Tricky Samba Issue
Hello. I've been a Samba user for quite a while, but I've had a bit of
trouble getting the newer winbind stuff to work as I require, and was
hoping someone might be able to help. I'm not subscribed to the list, so
if you would CC me or e-mail me privately, that would be greatly
appreciated.
Right now I'm using winbind to fit into our NT domain. I'd *like* to have

Compiling Samba with LDAP support - please help
I tried to compile various version (2.5, 2.6pre1, 3.0alpha17, HEAD,...)
of Samba with LDAP support ('configure --with-ldapsam'). During
configuration and 'make' process all seams fine, but after I installed
('make install') and ran, Samba complains something similar to "Unknown
option: ldap server" and some other similar error messages. It seams that

Réf. : Re: R?f. : system users and smbpasswd users
Hi :)
As I'd say in French "de rien !" (you're welcome :))
Yes, you can use PAM to redirect the system authentication calls to your
LDAP directory, but in reality samba
will continue to use two types of accounts : the "posixAccount"s (same as
/etc/passwd) and the "sambaSamAccount"s.
Everything will be stored in you LDAP directory, but Samba still needs two

Windows pre-requisites for login with winbind?
You did not look right it should be there.
https://packages.ubuntu.com/zesty/libpam-krb5
https://packages.ubuntu.com/artful/libpam-krb5
Check this folder to see if "winbind unix krb5" is there.
ls /usr/share/pam-configs
And run pam-auth-update --force to update the files.
! Note, krb5 has by default set : minium_uid=1000

Offline logon and NSS...
Hai Marco,
But a quick peek at this tells me it should be possible
and you need these packages for a "full offline setup" or, a combination of these.
These packages need to be installed and all need to be configured:
libnss-ldapd libpam-ldapd nscd libpam-ccreds libpam-mklocaluser libnss-winbind libpam-winbind
I suggest first look at :

Samba upgrade issue . . .
Ok Steve,
Now its time to edit the status file of the packages.
make a backup of : /var/lib/dpkg/status
open it with an editor.
search for "Package samba" , you probly see" installed ok not-configured.
and change status to : Status: install ok installed
after the change run : apt-get -f install
that should do the trick.

Classic upgrade and forced password change...
Yes, a know thing, but is he using jessie or stretch.
The upgrade from samba 4.2.x to 4.4.5 or up.
Few options.
1) check if /etc/nsswitch.conf contains :
,,, : compat winbind
And not : winbid compat
That bug is yesterday reported in debian.
apt-get remove samba winbind samba-*
When done
apt-get install samba winbind
This keeps all data.
Just dont purge.
Let me know if it worked for

dns-rtd-dc2
dns-rtd-dc1
krbtgt

getent passwd
output = only linux users
?
you need to set nis (rfc2307) (uid/gid) on the users and groups in the AD, then when done, this works
