Can't browse workgroup
I have joined my w2k client to workgroup_name, however I
cannot see my samba server at all. If I try and view it
via 'Computers Near Me' I get a error window stating:
'Workgroup_name is not accessible.'
'The account is not authorized to log in from this station.'
I get the same error if I try this as the w2k
administrator or user account.
If i try searching for

Read failure for 4. Error = connection reset by peer.
I am having a SERIOUS problem with our new 2.2.5 server. In fact I will
probably be forced to move to a Windows 2000 Server platform, as the samba
server is practically useless. Work on any files on the share cannot be
done without major risk of losing data. I get these two errors all day:
[2002/09/19 21:04:21, 0] lib/util_sock.c:read_data(436)

Printing issue
I'm trying to setup a print server for Samba clients to use. I have a HP
LaserJet 4 connected to /dev/lp0 and I'm using the LPRng spooling package.
Documents printed from Windows clients make it to the printer. However the
printed documents, mostly Excel/Word documents, have various abberations on
them. Graphical flaws, the text seems fine. In addition I seem to get 2

request: add TCP buffer options to rsync CLI?
We see absolutely dismal performance from Canberra to Perth via
Aarnet or Grangenet (gig connections across the country). With
standard rsync on a tuned tcp stack, we see about 700k/s. I started
playing with the --sockopts and have increased the performance to
1.4M/s which is better, but still way off the pace.
There are similar patches for ssh at

PCA with not non-negative definite covariance
Am I correct to understand from the previous discussions on this topic (a
few years back) that if I have a matrix with missing values my PCA options
seem dismal if:
(1) I don’t want to impute the missing values.
(2) I don’t want to completely remove cases with missing values.
(3) I do cov() with use=”pairwise.complete.obs”, as this produces
negative eigenvalues (which it has in

XP error code 1326 on share (but smbclient works)
Hi all,
I am new to this list and I am not an expert, so please be patient
with me :-)
I am trying to make a samba share working, between a samba standalone
server v.4.5.10 (Fedora 25) and a winXP SP3 client.
The share should be writable by an authenticated user.
The share used to work fine in the past, but upgrading to 4.5.10
(presumably from 4.4.14, on Fedora 24) broke something.

bad 1.6.3 striped write performance
Hi,
I''m seeing what can only be described as dismal striped write
performance from lustre 1.6.3 clients :-/
1.6.2 and 1.6.1 clients are fine. 1.6.4rc3 clients (from cvs a couple
of days ago) are also terrible.
the below shows that the OS (centos4.5/5) or fabric (gigE/IB) or lustre
version on the servers doesn''t matter - the problem is with the 1.6.3
and 1.6.4rc3 client kernels

Quantifying libvirt errors in launching the libguestfs appliance
As people may know, we frequently encounter errors caused by libvirt
when running the libguestfs appliance.
I wanted to find out exactly how frequently these happen and classify
the errors, so I ran the 'virt-df' tool overnight 1700 times. This
tool runs several parallel qemu:///session libvirt connections both
creating a short-lived appliance guest.
Note that I have added Cole's

I upped 1.0.4 of the script..
I added checks if no DC's are found, error message and exits script,
so no python errors anymore, if i did it right. ;-)
on both DC's do the following.

cat /etc/hosts
cat /etc/resolv.conf

Puzzle -- Logon/Login from Windows XP
I hope somebody can help me with this. I posed this question a week ago and
got several well-meaning answers that were not very helpful.
I have 10 Windows XP workstations and 100 users. Each of the 100 users has an
account on my Samba server (running Samba 3.03 on Mandrake Linux 10).
Each user has several shares on the Samba server which are unique to that
user. In other words, only THAT

Cisco 7940 Configuration
Hello all,
I recently purchased a Cisco 7940 IP phone to do some testing with (to
validate a migration to asterisk for our internal PBX needs). I
understand that I need to update the phone for it to support SIP, so I
configured the phone with an IP address and pointed it at my tftp server.
When I reboot the phone I am currently getting "TFTP File Not Found

Samba shares not appearing
Hi,
I'm currently fiddling with Samba, trying to make it work on CentOS 7.
Before that, I ran Samba successfully in a mixed environment with
Slackware64 14.1 on the server and Slackware/Windows Seven on the client
side.
I have three sandbox machines running CentOS 7. One has a minimal
install with only the samba and samba-client packages. Just to be on the
safe side for fiddling,

Xen vs VMWare comparison paper
One of my customers handed me a copy of this paper and asked why are we using xen if it is so slow...
http://morse.colorado.edu/~tlen5710/12s/VMware.pdf
which is a fairly damning report of performance under Xen in comparison to VMWare, citing worse than 50% overhead of Xen in comparison to physical.
Has anyone seen this paper before?

Dismal R performance of Athlon moble CPU?
I have been using a laptop computer of Pentium III 1.13 Ghz. I heard
that AMD's Athlon has excellent floating point capacity. So I bought a
Athlon 2200+ laptop yesterday. I expected that new Athlon 2200+ will be
twice as fast as the P III 1.13 GB. I ran a R simulation program and
the new computer is only 30% faster, in fact slightly slower than a
Celeron 1.50 GB laptop. I am very disappointed

posix acls and reiserfs
hi smbusers,
would like to ask some questions about posix acls and reiserfs.help and info is much appreciated.(to make it clear i am running mandriva 2007 free edition with samba 3.0.23d installed.)
1. is acl supported now on reiserfs filesystems by default?
2. do i have to recompile the kernel and apply the acl patch? (i currently have the 2.6.17 kernel)
3.which is best for samba?xfs?ext3? or
