let's make it simple
I have not gotten a reply to my last post about not being able to access samba shares, so I would like to start from scratch. I am new to samba and I would like to start with a simple smb.conf that would guarantee access to a share by anyone, then start adding security measures until I have a secure working config. Does anyone have a smb.conf file they could send me that would get me started? --

Help a newbie (please!): Samba and WinXP in a non-PDC environment
Hi all... looking for some assistance with my first Samba setup. The setup: On a small (five-computer, mixed Win2k and WinXP pro) LAN, I'd like a share on my FreeBSD server to be available for storage. No printing, no PDC, no individual user directories or password protection -- just a big ol' slice of storage for everyone to access equally. I've come close, (the share shows up

Simple Samba
I have simple needs, as I am my only user. I am in transition between Linux and Windows. I need to get Samba running. I DO NOT need any security between machines (except to the internet.) I have certain hardware requirements that forces me to keep Windows a little longer, some day soon I will be able to afford to make the last changes. In the mean time I need to move and store my "My

rails not ready for production use?
All, I am just getting started with Rails.  Reading the Wiki though, I came across the following: "IMO Rails is going thru such heavy churn on all OSs that it is just not feasible for quality production use unless you’ve got it perfectly setup and don’t do any related updates (b/c there are waay too many dependency issues going on)...." How much of this is true?  If I develop on

Printing to FreeBSD server from XP using samba
A couple of days ago I set up my printer on my FreeBSD server and set it up so I could print from my FreeBSD client. This all works very well, printing from botht the server and the FBSD client. However, I also have samba set up for file serving with an XP box. I have been trying for quite some time now to set samba up to enable me to print from the XP client. My situation at the moment is that

Samba won't allow PC connections
Hello list, I am at the hair pulling stage of this game right now. Having read through many of the posts, I still seem to be unable to get my samba server to allow anonymous connections ( or any connections for that matter ) from windows machines. All I want to do is have printers and one folder shared, all as guest accessable. I have made the security level = share and made the shares

finding files whose name does NOT contain a given character
Unluckily I dela with miRNA files whose name may contain the character "*". Because of the special meaning of "*" I have to remove it. I found out how to make list.files() extract only those file names which contain a "*" Namely: # list.files(pattern="\\*") Now I have to process all files whose name does NOT contain the character "*". I cannot

semi-OT: t-bird mime type on .pdf attachment is wrong
I was sending my manager a copy of a form, and attached it (not inline), using -t-bird, and he complains it didn't want to open. Looking at the message source, t-bird had decided that the mime type was all/allfiles, though the name ended in .pdf. I've searched via the config editor, and I've been googling, and not finding anything. (I just *adore* the current google: I have

Newbie's question
Hi guys, I've brand new to the R scene. I have hundreds of csv files that has field 1 ,YYYY/MM/DD as index How to generate a graph of distribution and calculate the standard deviation of field2 for all of the files in a directory? I'm wondering if R could do this. Thanks a lot. -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/Newbie%27s-question-tf3730746.html#a10442845 Sent from

how to create normalized pdf plot?
Hello, I have multiple data files. Each file contains a single column and 1.5 million rows. I want to create normalized pdfs (area under curve is 1) and histograms to compare with one another. Could anybody suggest if there exists an easy way or built in function in R. At present I am using Origin and Excel together to do this. A single file needs 10 minutes and I have a total of 929 files! So

Playback all the sound files
Hello. There are so many sound files in /var/lib/asterisk/en. Is there an easy way to let me play back all of them one by one while I am watching CLI to see the current file name? security = none?
hey guys. I am running a samba server on my machine at home, which has two other machines on it - both running windows, one's mine and one's my flatmates. Since I am running samba on a trusted network (and I do have the hosts allow rule restricting access so that when I connect to the net people can't just start using my samba server), I am wanting to essentially remove the security

Samba Connection Problem
I've just set up samba for a small LAN. I'm running samba 2.2.7 on RH 8. Now I have a real problem that I have no clue on. I have VERY intermittent connectivity to the Samba server. If I left a computer (Windows 98) idle for a while, and then try to browse the contents in the Samba server, I will get this error " domain is unavailable" or "The specified network name is no

trouble with Vista & reading files
All, I am having trouble with a "read.table()" function that is inside of another function. But if I call the function by itself, it works fine. Moreover, if I run the script on a Mac OS X (with the default Mac OS X version of R installed, rev 2.8), it works fine. But it does not work if I run it on windows vista (also default Windows version of R, rev. 2.8). Again, both

force Samba bind to internal IP only
Hello everybody, We need to configure Samba (recent cvs) on our Linux (SuSE 7.2) box (iptables/FreeSwan) acting as firewall, router and VPN gateway. Whenever nmbd or smbclient try to connect to our Samba PDC (WINS ok, IP 192.168.0.5) packets are sent with a source address of the external interface x.y.46.70 and will of course be blocked by iptables and never be routable to subnet 192.168.0.0 . CentOS 5.7, evince
I believe I updated evince early this month on this one server. Since then I don't seem to be able to open a .pdf: 100% of the time, I get "unhandled mime type: files/allfiles". Has anyone seen anything like this? Note that this is when it's allegedly trying to open it. I've tried telling it what to open from the command line, and brought it up by itself, told it to open,
