Converting from NT DC to Samba DC?
Hi all,
I am in the process of setting up a test network to test samba as a DC
with the acct information stored in LDAP (2.2.3a). The ultimate goal is to
replace the nt4 (P,B)DC we have on the network now with a samba DC. I have read about the
uid gid scheme of uid *2+1000 = rid but I am a little confused. If I use
pwdump to dump the existing sam database I get numbers like 1036 for the

a possible bug in 1.1.6
Hello Speex,
I think I've noticed a bug in version 1.1.6.
In the source file "speexdec.c", lines 558 to 560 say
wav_format = strlen(outFile)>=4 && (
strcmp(outFile+strlen(outFile)-4,".wav")==0
|| strcmp(inFile+strlen(inFile)-4,".WAV")==0);

uidNumber=RID allowed or not recommended?
Hi,
the samba documentation concerning the migration of a Samba NT4 domain
to AD
(https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Migrating_a_Samba_NT4_Domain_to_Samba_AD_(Classic_Upgrade))
mentions in section "Important Notes":
It used to be thought that using Windows RIDs for Unix IDs was
acceptable, time has proven otherwise.
But unfortunately no reasoning is given. I am wondering why this is not

RID Allocation Pool
Hello,
Are RID's allocated in a manner specific to Samba? I'm still good
with my RID pool but it got me thinking about this. I know how RID's are
allocated with respect to a Windows domain, but didn't want to overlook
how Samba may allocate them. Thanks.

Forcing RIDs to desired value
I found that after moving my samba server to different hardware (and
diferent Linux installation), domain logons cannot find their Windows
profiles and created new ones. This is caused by the different RID of
the users. It seems these are calculated as 2*UID + 1000. And my UID's
on new server do not match those on the old one. How to force SAMBA to
provide different RIDs for the users? I do

Excessive allocations from RID master
I have a script that is adding about 16,000 users to my domain.
While monitoring the script, I noticed that as soon as a user is added, 500 additional RID's are allocated from the RID Master
Please see below the output of the "CN=RID Manager$,CN=System" and "CN=RID Set,CN=DC1,OU=Domain Controllers" containers between each user-add
As you can see, in "CN=RID

UID Matching
Good afternoon...
Currently my Unix and Windows UID's don't match, nowhere close to it. I use
AD for the Windows side of the house from a Win2K8 Server and I still use
NIS for the Unix/Linux side of the house. I don't do single sign-on yet, so
everyone in the building has a Windows account and a Unix account with two
different UID's, but the same username.
Now, I'm at a

Is there more documentation for smbgroupedit than the manpage ?
I'm trying to get the domain admins group to work. Steps i taken so far
1. create a unix group domadm
2. add my admin users to the domadm group
3. map the Domain Admins Group to the domadm group
4. make the domain admins group a domain group (smbgroupedit reported it as
unknown)

Samba SID/RID, UID/GID Best Practices?
I have a new Samba 3 domain backed by LDAP. I am using Fedora-DS for
LDAP component, so I have relied on a blend of tools to get up and
running including Fedora-DS console and phpLDAPAdmin and (momentarily!)
sambaldap-tools. I am generally following the great IDEALX How-To but
having to adapt it somewhat.
Standards for well-know Samba groups like "Domain Admins" were easy to

Domain Admins
Hello All!
I'm trying to troubleshoot a domain admin problem and I'm stuck at a log
error msg. The log says the following:
get_domain_user_groups: primary gid of user [root] is not a Domain
group !
get_domain_user_groups: You should fix it, NT doesn't like that
My goal is so that anyone in the "Domain Admins" group (by default) have

Groups not mapping correctly.
Hello,
At one time I installed an alpha of samba-3.0 and it had a smbgroupedit
command that mapped unix and windows groups via webmin. This seems to
be missing in beta3, has it been depreciated?
Also I can't seem to get the group map to take effect unless the unix
group is the users primary group. Either that or I don't understand
something.
I do not have winbindd running or any idmap

replace() error: new columns would leave holes after existing columns
Hello, I have a problem with using replace() to convert a vector of dates
from yyyy-mm-dd to julian date.
For example, I type

and I receive an error:

username map with NT groups
I need to map all of my NT id's to unix usernames. It looks like you can
use NIS groups in the username map file. Why can't you put an NT group in
there? Shouldn't I be able to map an entire NT group to a single unix id?

Quick questions about uid, gid, uidNumber, gidNumber
Hi.
I'm trying to fix a mistake I made: I installed an AD-DC, with the
functions of a file server.
To solve this problem, I installed a new Samba in a Ubuntu box and
configured it as defined in
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setting_up_Samba_as_a_Domain_Member. This
would work as a file server. However, I now understand (a little more) the
confusion among all these attributes like uid,

Help with Rmpi install
Hello R-help!
I am a systems administrator for the University of Southern California. I take care of it's general-purpose research cluster, and have recently been asked to provide access to a parallelized R platform. I do not have any previous experience using R, and have only ever had to do anything more then 'yum -y install R'.
We have a myrinet MPI network, and use mpich1 as our

Group listings in samba
Hi,
I've posted this question before, but i'm still scratching my head.
I've got a samba 3 cvs server with an ldap backend. When I do a search for users in a group either by net group <group> /domain or in user manager it returns access denied
When I look at the logs on the server samba is searching for (uid=<group>(objectclass=sambaAccount)).
The samba schema does not
