Samba Printing with CUPS
Hi,
I'm a bit new to the whole Samba printing thing and need some help. I am
running Caldera OpenLinux with Samba 2.2.4 and CUPS 1.1.10. I have
successfully managed to upload print drivers to the Samba server from a
Windows NT client. I have then managed to add the printers to several
windows clients without downloading drivers to them. This appeared to work
fine, with excellent

Printing to Samba/Cups from Windows kills windows app lication.
Hi,
I have tried using a raw print queue with no drivers and printed from the
windows end. Still Word or other app being printed from dies and no print
request appears in the servers logs.
Any more ideas?
Cheers,
Mark.

Printing to Samba/Cups from Windows kills windows application.
Hi People,
I have just built a Samba 3.0.2 server using Suse Standard Server 8 and Cups
for printing. Setting up printers and printing works fine for all of the
more modern printers, but older HP Laserjet 5N / 4 printers do not. When
trying to print to them from Win 2k/XP the windows app that we're printing
from just dies, or gives a "do you want to send error report to

Win2K Printer Driver Problems - Hi Jerry!!
Nope, close but no cigar.
With 2.2.6Pre2 Word started to behave itself but Outlook acts as though
landscape is a foreign concept(i.e everything prints portrait regardless of
page setup). Spoolsv also crashes on the Win2K workstations requiring a
manual restart of the spooler service. We will downgrade to 2.2.5 and try

post-delivery virus scan
I have discovered that many times the virus definitions I use for scanning messages (ClamAV, with the unofficial signatures http://sanesecurity.com/usage/linux-scripts/) are updated some time after my server has received an infected email. It seems the virus creators are trying to race the virus definition creators to see who can deliver first; more than half of the infected messages are found

Samba HA on two nodes
Hi All,
Is anybody succeed to run a configuration on a two node clusters with Samba installed on each machine?
I compiled two versions on different directories (/usr/local/samba1 and samba2).
At this point, I can run 2 samba's on one node in case of failure but problems are on Active Directory
authentication for the Fallback node.
Any suggestion!
I'm running AIX 5.2 with HACMP and

FTS solr info
Are there updated instructions on setting up FTS with solr? I?m in the midst of upgrading my site and the links don?t appear to work or be applicable to current versions of solr. I grabbed 6.3.0 from apache and the instructions are no longer working, e.g., there?s no `solr/conf/schema.xml` file to replace; the `start.jar` has moved, etc.
Just wondering if there?s somewhere else I should look, or

GetPrinter Level 2 does not get devmode
Hi all,
I have uploaded the printer drivers succesfully on RedHat Linux/ Samba
2.2.4 server. I can download and print without any problems. But when I do
Windows API call GetPrinter with PRINTER_INFO_2, the devmode in
printer_info is always null. My code looks like
HANDLE hPrinter=NULL;
PRINTER_DEFAULTS pDefaults;
pDefaults.DesiredAccess = PRINTER_ACCESS_USE;

Using working devmode from windows clients on samba server?
Samba 2.2.7a (built from samba RPM's) with LPRng print subsystem.
I've been having troubles with some print drivers which fail to work
properly when uploaded to the samba server whether devmode gets left as
null or a default devmode is used. Some drivers do not leave you in a
position where you can "tickle" the driver to generate a devmode with
page orientation etc before

Copying printer drivers across many servers
List,
I am deploying a number of Samba servers across a WAN. To date I have
manually uploaded printer drivers from an XP client to the Samba
server. But it's slow, and I systematically upload the same drivers
over and over again.
I'm not quite sure of the recipe, but I'm sure there must be a way of
replicating all the drivers, from a central point, out to the remote
servers. Copying

Restricting DC Roles?
I have a small AD forest of two Windows 2008 R2 domain controllers. I would
like to add a Samba 4 DC to this forest. After running into some problems
with group policies, I realized that Samba 4 does not currently implement
file replication. I would like to have the Samba 4 domain controller
replicate user/computer schema with the Windows machines, but I would like

time for a poll -- does anyone use the testprns tool ?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Mostly for print server admins:
I am considering marking testprns as deprecated (or just
remove it). It doesn't seem to be that useful anymore. Does
anyone use it on a regular basis and would therefore be distraught
if it were gone in a future 3.0.x release ?
cheers, jerry

Print Properties will not open on a Samba shared printer
I finally got my drivers to upload to the print$ share by using the add_print_package.pl script form imprints, and I was able to attach the driver to the printer created with SWAT (the rpc command: addprinter does not work) by using the rpc command: setdriver. So at this point whenever I connect a client to the machine it no longer asks about trying to find a driver. However when I go to open the

Printing in Wine
I'm using RH 7.1 with 20011108. Wine is running well with the few
simple apps that I use with it. The only problem that I'm having is
with printing. I've followed the somewhat conflicting instructions that
I've found around the web to use the internal PS driver and at least
gotten that much to show up in the dialog box on WinSpice3. However,
when I attempt to print I get

Win2k explorer.exe dies when dealing with printers
Hi there.
I've been some days dealing with printing problems in Win2k clients, having
a Samba 2.2.5 parched with "parse_sec.patch" as a printer server.
When I try to print anything, explorer.exe dies. Sometimes dies spoolsv.exe,
or sometimes all the system locks (it may be because explorer do not restart).
It happens to all my Win2k clients with Service Pack 2, and only when using

Samba and Cups interaction
While trying to solve my printer problem, I have come up with another question
that Google is not helping me with. What happens to a print job after Samba
submits it to Cups? Is it 'finished' even though Cups is still printing it?
Is that why my users aren't seeing their print jobs, because Cups has already
snatched them and Samba assumes they are done? I would much rather if

WinXP print problem
Hello,
I am using samba to acces a printer on my Linux server from Windows XP
Home SP2 clients.
It was working very well until yesterday evening. Since yesterday, I can
print from the server (with cups) but I can't print from the Windows
clients.
And all the shared folders are still OK. There is only printing from
Windows clients which doesn't work.
We changed nothing on the server
