Making TIMEOUT work?
I have problems getting the TIMEOUT value work the same way LILO/GRUB does it.. ie it should wait until the timeout and then use the default value. However, it goes straight for the default value without waiting a single second (and a TIMEOUT value of 500 should mean 50 seconds, as it counts in 1/10th of a second, right?) "Partition Check:" ?
As soon as I use a kernel with ext3 support boot up freezes with: "Partition Check: /dev/bus/etc/with/ide/bus" I am trying to make doublely sure that it is ext3 causing the problem by removing the journals I added to the original ext2 filesystems using "tune2fs -j /dev/hda1" ( / & /usr are ext3 while hda2 is swap by the way) Unfortunately I'm having trouble find a

rsync copying over existing files
Hi again all.. When using rsync 3.0 to sync files between 2 local directories, it works as i expect it, but when the destination folder is a mounted smb share, it always copies over the files even though they already exist on the destination. Any ideas on why this is happening? even using the same options, but with a different destination path. I have tried using -vvv, but it doesn't make

ext4?
Listee's... I have a 5.5 box and I have formatted a partition as ext4 however I can't mount it, the mount command is telling me its an unknown file system type. fsck tells me the partition is a clean ext4 partition but I can't mount it. Some reasearch has lead me to believe the problem is that ext4 isn't enabled in the kernel by default in 5.5 (this was originally a 5.2 box that

Bug? Authentication failure with multiple logins from same client IP addy
We have a client machine (Windows 2000) that runs an application which spawns separate processes with each authenticate separately to the SAMBA server (3.0.13) When several of these processes run at the same time, SOME of the authentications fail with NT_STATUS_WRONG_PASSWORD written to the log.smbd file (error level 2)...I've attached a snippet of the log file to the end of this message All

Cannot get CentOS to install
I used google but did not come up with anything current to solve my problem. I have not tried any other search engines yet. There is not a search for the CentOS list so I am creating a new post. I have tested the CentOS 5.2 and RHEL 5.3 CD's and they passed. I had to use linux mediacheck ide=nodma to get them to pass. The newest releases seem to most times fail with just linux mediacheck. I

ext3 instability in RH8.0?
We've been noticing some problems with ext3 and, in our case, postfix, that appear to come to light under heavy disk i/o loading. A previous thread found here (http://www.redhat.com/mailing-lists/ext3-users/msg04189.html) documents an identical set of symptons (and similar setup), but with RH 7.2 The specifics are this: 1. Stock install of RH8.0 with postfix. 2. Linux mx 2.4.18-14 #1

Predict function for 'newdata' of different dimension in svm
I am using the "predict" function on a support vector machine (svm) object, and I don't understand why I can't predict on a dataset with more observations than the training dataset. I think this problem is a generic "predict" problem, but I'm not sure. The original svm was fit on 50 observations.

About reverse zone in the dns
Hi By not appearing as zone by default in the integrated dns to samba 4 (BIND9_DLZ), is then added manually and it works perfectly; to join a second domain controller and perform the relevant steps are added the second domain controller as in the reverse zone is not the same as NS. How do I add it? cd1.abc.cu and cd2.abc.cu In the direct zone in the dns Name server (NS) cd1.abc.cu Name server

Help setting up USB drive
I have my 640GB USB drive connected to a CentOS 5 server and using fdisk, it seems to show a partition of the correct size, /dev/sdd1, but after mounting, the drive shows only 244M size. Does the message received when running fdisk below mean I should reformat this drive, I can't seemed to figure out how to do that with fdisk. Can someone tell me how to reformat, if needed? The drive is empty,
