Simplifying User Adding
I was wondering if there is a way Samba can use either the Windows domain or Unix usernames and passwords rather than having to have add another password. We are running HPUX 11 samba 2.0.6 and whenever we have to add a new user (once or twice a month) we have to add them to the Windows domain, the Unix passwd file and then set them up in Samba for a password. is there a simpler way? EOL conversion??
Hi, I've checked all the docs I can find and this top icisn't mentioned, so I'm guessing there is no such thing, but I have users who swear that VisionFS used to automatically convert unix text files to windows text files (change the EOL to have both a carriage return and a newline, instead of just a newline). I think the user is mistaken, but just wanted to check. Is there a way

Passive file server.
I am trying to get Samba running on RH Linux 9 to act as a file server and authenticate against the domain. I don't want it to be actively involved in Active Directory or be a domain controller. I do not have the ability to add a machine to AD. All I'm looking for is, when a user wants to access a share that the user is authenticated against the domain and if they are a valid user grant

SCO OpenServer 5.0.6a and missing libncurses.so.4
I've downloaded Samba 2.2.6 (binaries) from SCOs Skunkware site, but when I try and run smbclient I get a message : dynamic linker : smbclient : error opening /usr/local/lib/libncurses.so.4 Killed I've checked and there is no libncurses.so.4 (or libncurses.<anything> for that matter) on the system. I've also failed to find anything relevant in either the list archive or SCOs

Strange files
Hello, I am using Samba 2.0.3 on my FreeBSD 2.2.7 box. Works fine. It is already running for a few months with a small amount of windows95 users and last week we decided to move all our userfiles from our SCO box with visionfs over to the Samba machine. No problems so far. But, strange files are appearing in the directorys of the NT40 workstation users. Under Unix they look like Ne00: or Ne01: or

get_share_modes problem
I have samba 2.0.5a running on Openserver 5.0.5 with the latest patches installed. I got this specific version from Skunkware (SCO's distribution of Open Source binary packages). AFAIK, they make no changes to the actual source. I have no problems with using samba for name service and printing, however with file sharing I am having some strange problems. I sporadically get problems like

Compiling with SCO
Has anybody tried to to compile SAMBA using gcc under SCO unix 5? This may just be a problem I'm having using the gcc compiler, but I'm having problems. I would just like to know if anyone's done it, and any special problems they may have had. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

Still Problems with Samba and Sco OpenServer 5
Hi All, Am I in the right group for samba problems? I only ask as I have received no replies not even "Post to the right Group" type of reply. Further to my original mail, I have now copied the ip addresses of all my machines and placed them in the /etc/hosts file. the command server% nmblookup -B xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx '*' now comes

Looking for compiled version 1.9 of Samba - revised
Much thanks to all respondents. Since 1.9 is a very old version, I have the source code but am looking (close to begging) for someone who has a compiler to create an executable for me. I would be glad to send along the source , if you could compile and return an executable. This is the better request than to ask someone for their compiler. Thank you Paul Davis Sr. Business Development Manager

How do I read a text (.csv) file to match a matrix/cross tab? (Object confusion??)
I'm having a problem reading data to set control totals for a dataframe. I want to adjust a dataframe based on a 2-d table of values, which I get by using : > CurrentX1Sums <- as.matrix(xtabs(~tripid_nu+lineon, data=SurveyData)) > CurrentX2Sums <- apply(CurrentX1Sums, 1, sum) I've created a .csv file with new (target) sums that looks like this: tripid_nu Warner

File system usage
This is a simple question. How much file system overhead is there with this system? Is it only as large as the largest file transfered or could you potentially (even if configured correctly) end up with double what you started out with on the sending or receiving end? The reason I need to be sure is that I have a file system that's literally several hundred thousand files. Complete it's
