Can't join windows XP to samba 2.2.3a
1) Have you applied the registry patch to the XP machine?
2) Check samba.org as i'm not sure which version first started supporting
XP, 2.2.3a may be borderline.

A good day to you all. i dont seemt to be having any luck joining Windows XP machines into my domain. This i find quite peculiar, since i have had no problems with win98, winnt, or win2k machines.
The Windows XP machine is able to see the domain, and reports that it has joined the domain after i enter the domain admin account and password. But after the reboot, i can't seem to log on

problems writing to profile share when updating from samba 2.2.3a to 2.2.5
Hi,
we updated our samba 2.2.3a to 2.2.5 because of several printing problems.
Now our Clients (win 2k & xp) can't write to their profiles share (the
windows error-message was: "this file is used by another process", but
there weren't any other processes from this user). In the samba logfile we
can't see any write-attempt from the client.

How do I go about this
hello all.
I have a dual boot laptop running XP and RH3. I tried
to install wine but because my XP is on NTFS I could
not link to that partition.
So, I have burned all my personal files to CD and am
wondering what to do next:
1) I suppose I could install another windows operating
system like 98. Drawback is that when I do use
Windows, XP tends to handle the plug and play features
better (like

Samba as a PDC for W2K Network
Hi all. I hope someone here can help me with a bit of trouble I seem to be
having with Samba and Windows 2000. Here's the deal:
We are attempting to setup a Red Hat 7.3 machine (SYMPHONY2) running Samba
2.2.3a to act as a File Server and PDC for a number of Windows 2000
workstations. I have followed the instructions from
http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection.html but

Printing with CUPS
I've just been trying to get my Samba 3.0.0-2 build to work with CUPS.
The rpm I downloaded from the Samba site was not compiled with CUPS library
support. Which is why I am assuming that having added printing = cups in my
conf file things are not working.
If I use the source rpm can I force the build to include CUPS library
support ?
Or do I have to build from scratch?
thanks

Winbind Question...
Hullo All,
Just a simple question...
I planning have an HPUX Server with SaMBa 2.2.3a and Winbind running to
allow WinNT users to login in the server. As far as I know, when WinNT is
down, Winbind doesn't authenticate the users. OK, is there any chance to
Winbind store users in a cache, or something like that?
Thanks

printer admin problems with 2.2.4
We upgraded from 2.2.3a to 2.2.4 on a SuSE 7.2 server. We compiled Samba just
default. The new version seems to work ok with the exception of printer administration.
Printer admins are not able to see the properties of the printers (right click on printer
gives on error). Our workstations are W2k SP2. But users that are not printer admin
are able to see the properties of a printer, but they

WINS Question?
I have setup my Samba server as a WINS server using the wins support = yes
parameter.
My remote network can see the Samba server at our head office fine.
I have also setup the WINS setting on my PC (W2K Pro box) to point to the IP
address of my Samba server.
When I do a nmblookup -R -U <IP address of WINS server> <name of my PC> on
my Samba server I get this reponse;

Hi All,
very new to the linux thing.
I have tried our local linux list but no luck.
I have setup Samba on the box which is running Rh7.3 with Samba 2.2.3a-6 (server/common & client)
I got a tut from IBMs site on how to setup a pdc with samba and redhat.
I followed the tut step for step but still when I want to login on wind98 onto the box I get a message
that the pdc is not found.

file permissions on home directories and admin user copying files to it
We want to copy files with the group in the admin list of the [homes]
share. The problem is that the copied files then are owned by root.
I know this is normal unix behavior. However we want the copied files to
be owned by the user of the homeshare.
I read the samba howto section "Users Cannot Write to a Public Share".
Although I want to set the owner on the home shares and not on a

MS Access and Samba
Hi,
we still have some trouble running a MS Access-database on Samba. We now
tried it with v.2.2.6 on RH 7.3 but still we either get no acces on the
database simultanously or we run in problems with updating the database.
The problem is that we make some changes on one of the clients but the
changes are not visible to the other clients until they shut down the
database and reopen it. We

Hello!
A good day to you all. i'm trying to set up
samba(2.2.3a, right out of the rh7.3 cds) as a PDC.
i've already read through the Samba-howto collection,
and am confident that i've put in all the necessary
samba options.
/etc/samba/smb.conf:
[global]
netbios name = pdc1
workgroup = testing
security = user
domain logon = yes
domain master = yes
local master = yes

Samba 2.2.8a file permissions not working
We have upgraded from Samba 2.2.7a to 2.2.8a. We have samba running
our our two UNIX file servers, one is Solaris 8 and the other RedHat
Linux 7.3. Samba was compiled as follows:
configure --prefix=/opt/samba --with-acl-support --with-quotas
Right now it doesn't looks like changing file/folder permissions are
working from W2K. When we right click on a file/folder and go to the

Roaming profiles
I want to setup a linux box with samba as a file and print server for a
LAN of 20 NT 4.0 SP3 workstations. I want the home direcotories to be on
the server the clients to have roaming profiles.
For this, do I have to make the linux box a domain controller? I want to
avoid it if I can, because the domain control code in not on the
production releases. I don't want to setup an NT server either.

Samba in a Win2000 / NT Enterprise
Hello,
I am currently integrating 20 workstations and 5 Servers (all Dell Products)
running Red Hat 7.2 (2.4.7-10) into a Windows 2000 / NT Enterprise network
of about 2,000 users.
I have been using a Samba server (version 2.2.1) with "security=domain" so
that any user with a W2K domain logon can access the Samba file server.
However, I want to move into full integration and set up all

RH9, Samba 2.2.8a and printing with CUPS
Hi there
I just installed the above mentioned system and try to print from a W2k box to the Samba box but nothing happens. There's no problem in printing from the RH box or via Webmin but when I try to print from the W2k box nothing happens. I don't get an error or anything.
I installed the printer by the help of the add printer tool in RH, and simply go to the Printer--->Add
