Samba not seeing any interfaces
I've built samba for an embedded mips platform. Since this is an embedded platform, it's possible that some critical file that samba needs is missing but stracing the daemons doesn't reveal anything strange. It's running 2.4.34 kernel. Samba is failing to find any interfaces. [2000/01/02 10:55:01, 3] nmbd/nmbd.c:main(759) Opening sockets 137 [2000/01/02 10:55:01, 10]

netbios uses incorrect broadcast value and termintaes
Hi All, I am using samba Version 3.5.4 on AIX 6.1. The installation is through pware binary ( pware53.samba.rte 3.5.4.0). There seems to be a strange issue with NetBios where it terminates with the following error logged just after starting. The diagnosis fails in step 4 of Samba Diagnosis test ("nmblookup -B BIGSERVER __SAMBA_") because no netbios (nmbd) is running. snippet from

Weird Samba issues
I manage a Samba server that has been working nicely for a couple of months (after it replace the old Samba server which worked happily for years). We use LDAP for accounts, but don't use domain logons or anything fancy. All users have their home dir on Samba mapped to drive 'M:'. In their home, there are symbolic links to various directories they're entitled to access. Links

nmbd in FreeBSD jail
Hello! I'm trying to set up samba in FreeBSD jail. smbd works great, but nmbd says something like this: [2003/03/25 16:58:33, 0] nmbd/nmbd.c:main(794) Netbios nameserver version 2.2.7a started. nmbd over ppp
hello everyone. I don't have a network, but I'm trying to get my friend to dialin and use my shares that I have provided via smb. Now I have a big prob with nmbd and ppp. Under Interfaces I can specify ppp* 192.168.0.2 , which is the ip that the dialin user is assigned and yet still nmbd shuts down showing an error that no interfaces were found. # route -n Kernel IP routing

which on array
Good morning ! Today I found a strange, for my poor knowledge of R, behaviour of 'which' on a matrix: HAL9000> str(cluster.matrix) num [1:227, 1:6300] 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 ... HAL9000> class(cluster.matrix) [1] "matrix" HAL9000> ase <- cluster.matrix[1:5,1:5] HAL9000> ase [,1] [,2] [,3] [,4] [,5] [1,] 2 2 2 0 -2 [2,] 2 2 2 0 -2 [3,]

Probably a bug in samba audit
Hi. I got this email-address from BUGS.txt file of the samba distribution. I read it carefully. I got configured and working samba, I work with samba above one year. I still have a problem, and, according to the samba log output, I think it's probably a bug. When I try to use the shares with audit support, I have my Far disconnected and telling me that something is wrong. I have that

Problem with network browsing
SMBv1 (the anonymous thing behind network neighborhood) because of the massive security problems it caused was decprecated. Microsoft came up with network neighborhood and they've shut it down due to their bad implementation. Samba, likewise, doesn't support SMBv1 by default. Problem with network browsing
If you have 1 member server, you could enabe nmbd in that server. Or install : llmnrd on linux and/or avahi-deamon if you dont have a member. And make sure you can use "proxy dns" as in, The primary DNS domain on linux should match (see in windows) CMD: ipconfig /all The : - primay dns suffix - DNS Suffix search order Then you are able to use \\hostname or \\hostname.FQ.DN.TLD

Problem with network browsing
A reasonable alternative is to run Christgau's excellent Web Service Discovery host daemon (wsdd) on the samba server and make sure the Function Discovery Provider Host and Function Discovery Resource Publication services are running on the Windows 10 machines. Get wsdd from here: https://github.com/christgau/wsdd.git You can then stop and disable the nmbd on the samba machines as it's

NMBD Not Starting
I moved an entire RH 6.2 server from one CPU to a new one using a tape backup/restore. Everything from the old server is working on the new server, but when SysV starts up smb, the nmbd daemon (2.0.6) exits with an error: create_subnets: No local interfaces! eth0 has already started according to the logs and console. Any ideas? Thanks. ______________________ Greg Kelley, IT Director SSA, EAA,

WINS resolution not working on WINS Server
Hi Samba Users, I'm using a typical Samba/LDAP Solution. My PDC is running samba 3.0.14a on RHEL4. This is also my acting WINS server. WINS resolution appears to be working fine for all other PC's on the network. It works for my BDC, and Domain member servers and the various windows clients on the network. However WINS does not appear to work on the PDC itself. On the pdc i have the

Hi Samba users, I'm using a typical Samba 3.0.14a PDC/Ldap setup. The pdc is also the WINS server. The wins server is working perfectly with one exception. The server cannot query itself. I searched through log.nmbd and this is what i found : > [2005/05/26 17:06:55, 4] > nmbd/nmbd_workgroupdb.c:find_workgroup_on_subnet(173) > find_name_on_subnet: on subnet 192.0.2.14 - name

Can't see shares on a server member
Hi team, I'm dealing with AS/U as a member server on a Samba 3.0.20 PDC. Jonction seems ok, and from the member server I can see PDC's shares (with net view) and authenticate user (with net logon user passwd /domain:domainname). On the other side, I fell into timeout when running smbclient -L member from the PDC. Here is a log.nmbd loglevel 10 from PDC as there is no other log

Same configs, different results
I am configuring two identical PDCs so that, if one goes down, the other can start to serve logins. The first PDC, a Debian 3.0 with Samba 2.999+3.0cvs20020723-1, works fine. The second PDC, that I bring up after killing manually smbd and nmbd on the first one, is a Red Hat 7.3 with Samba compiled from the same sources (but with gcc2.96 instead of 2.95) and the same smb.conf, except for the

Need help configuring Samba3/LDAP PDC
Hello all, I'm following along in chapter 6 of John Terpstra's "Samba 3 By Example" and I've got everything working great up until the point where I join the machine to the new domain (step 17 on page 155). The command *net rpc join -U Administrator* fails with the errors below. palpatine:/var/lib/samba/sbin # net -d 4 rpc join -U Administrator [2004/06/09 15:13:35, 3]
