Advice on Winbindd and NTLM Auth Performance
Hello Everyone,
Thanks for your inputs I have followed whats here https://wiki.freeradius.
org/guide/Active-Directory-direct-via-winbind . Apart from the different
location for the directories. I have added the recommended options in samba.
However I cannot see why this would make a difference to performance.
The guide for setting up a samba domain member seems more to be aimed at

Samba PDC reliability?
Hello all,
I'm using Samba 2.2.5 compiled on Solaris 8 for my PDC, I've included my
smb.conf below. My client machines are all winnt4.0 service pack 6, but I
can't get them to log in to the PDC reliably. Very rarely will they log in
properly, I usually get the "Domain controller could not be contacted" error
message. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks!

Samba4.2rc4 with winbindd in config cannot start samba process
Hi all,
I have tried to migrate a domain from Samba3 to Samba4 Ad and now using
samba RC4. Referring to release note document, I should use winbindd instead
of winbind. However, I cannot start samba4 daemon when using winbindd
parameters, but can start using winbind parameters.
Would you please help. Thanks. Below is the current config file:

Winbind broken after 2.2.8 upgrade
I have just upgraded two of our samba boxes to 2.2.8 and ended up with
partially broken winbind after the upgrade. The machines are slightly
different, and so are the symptoms, so here goes:
System 1: Was at 2.2.3 compiled from source Feb4/02, using options:
"./configure --with-winbind --with-acl-support --with-quotas". Running on
RedHat 7.2, installed from SGI's XFS installer

Connecting samba + winbind with 2 controllers windows domains.
I have configured Samba + Winbind + AD. Currently my windows domain consists
of 2 servers and all the samba settings I have it on one of them.
How I can do so if one server fails windows, work with other Windows server?
I have only to add to server2 to the password server option in my smb.conf?
Use: samba-winbind-3.0.33 + 3.0.33

Problem with ACLs after upgrade to 3.02
I'm trying to work out an upgrade path for upgrading our 2.2.8a
servers to 3.x, and have run into the following problem. (surely
someone has documented this?!)
Freshly loaded Mandrake 9.2 server using XFS with ACL
support. Samba 3.0.2a compiled with:
--with-winbind --with-acl-support --with-quotas
The stock 2.2.8a Mandrake RPMS were installed and tested

samba-2.2.5 + spoolss + WindowsXP=DENIED? plus some
I have setup my samba server to be a domain controller for my primarily windows based home network. For the most part this work well. I am running on samba 2.2.5, installed from an RPM I downloaded directly from the us4 samba mirror. The host OS is Redhat 7.3 with all current patches. But I am running into two problems.
First of all, when I try to connect to the shared printer we have from

Hi all!
I've a running Samba PDC (LDAP backend) with windows clients. All the users
are in the LDAP, including the 'guest' user. All except the 'root' user which

Supporting multiple clients -- per machine/os config?
Short version: Different clients need different socket options to perform
well. Can I point to a different smb.conf file as a function of the client
name or OS?
Long version follows for the masochists!
At home I run a mixed-client network, and I am having problems configuring
my smb.conf to support them all equally well. I am able to create shares,
and I can browse them, but file transfers
