oplocks and samba 2.2.7
About two months ago our sysadmin upgraded to samba 2.2.7 and we have not had any oplock problems since. A heartfelt thanks from the University of Wisconsin in Madison to the Samba team for all their hard work. If our hundreds of users understood what was going on behind the scenes, they'd be thanking you too. --- Sam Barasch Computer Systems Support Department of Biostatistics

Windows 2000 and Samba
I have a Samba server running on an AIX 4.4.3 RS6000 that has been serving up files without problem. Recently, a pair of machines, both Windows 2000 Pro, haven't been able to gain access to any of the Samba resources on the AIX server though they were both able to previously. Other WinNT and Win2k machines can get to these shared resources fine, just not these two. I haven't found anything

Disconnected Drives Reconnecting but red cross remains on share problem with clipart
When I last posted the email below the reconnect issue did not seem to be causing any problems, we have subsequently had some users reporting that they cannot open clipart. This only seems to happen when the red cross is displayed, if users perform a:- ? NET USE H: /D ? which removes the drive then they preform a:- ? NET USE H: \\SAMBASERVER\HOME <<file://\ SAMBASERVER\HOME>> ? The

The trashcan is a "security blanket" feature that Windows/MacOS/OS2/BeOS users now take for granted. Convincing them that this is now impossible because we've

- Domain Users and Windows 2000... Help
Can someone please tell me if it is possible to add a group on a linux PDC running Samba 2.2.4 to a windows 2000 clients local "Power Users Group" or any of the local windows 2k groups. I want certain people to be in the Power Users Group on 2K, but I don't want to have to add each domain user individually to that local win2k group, I want to add a domain group to the win2k group.

Mapped drives gets disconnected ?
Hi! I'm running a RedHat 7.2 server with Samba 2.2.3a - but recently I have a problem that mapped drives on Windows 2000 workstations get disconnected and have problems reconnecting (error message is something like "local device name already in use" when I try to browse the drive in Windows Explorer). Any idea what causes this problem ? Regards, /Brian

Red crosses on Mapped drives
I am getting red crosses on the mapped drives of some win2k pro machines connecting to a samba pdc. I don't have them logging into the domain and the drives are disconnecting (it happens on win2k server too). There is a parameter for win2k server to autodisconnect the drive after 15 minutes which can be changed with: net config server /autodisconnect:TIME and there is a registry key in
