Re: 2.2.3a as a PDC for Win2k Pro and/or WinXP Pro
Hi Mathias, I can't speak on Win2k Pro but have recently tested WinXP Pro. Now with XP you will need to use the reg file included with the samba archive (in a sub directory in the docs dir). Once that has been applied (presuming all accounts have already been created on server) you can join the domain and log in no problems. -- Regards, Deryk Robosson Robosson Business Services 22

Problem with Samba 2.2.8a PDC and Win2k Pro clients...
Im back everyone. Something I just noticed today and im not sure how to fix it: I setup our PDC running Samba 2.2.8a with OpenLDAP 2.0.27 on the backend to hold user accounts. By default, when I add users to our PDC, they are added to the domain users group. I then add them to whatever else groups I want them to be in. Everything has been working great. Well, today I went to one of my clients

home directory error with Win2k PDC users
Hi List, I just installed Samba 2.2.8a in a RedHat 7.2, I configured it as a domain member using Winbind and everything worked fine. I can list my users in the domain and the groups too, I can do a telnet connection using the domain users and I can map a shared folder from windows but the main problem is this: When I look for the computer in the network neighborhood I can see the user home

PDC Problems (read this the first one is incomplete)
Sorry but I've posted an incomplete message before that: I've got a big problem with my PDC (Mandrake 8.2 with samba 2.2.5): when I try to join the domain from a W2KPRO (sp3) workstation the procedure goes on well until it require to create a local account for a Domain user ... the system let me browse all the user account on the domain controller but when I try to add it reports this

Authentication problems using libsmbclient to traverse DFS links
Hi, I'm trying to create a map of DFS links to actual server/share's. I know that you can get this information by logging on to the DFS root server, but I'm trying to use the libsmbclient API to get this information. I have created a fairly simple DFS structure on 2003 servers with everything on the same domain. //MyDomain/DFSRoot /Link1 -> //Fileserv-1/FileShare1 /Link2

One way trust relationship between Win2k and Samba 2. x.x PDC
I'm sure this has been discussed before, but would it then be possible to join a "real" NT4 or Win2k BDC to the Samba domain and establish the trust relation from our other Win2k? Or does the trust relationship have to be "registered" with the entire domain and therefore all the domain controllers? Khanh Tran Network Operations Sarah Lawrence College 1 Mead Way

Samba PDC for Win2k and WinXP Pro
I have samba 2.2.7 running on a RedHat Linux 7.3 system that is being used as a PDC and a file server for a group of Windows 2k and Windows XP Pro computers. I am having a problem with the roaming profiles working on both the 2k and XP machines. The profiles seem to load fine when you log on, but when you log off it will only copy the ntuser.dat file and then a few more files (seems to go to

Problem with configurable Linux as a PDC with Windows 2000 clients
I was attempting to setup my Linux box as a PDC but have met some problems along the way.... I am using RH8 which carries samba 2.2.5. I have a testbed with 1x Linux box, 1x Windows 2000 Professional (client). I have checked connectivity between the two pcs with a ping from both ends. I followed the instructions suggested by "Samba Unleashed", configuring the smb.conf as follows: ....

Wierdness using Samba PDC with WinXP-Pro and Win2K-Pro clients
Hi All- Please tell me if I'm posting to the wrong list. I looked for the list called samba-ntdom (listed at http://us1.samba.org/samba/archives.html) because it seemed a more appropriate forum, but it looks like that list has been dissolved. Has the discussion for that list moved to some other list? Anyway, here's the problem that I'm hoping someone can help me with: I have

looking for good DFS implementation advice
I have read through some of the info on using dfs roots and I am needing some advice. Since a unc is still \\servername\ based it occurs to me that the only way to do this properly is to create a smb.conf file that publishes a netbios name like \\dfsroot -- Then, to create a failover system, I would take that config file and copy it around to multiple samba server. Then, have some kind of watch or

DFS not working w/ fully.qualified.sub.domain
Hi: I've got a samba/DFS server configured that works fine under it's original name, but I'm getting booted out of that DNS domain, into a subdomain. All my (WinXP) clients have drives mapped to names like \\server.domain.com\dfsroot. If I browse to the path, \\server.domain.com\dfsroot, everything works. I can access the shares pointed to via the dfs links But, now the network is
