BDC and Roaming Profiles
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Hello,
I was wondering if it is possible to enable roaming profiles on the BDC.
I have consulted the samba.org documentation on roaming profiles and
couldn't find the solution for my setup:
server1:
samba pdc integrated with master ldap + replica to server2
users home shares and profiles are stored here in /home/samba/ and
shared using [homes].

roaming profiles stored on BDCs? how?
I have a PDC named GOMER w/ IP of 10.8.3.37 and a BDC named BLDG2 w/ ip
of 10.8.7.2. when someone on the 10.8.7.x network using the WINS server
of 10.8.7.2 logs in and out, their roaming profile is stored on the
PDC. is there any way to have the roaming profile stored on the BDC?,
because I will have other 10.8.x.x networks and some of these remote
sites will be using DSL and I don't

roaming profiles behavior
I have a PDC named gomer w/ IP 10.8.3.37 and a BDC named bldg1 w/ IP of
10.8.3.231, and a testpc w/ IP of 10.8.3.237. in the TCP/IP settings of
testpc, I put the WINS server as 10.8.3.231, but when I log in, the
roaming profile is stored onto gomer. Is this correct behavior? I then
changed bldg1's logon path from logon path = \\%L\profiles\%U to logon
path = \\bldg1\profiles\%U and

Beating a dead horse - Roaming profiles / logon scripts
Using samba 3.0.8 and Suse ES 9.0 I'm having problems getting roaming
profiles/local profiles and logon scripts on a Win2k or WinXP workstation
working correctly. My bdc is supposed to be doing the authentication
against my PDC\LDAP server. Even when I enable Only allow local profiles
on the XP machine it will logout a domain samba user with a sorry no
roaming or local profile available

W7 and Roaming Profiles on two different PDC
Hello,
I use a Samba 3.6.12-59.23.1-3256-SUSE-SL12.3-x86_64 coming with
openSUSE 12.3 as a PDC. I also use roaming profiles with Windows 7 Pro
clients. This works perfect.
Now I need to _move some clients_ / profiles to another server with
Samba 4.1.9-3.22.1-3256-SUSE-oS13.1-i386 (openSUSE 13.1). This one works
already fine, but with different users. So I can exlude mistakes in my

Roaming profiles and delete files reappearing.
Hello.
I see a lot of people having this problem, but found not solution so far.
The setup: samba 3.0.37 on FreeBSD 7.3/i386 acting as PDC; a similar BDC
(only amd64) and XP clients.
Users have roaming profiles on the PDC.
What happens is:
_ a laptop user disconnects from the network (so the local and server
profiles are fully synchronized);
_ at home [s]he deletes some files;

version number in front of me for samba) from SUSE enterprise 10 using the
LDAP backend. There is a trust setup between all the domains and the

Samba 3.0.9 PDC - Saving roaming user profiles from windows 2000 sp4 (w2k) failed
Hello,
i must admit that i'm totally lost. After working a lot of hours my new samba server is still not running fine. I had read a lot of papers but i have no idea what's going wrong.
My goal:
---------
Samba 3.0.9 (Fedora Core 2) working as a PDC for windows 2000 professional client (with sp4 and all hotfixes applied) _with_ roaming user profiles.

roaming profiles and samba
I have a network comprised of a linux server (mandrake) running samba 3.0.4
as a PDC and clients all being windows xp. I am in the process of doing a
practice run of roaming profiles and am currently stuck. What is the most
common way to prevent two of the workstations from logging into the pdc and
thus corrupting the roaming profile? Ive googled this till im blue in the
face and am getting

Roaming/local profiles behavior in XP
Hey all,
Relatively new to Samba configuration here - I've set up a system where
XP clients can login and get their roaming profiles and all is well
with that, but I see the synchronization which takes place on logout to
be a big problem. So, I'm looking to turn off roaming profiles and
instead go with remapping the documents, desktop and pictures folders
to their server

configuration needed to load roaming profiles off of a BDC?
I have a PDC named GOMER with IP 10.8.3.37 and a BDC named BLDG1 with IP
10.8.3.231, both in the domain ADAMSTEST. I have a user testuser who
logged in successfully to GOMER and has a roaming profile in
/var/lib/samba/profiles/testuser. So I changed the TCP/IP settings of
the windows XP computer testuser uses from the WINS server of 10.8.3.37
to 10.8.3.231 so it would use BLDG1 for

Roaming profile problem BDC
Hi all,
I have a problem with my PDC - BDC LDAP setup with roaming profiles.
Both are in the same network.
Both servers get the user homes and profiles from a NAS so they are
always up to date.
I configured to get the profiles and the homes from the logon server like
logon path = \\%L\profiles\%U
logon home = \\%L\%U
The home directories work as expected. %L is translated to the logon

PDC + BDC + Roaming Profiles
Hi,
i have a LDAP Master / Slave setup, but my roaming profiles are lying on
the PDC.
Whats the best method to keep the profiles in sync? Or should i use
another FileServer for the profiles?
what do i have to check in smb.conf for having profiles on a different
machine? do i also need to move the netlogon dir?
cheers

Reality Check -> Roaming Profiles
Disclaimer... I know Roaming Profiles are a modern day example of "the emperor?s new cloths". I also know that 2+2=4.
Let's think Linux/Unix here a second. Preference files are stored in the user's home dir. A user can log in (text or X) multiple times, they will always get the same home dir. Thus each login instance
will share those config files.
The same just happens to be

temporary profiles problem - don't want roaming profiles
I have a Samba PDC (Ubuntu 12, OpenLDAP 2.4.28, Samba 3.6.3), and at two
remote sites, I have some Samba BDCs.
For now I've manually entered the DCs as WINS servers on the workstations
I'm using for testing. At the remote sites, I can log in with an account
that has no logon path or logon home specified, and it works perfectly.
But at the main site, when I try to log on to one of these

PDC, BDCs - how do you synchronize roaming profiles?
Hello,
I'm about to deploy Samba PDC and several BDCs.
As far as I understand Samba and domain logons, this means that a user
will be able to log onto any server, with his workstation choosing a
domain controller that is probably the closest/fastest etc. one.
As a consequence, this also means, that on each server there has to be a
copy of a profile of a given user, right?
If so, how can

Samba 3 as pdc : Roaming profile cannot be created.... win2k workstation
I have Samba 3 running on gentoo as a pdc. I read in someone's forum
posting to try enabling acls and that didn't seem to do much good. I
can get the computers to be added to the domain using their smb
username/passwords and when they login, the correct shares
corresponding to their users map perfectly; however, my biggest
problem is when they do login it says the following:
