RE: using samba over AT@T broadband (Barry deFreese)
AT&T Broadband blocks ports 137,138, and 139. They want to protect those
Windows users that install File and Print Sharing from viruses and
attacks.

RH 7.3 + Samba DC
Hi All,
very new to the linux thing.
I have tried our local linux list but no luck.
I have setup Samba on the box which is running Rh7.3 with Samba 2.2.3a-6 (server/common & client)
I got a tut from IBMs site on how to setup a pdc with samba and redhat.
I followed the tut step for step but still when I want to login on wind98 onto the box I get a message
that the pdc is not found.

Exclude again
Hi,
I can't get the exclude in my Rsync statements to work quite right.
I have:
rsync -avz --delete-after --exclude-from=/cygdrive/d/exclude.job 10.1.1.11::ddrive /cygdrive/d/backup
The exclude file contains:
- /bin
- /endofdaybin
I want the directories above to be excluded from the job completely, however, they still seem to be copied.
Do I have a problem with either the exclude or

Extreme samba newbie needs help
Hi,
I am having some troubles setting samba up nicely on my Slackware 7.1
machine. It is currently just a web/ftp server mainly for my personal use
at home. I downloaded the tarball samba-2.0.7 and did everything to install
it "properly." I edited services to include:
netbios-ns 137/tcp # NETBIOS Name Service
netbios-ns 137/udp

redirector timeout ?
I am running samba 1.9.18p3 on Solaris 2.5.1
The clients are NT 4.0 sp3
Everything was running smoothly, and then I applied the solaris "y2k" patches.
Now, most accesses to samba will hang for a minute or 2, before completing. In
the event log I see messages like:
The redirector has times out a request to <server name>
This did not used to happen. This is very puzzling,

Text corruption in DAoC Labyrinth - no error?
I'm having a hard time figuring out if this is reported somewhere else. In the current version of Wine, Dark Age of Camelot - Labyrinth client, a scroll with a different color of tect seems to frequently trigger the chat windows corrupting graphically to the point of becoming unusable. The inventory screen, and the system messages that splash in midscreen are also vulnerable to corruption. In

"The Ogg Vorbis Musical Abyss"
Just found this one:
http://camelot.kingarthur.com/phoco/ogg_vorbis/info.html
It seems to have music dedicated to vorbis (by the names, don't have
player here) and a link to an interview with Monty ("more information
on the Ogg Vorbis format") and the artists seem very excited about it.
The browser says the pages are quite old (Jul./Sep. 2001) but I don't

Extreme Samba Newbie needs more help
Tom Syroid was kind enough to answer my first question. I had some really
weird errors and he told me to uninstall the samba that I had compiled on my
own and reinstall the samba.tgz that came with slackware 7.1 which is what I
am running. I did so, and the weird errors no longer occur. Instead when I
try:
root@vader82:/# smbclient -L localhost
added interface ip=192.168.0.1

Dark age of Camelot expansion install problem.
I looked over the wine app site and DAOC seems to run pretty good, which is great because I love the game and I recently switched over to Linux.
The normal game installs just fine, however, when I attempt to install the expansions I get the message that I am not installing to a daoc directory. I've tried installing in the "C Drive" and also threw the .wine directory. But nothing

Question on Accessing Samba Shares from a Windows XP Pro box...
Howdy.
I created a Linux File Server (Redhat 7.3, w/ Samba 2.2.3) and some file shares for my documents. I can ping the server from my Windows XP pro box and vice versa, I know Samba is running and have the "encrypted passwords" option in Samba turned on.
On the XP machine, I can see the linux file server, but cannot access any of the shares. It tells me I don't have permission (or

logging beg - again
Hello,
[Old problem; if it was fixed, I cannot see it (checked
Changelog, wiki, source, as much as my grepping counts). Any help
appreciated.]
I have been begging since 2003 to be able to trash qpopper and
use dovecot, but statistical logging of dovecot has been pretty much
absent. Qpopper does this:

rgdal under windows?
Hi,
Has anyone had any joy getting the rgdal package to compile under windows?
I've been trying with MinGW using Duncan Murdoch's Rtools but to no avail.
After unpacking the tarball I put it here:
D:\rw1091\src\library\rgdal>ls
DESCRIPTION R configure inst man
INDEX cleanup configure.in install.R src
And then tried:

Upgrading from 2.2.1a to 2.2.5 on RH 7.2
Hey Everyone,
I am trying to upgrade to 2.2.5 from 2.2.1a and am having a
problem. When trying to install the samba-common rpm it says that I need
the file libc.so.6. I have this in 3 places:
/var/ftp/lib/libc.so.6
/lib/i686/libc.so.6
/lib/libc.so.6
Do I need to change the paths for this? Thanks for your help.
