I am still struggling to get one of my samba servers to work with the new security on RH 7.3. Any help is appreciated. The "not fully working computer" serves as a print server for the Window computers. You can log into it, but you cannot see it from the Network Neighborhood. On some versions of Windows you cannot find it through the "Find Computers" programs. The

Can't access shares from Win98 machine
Hello all. I have recently set up Samba on my Rehdat 9 machine. I have on my home network 2 computers, one running Redhat 9 (with Samba as mentioned), and the other running Windows 98 2nd ed. My RH machine can read and access shared directories on the Win98 machine just fine. My Windows machine can see my Redhat machine on the smb, but cannot access the shares. In other words, when I go to

asterisk and iptables
Hi, I have a problem with asterisks on Linux. Looks like it is a iptables problem. My external client (eyebeam, on a different computer) cannot register to the asterisk server, but the asterisk server itself *looks* working. If I dial one of the incoming phone numbers for the server, I can see the call arriving in Asterisk (using asterisk -r). I tried nmap on my server, and this is the result:

No RID Set found for this server. Can't self-allocate
The Samba ports are not filtered. The firewall is between STG-DC and SAMBADC (both of them sync correctly). The sync problems happen in VIG-DC3, which is behind the same firewall of STG-DC. Here's nmap output (SAMBADC is 172.16.50.9): root at vig-dc3:~# nmap -Pn 172.16.50.9 Starting Nmap 7.93 ( https://nmap.org ) at 2024-05-23 08:22 UTC Nmap scan report for SAMBADC.ugt.ldap (172.16.50.9)

Still can't make it work (LONG)
Well gang, I'm back and still haven't figured out why Samba isn't working with my Windoze PC's. I though I was close a couple times, but now I'm back to square 1. So now I'm going to spill as much information on you guys as I can in the hope that someone will notice what I'm doing wrong and help me get this thing running. Here are the computers on my home network:

Clean install of RedHat 7.3, including samba - unable to connect to port 139
I did a clean install of Redhat 7.3 on a system. The install included samba, samba-client, samba-common. I moved the saved versions of smb.conf, smbusers and swbpasswd to /etc/samba. Then I started up smb by issuing "/etc/init.d/smb start" I have set smb to start upon reboot of the system. I have rebooted the system several times. smbd and nmbd start up, but clients cannot

SWAT won't start
Hi, I'm setting up Samba on a RH ES linux machine. I have basic functionality working and can access a share from a Windows pc. I set up smb.conf manually. I'd like to use SWAT but when I try to run it I get the error: -- The connection was refused when attempting to contact localhost:901 -- I set up the xinetd configuration file exactly as I've seen online. Webmin works fine.

Fwd: Reh Hat ipchains tricks
Hi Raymond, I also struggled 3 days to set up a direct connection between a RH7.3 box and a WinME box with a crossover cable for experiment and met with frustration. The setup of WinME box has no problem and it can connect to other Win boxes for file sharing. IP Address RH7.3 192.168.0.1 WinME 192.168.0.2 Ping started connecting but both boxes can't see each another. I also doubt

Where did I go wrong with this Samba configuration?
I'm just about to give up in despair of getting Samba working on my network. I've browsed through several books, HOWTOs and websites and still can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Before I quit, could someone double check this and maybe spot what I've missed? First, let me describe my network. Names and IP addresses have been changed to protect the innocent. :-)

ipchains - major newbie trap
Just a quick word - I spent two days trying to get Samba to work. The whole problem was a lack of knowledge about ipchains (firewall). It was part of the RH7.1 install package, and the medium security setting stops all tcp and udp traffic for a lot of ports, including those needed for NetBIOS (137-139) It is pretty easy to fix, the IPCHAINS-HOWTO is a good and humorous read, and by the end of

Bind to eth1 only problem
Hello, I am trying to setup a samba server as a pdc bound to eth1 only (testing network). however I still seeing samba bind to eth0. I am running a debian unstable box... any ideas? do you need anything more to go on? (see attachments) I am starting smbd and nmbd up using a startup script out of /etc/init.d with the options: --exec /usr/sbin/nmbd -- -s /etc/samba/smb.ts.conf -D; --exec
