Domtools.com hyjacked?
Attempted to install dlint port. Only distribution site is www.domtools.com Email to 'content@domtools.com' and pab@domtools.com bounces (can't relay) Phone number missing on whois record. Fetch of tarball fails checksum (it delivers a generic 'web hosted search engine that just hijacked someone's domain' web page. Maybe domtools didn't renew? New web company

Please evaluate my patch for Winbind
Yesterday I posted a problem report with some diagnostics. I seem to have found a solution on my own and provide a patch here. [I didn't post this as a follow-up because nobody responded to my original post and I wanted to make sure someone reads at least this one.] The patch makes the winbind client (libnss_winbind.so) code more robust. Consider the following fragment of broken

Need help HPUX11 and winbind (pwgetent)
Hello, I have Samba 2.2.5 installed with winbind. on an HPUX 11 server. I am using Domain security using a W2K PDC. I have successfully joined the domain, and wbinfo commands (-t -u -g ) all come back with good data. The problem is I can not get pwgetent to run. It always says not found. I have the libnss_winbind.so libraries linked in /lib, and winbind in my nsswitch.conf. Also have the

[HELP] understanding winbind smb.conf parameters
hi list, may be it's a stupid question, because it's written in smb.conf but i don't understand the description of the following parameters ** winbind enum users (G) On large installations using winbindd(8) it may be necessary to suppress the enumeration of users through the setpwent(),getpwent() andendpwent() group of system calls. Odd behavior of winbind
Hi, I have an odd problem with winbind. I use it for, among other thing, nsswitch user resolution. I believe it have a problem with accessing information for a single user, or with caching. When I request info for a specific user, it fail (trying to login also fail with NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_USER). But it work when I request info for all users. And then, login and getent for single account start

FreeBSD and Samba Windbind questions
Hello, I am getting ready to migrate from a Novell Server and wanted to use Samba as a PDC. I am planning on using FreeBSD, Samba 3 and LDAP. The problem I encounter is that one of our business applications is only supported on Novell or Windows. What I was hoping to do was configure a Samba PDC and have a W2K server that houses that application join the Samba Domain. Then when I access the

RES: winbind/wbinfo not pulling info from W2K AD PDC
I've had a further look at this now and a hunt through some mail lists and I think it must have something to do with the windbind pipe in /tmp/.windbind/pipe. From what I understand it's the pipe that passes the windbind info onto other processes - although I may be wrong? Looking at my setup the pipe file isn't being created when starting winbind and after a full reboot and starting

winbind on AIX
I'm trying to get Samba on AIX 5.1 to work in appliance-like mode. I would like NT domain users to get automatically and persistently mapped to AIX/Unix users. This stuff seemed to work fine without much effort on Solaris 9, but AIX is a different story, and I'm new to AIX as well. AIX 5.1 doesn't use nss so winbind, in its current form, can't work. I saw a post from January

IDMAP, WINBIND and NIS
I have posted on this subject before but am still running into problems. The main question is whether I need to use Windbind in a single samba domain when each samba server also uses NIS for centralized unix level authentication. And if, in fact, I need windbind do I need it on all the samba servers? And do I need a central IDMAP respositoryor other mechanism to maintain consident SIDs? My

using winbind to map existing unix to AD users
On our campus, we have an AD forest. Our particular department has a number of samba servers that authenticate to one tree of that AD forest. All of our users have accounts in LDAP for unix and AD for windows. We don't want/need winbind for authentication. However, we would like the ability of setting ACLs on the samba server from windows clients. So, I assume I need a mapping of unix

stand alone winbind deamon services via apis
Hello, When I mount a cifs share from Windows server onto a linux client, all I am interested in is sid to uid and gid and vice versa mapping. Can I accomplish that using just windbind and not samba server and nmbd i.e. have a windbind.conf file with the pertinent stanza! Say I just give the Windows share server name/ip address and sid to winbind deamon via one of its existing APIs, can it

Winbind Problem after Update from 3.0.21b -> 3.0.23b
Hi all, we're using Winbind on a Solaris 9 machine to authenticate our Users, who are held in a Windows 2003SP1 AD. We are now using Samba 3.0.21b and everything works as expected. I configured the nsswitch and installed "libnss_winbind.so" and "pam_winbind.so" as described in the documentation and winbind is able to resolve the AD users and groups and the useres are able
