another printing question
I have got the printing working with CUPS finally on all of my printer.
Took a while but they are printing with no errors. What they are not doing
is feeding back the print status, and not all of them are consistent. I
have a HP2000C that gives me a failed to open retrying error in the W2k
printers window. I have a minolta d350 that always comes back blank, even
though there are maybe 50 jobs

samba not printing queue
Hi folks-
I'm having a problem with Samba printing from Windows to Solaris printers,
running samba 2.2.8a. At the moment, when windows jobs sent to samba,
samba is copying them to /var/spool/samba, but not starting printing.
This worked fine until yesterday, and nothing in Samba has been touched
(at least, not to my knowledge). We use SystemV printing, which works on
the unix side-I can go

RE: samba with redhat and act
Yes I get that. I am able to get it to work properly by giving complete
world access to the file and folders, which means basically it has to be on
a share by itself, or one that has complete rwxrwxrwx. I would of course
prefer to have only group access but that doesn't work for this act
database. I also turned off op locks. Don't know if that will cause any
problems. but it made the

FW: act database problem
I found out a few things. The problem is when act closes the locks are not
being cleared. I can make it work by creating an additional share just for
the database that has no locking at all, but I think I am risking data
corruption. I don't need access to the database simultaneously so if anyone
knows how to force the locks to be cleared when I exit act so the next
person can get it that

extra user logs
I am running 225 succesfully with RH7.3 (this is a different machine than
the print server of earlier messages). This machine is set up to file serve
4 employees only. There is one group and 5 users. I am getting a log entry
on this server for every user in the building, not just the ones that are
actually logging onto an using this server. Attached is a small portion of

printer status w2K / cups
Version info Samba 2.2.5 Cups 1.1.15
I have cups running and am printing out to the minolta 350 fine(network)
from the w2k boxes. The (hopefully last) problem is on my windows boxes no
print status comes back in the printer window. I do not see a list of print
jobs anywhere or what the job status is. This is the first time I have
really tried to get printing to work with samba. All my file

Vista password being rejected on share security mode
I'm working on trying to get Samba 3.0.23c to work with Vista and I've run into a snag. If a share is set up for security = share, and protected with a password, when I try to mount the share using Start->Run->\\server\share, the password is rejected by Samba for about the first 10 seconds, but after that, it lets me in. I've tried all the common suggestions such as changing

Chris,
I did this very thing although I can't tell you how because it just worked
right without my having to do anything. I am not having the server
automatically download the drivers so maybe that has something to do with
it. I keep my drivers on s share and then have to go pick them when I
install a printer. All of my print queues from cups update my windows boxes
about every 3 seconds.

security = server problem
I am using Samba 2.0.9 on S1 SuSE box and Samba 2.2.5 on S2 Suse box. S1
is acting as PDC for 98, NT clients.
(logon script, shares from S1, and S2). Users's passwords are stored on
S1, S2 uses security = server and
password server = S1 options in smb.conf.
I have upgraded both to Samba 2.2.8, but the logon script wants to
connect to share from S2, it is
prompted for a password.

more printing + general domain advice
I still have not figured out how to get the printer status (list of jobs
etc..) to show up in the w2k printer windows. most printing is working well
with this exception, I print from an email from outlook and the bold H
gets left out. Different emails, different fonts, but always the capital H.
Here is the system.

print job name
Is there a way foe me to get the print job name to be something other than
"remote downlevel job"? All my jobs are now printing flawless except for
this. I would like to be able to get a file name or program at least.
Thanks

A strange file-ownership problem
The scenario:
I have two Samba servers on my network. One, running v3.0.37, is on my
main server, a Solaris 10 x86 box. The other, just updated from 3.0.37
to 3.4.5 in the hope of solving this problem, is on my workstation, a
Gentoo Linux box. The Linux Samba server shares only [homes]. The
Solaris Samba server shares [homes] and four other shares. Unix UIDs

Printing to Samba printer causes application to abort
I am using Slackware 10.2 (kernel 2.4.29) and Samba 3.0.21c for my print
server. The client workstations are WinNT4. I have two printers on the
linux server..an HP DeskJet 600 and an Okidata B4250. I can install and
print to the HP from any of the workstations. I can install the Okidata
just fine, but when I try to print from Word, Excell, or any application Dr.

Printing multiple copies
Hello! I'm having a problem with my SAMBA setup in that it cannot print
multiple copies from any clients. I think I could solve this if there is
anyway to specify a variable on the "print command =" line that
corresponds to the number of copies. That way I could just use "print
command = lpr -r -P'%p' -#%n %s" (where %n is the number of copies.

lprng printing fails to connect to cups
Hi. I have a debian wheezy with samba 3.6.6-6. Before
updating to wheezy I had samba configured with LPRNG
printing.
Now I can't use the printers, it looks like samba is
trying to connect to cups even it is configured with
another printing system.
This is the error spotted when I try to install the
printer in a Windows 7 PC. Windows XP works fine.
