XFS / ACL / CUPS Issues
Hola folks,
I've been attempting to put together a test server to see how well Samba
2.2.5 plays with NT domains. I'm running Gentoo Linux 1.2 on a Compaq
ProLiant 3000, and my test fileshare is on an XFS partition.
The server has successfully joined our test domain and is able to list
accounts/groups properly via getent. I am also able to log on to the server
using an NT account.

Authenticate against NT Domain Group Membership
Hola folks,
How do I configure a share under Samba 2.2 using DOMAIN security to allow
all members of a specified NT domain group access to a particular share?
For example, something like:
[test]
comment = Test Share
path = /mnt/share/test
nt group = Nice-users, Wonderful Users
Where Nice-users and Wonderful Users are NT domain groups? So if User X is
a member of Nice-users, she would be

SUQ: Share permissions
After parsing through the various bits of available documentation, I'm
forced to bow before the group and ask the following Silly User Question:
While I can create and set NT ACLs on files/folder, anything in the root of
the share can be deleted by any user who has access to that share. I've
munged something in my file permissions. What /should/ the file permissions

Windows Filesharing Limitations
I've been trying to set up a server to fileshare to mac and windows
clients using Netatalk and Samba. Basic setup and functionality works,
but we have two lingering problems, both on the windows clients:
- can't change the user field
- can't change the group field
The windows client permissions dialog allows you to change it, but once
you close and reopen it, the changes are gone.

getting files and ACLs from a fileshare in Python
Hi,
I am weighing Python for an application which needs to connect to a
fileshare, to index the documents and also to retrieve the ACLs.
Is there an equivalent of the Java libjcifs in Python?
Given that the application will be running on Windows, what is the
best way to use the win32 API from Python?
If the application is running on Linux, I might be better off simply
mounting the share. Do

Problem Promoting Windows DC into existing Samba 4 domain
Hello, I am working on adding a Windows 2008 R2 DC into an existing Samba 4
domain. The Samba 4 domain has two DCs running Samba 4.2.
I was able to successfully run dcpromo on the Windows server and it appears
that nearly everything has replicated except for the DomainDnsZones
partition.
I have completed the steps in this article for the AD NC Replica command
and I also turned off Strict

Segmentation fault
Hello,
Last night there appears to have been a loop in the network of my colocation provider. Somehow this loop/packet flood caused tinc to crash. I guess that, even though it seems to have restarted, it did not manage to reconnect/re-open the tap device/something else went wrong; the machine itself was communicating with the internet but I could not access it over the VPN.

error when trying to copy file from samba share to old Windows CE share
What i see with google and that error code is.
Windows activation problems due to bad disk/bad sectors.
File copy problems due to wrong rights.
Virus/mailware activity.
And what happens if you change your share to :
[fileshare]
comment = Public Share
path = /share/fileshare
public = no
writable = yes
printable = no
A few thing you can check/try.

UI performance awful - please help!
I've set up a Samba 2.2.5 server authenticating against an OpenLDAP
server. Everything seems to be working, except that changing directories
takes 15-30 seconds. I've set up nss_ldap, optimized the nscd cache and
my LDAP server's cache and indexes, and both seem to respond instantly
on the command line (for cache hits, anyway). If I connect with NET USE
on a client machine, it

Upgraded samba, mostly still works, but have one issue
Hello list,
I recently upgraded an Ubuntu 8.04 LTS samba server to 10.04 LTS which
took the installed version of samba from version 3.0.28a to version
3.4.7. The server is an AD member using idmap-rid. I have updated the
idmap directives in the config and it mostly worked (winbind works,
Windows users can get to their shares with their correct permissions,
etc.). The only thing that got

Problem accessing [home] share - SMB/AD
I have a deployement of samba 3.2.5, with MIT KRB5.1.6.3 and authentication
from Win2k3 AD server. I am able to access public shares as well as
restricted shares such as an 'Engineering' share when I put my user in the
correct AD group. However, I am completely unable to access my "Home"
share.
Getent passwd, works (grepped for my username)

Resending this to whole list, sorry for the duplicate email Rowland, I
rarely use mailing lists and didn't notice the Reply-To was to you
instead of the list.

error when trying to copy file from samba share to old Windows CE share
Hello,
This error started after upgrading my distro(did a fresh install of
fedora 30 server edition), which upgraded samba from 4.1.20 to 4.10.4.
If I try to copy a file using a Windows 7 PC from the samba share to
an old Windows CE share (on a CNC router table, so can't upgrade it)
it tells me:
An unexpected error is keeping you from copying the file. If you
continue to receive this error,

Samba tuning advise
Helo,
We use a big fileserver running Linux/Samba as fileshare.
We are facing performances problems for which we'd like some advise :
Clients are OS2(LanManager) and windows 2000 reading and writing lots of
files in the same directory on the fileshare.
We currently have more than 80 000 files in the directory (files size is
about 100 Bytes).
Could you please advise us some Samba tuning

OS/2 error while accessing samba share
I have a Samba server running version 3.0.2-6.3E on Whitebox Linux 3.
The samba server is joined to a NT4 domain. I can access the share
from my XP Pro box just fine. But, accessing the samba share from an
OS/2 box results in an error. I am able to map the share just fine
using 'net use'. But when I try to access the share within the GUI, I
get the error: "No objects were found that

XFS ACLs vanish. (2.2.2a and 2.2.3a)
Hiya. I've got an XFS partition, have compiled and installed all the
XFS stuff, then compiled (with --with-acl-support) samba, which then
returns:
checking whether to support ACLs... checking for acl_get_file in
-lacl... yes
checking for ACL support... yes
Using posix ACLs
So it would seem to me that ACLs would be supported. So then I install
and run it, add the box to the (Samba 2.2.2)
