can't pause a samba shared printer from w2k pc
Running samba installed from rpm 2.2.5-1 on rh 7.2 system... security=domain with winbind to NT pdc, LPRng Trying to pause printing without specifying a queuepause command I get: You do not have permissions to modify the settings for this printer. If you need to change the settings, contact your network administrator. With queuepause command = /usr/sbin/lpc stop %p queueresume command =

delay in winbindd user/group lookups with many users/groups in domain
Hi! I have the following problem: winbindd getgrnam/getpwnam/lookupname calls do not return for a long time (> 30 seconds) which is obviously quite annoying to the users. This usually happens at the "first" login, i.e. subsequent connections are not delayed until a (probably cache) timeout. I've failed to determine who is responsible for the caching yet. I'll provide

quick pam_winbind.so question
2.2.6 installed from rpm on rh 7.2 system... I'm trying to use pam_winbind and apache's basic authentication to restrict access to certain directories served by apache. It does work, but when I enter a wrong password I get this error in log.winbindd: Plain-text authentication for user jarboed returned NT_STATUS_WRONG_PASSWORD Is there a way that pam_winbind.so can encrypt the passwords

Default domain for winbindd?
Hello once again, I've got winbind doing authentication not just for the samba service but also sshd and login. It's great. However, I have to give a fully-qualified username (e.g. "GENEEDINC+chris.palmer") as the username when logging in via these methods. I wondered, Is there any way to get winbindd to insert the domain and the separator for the user, when none is provided? I

Win2K Printer Driver Problems - Hi Jerry!!
Nope, close but no cigar. With 2.2.6Pre2 Word started to behave itself but Outlook acts as though landscape is a foreign concept(i.e everything prints portrait regardless of page setup). Spoolsv also crashes on the Win2K workstations requiring a manual restart of the spooler service. We will downgrade to 2.2.5 and try Jerry's patch. In another message Jerry talks about "running"

REPOST: queuepause/queueresume and w2k machines, won' t work
[Shane Drinkwater] Daniel, I have the same probelm. These are the steps I did in a previous thread... Jim, I think I found another bug... I really seem to be in printer hell :(.... I found that windows 2k doesn't update its status "ready" or "paused" when used with samba. Here is what I did... 1.) enable all of the lpr/lpd queues. check em' with lpq... 2.)

Can't join linux machine to linux pdc controlled domain.
Getting error message: Error connecting to my_pdc Unable to join domain my_domain when I run 'smbpasswd -j my_domain -r my_pdc' from linux_box my_pdc is the primary domain controller for my_domain. I have three win2k machines that are all using the pdc for domain authentication. They all work fine (funny enough) and can access the domain. I have added linux_box$ to /etc/passwd on

Samba 3 beta 3 helpers and squid?
I'm trying the new RHEL 3 beta, which comes with samba 3 beta 3, and squid 2.5.STABLE3. Both samba and squid seem appropriately compiled... and I'm using the same config files as samba 2.2.8a and squid 2.5.stable3 (which worked), but windows authentication with the helpers is failing. I asked the squid list first, and got "Samba 3 supports Basic and NTLM authentication for Squid and

3.0.6 and pam_winbind problems (sernet)?
Recently I upgraded a server from samba 3.0.2a to 3.0.6, and now apache won't authenticate properly with pam_winbind. Winbind's been restarted, apache has been restarted, for grins I even rebooted the server. >From /var/log/messages: Aug 26 10:24:51 linps2 pam_winbind[654]: user 'jarboed' granted acces >From apache's error log: [Thu Aug 26 10:24:51 2004] [error] (2)No

Problems joining NT Domain
I am trying to get my linux box running slackware with kernel 2.0.36 and samba 2.0.0 (full version not BETA) to join our NT domain. I first added to computer to the domain. Then I typed this (computer and domain names altered for protection): linux_computer:/usr/local/samba/bin# smbpasswd -j MY_DOMAIN -r MY_PDC Where linux_computer is the linux computer (like you needed that) MY_DOMAIN is the

Several questions with w2k printing to samba
Samba 2.2.5-1 installed via RPM on a RH7.2 system, authentication is against an NT PDC (security = domain) using winbindd. Mostly w2k clients connecting to samba for print serving. (A) Is the smbpasswd needed if my samba authentication uses winbindd against a PDC? (B) Every 15 minutes or so I get this in log.nmbd: [2002/07/30 06:32:04, 0]

[OT] Apache rewrite stuff...
Hi all, a little off topic, but was wondering what the best way is to re-write incoming requests so that they all end up at the same domain. For example, if I had: my_domain.net my_domain.com my_domain.org Whats the best way to map/redirect all of these to www.my_domain.com ? I know its possible, just not sure what to add for rules/virtual hosts in my apache config. Thanks for the help! -Nick

Samba standalone + openldap
Hi everybody, I'm new to this mailing list, i need help about a configuration with Samba / Openldap. I have a samba server with shared folders, where users authenticate with a determined login/password. I would like to use my directory (openldap) to authenticate my users to access the shared folders. I do not want to use samba as a domain controller, just to authenticate the users with

Usernames with dots
Now that I have winbind working, life is good. However, I've hit upon a real kick in the pants. As you can see from my email address, we have a convention here of usernames being firstname.lastname. So, when I go to change the owner ship of a file: $ chown chris.palmer myfile Linux thinks I mean user chris, group palmer, and says "invalid group" (there is no palmer group,

2.2.5 upgrade bug report - winbindd and password servers
Boy this was a big scary headache! As well, I really wish the samba upgrade didn't wipe my changes to /etc/pam.d/samba and /etc/rc.d/init.d/smb (back them up instead, please). Situation: Upgrading Samba from 2.2.4 to 2.2.5. Samba is using winbindd for authentication. Problem: Under 2.2.4, smb.conf originally contained a password server specified by IP address: password server

Machine failing to keep its trust with Domain Controller
Hi, We have a Linux (RHEL 3.0, update 3) Samba 3 server which worked fine for months but suddently have trouble to keep its trust with the DC server. The only way to recover is to reset the machine account from the Windows DC side and do a "net join" to the domain from the Linux side. The Linux machine is able to keep its "trust" with the domain exactly 7 days, which,
