'multi-layered' authentication
I need to allow [read] access to a Samba server using both IP filtering & UserIDs . For a given list of IP subnets, any user should have access. Outside these 'trusted' subnets, I need to do User authentication. I can handle the User authentication OK in several ways. However, I don't see any way to do the 'short circuit' allow for some IPs, then use User authentication

Winbind: SID-gid mappings lost after server crash
Hello again, my server crashed today. It crashed because it ran out of file handles, which is not Samba's fault but mine. The server runs Suse 7.2 and Samba 2.5.5 with WInbind installed. The sever crash didn't effect any file systems, because I managed to properly shut the server down. The problem is that after I rebooted, some or all of the SID - uid/gid mappings got mixed up; e.g. gid

Winbind-Cyrus-Outlook
I have been using Winbind for some time. We are now looking to use IMAP to replace Exchange. Currently we have configured Winbind to join our domain. Shares work fine and the ability to assign rights from the command line work fine for domain users is fine. The problem is that when outlook sends the user name and password to Winbind and PAM it bails out. When I see the users in Linux they

valid users and groups with winbind
Hi, Just starting on this list. I have samba (2.2.5a) on Linux/s390 and winbind authenticating and providing shares. I add the global to smb.conf: valid users = '@Domain Users' After that, I can no longer get the share even though I am in the 'Domain Users' group. # id poklcc+mikem uid=10001(POKLCC+mikem) gid=10000(POKLCC+Domain Users) groups=10000(POKLCC+Domain Users)

WINBIND with usernames with &
Samba doesn't allow connections from usernames that have & in them. For example, using 2.2.5 and winbind with security = DOMAIN password server = win2kmixed workgroup = MIXEDDOMAIN all my users can login, (for example MIXEDDOMAIN+aho, MIXEDDOMAIN+tdickson), but my users named "&" and "bobalso&" (which should be MIXEDDOMAIN+& and MIXEDDOMAIN+bobalso&)

CIFS Session transfer
Hi All, I would like to know if this is possible and if possible what is the complexity. Consider a CIFS client, SAMBA Server1 and Samba Server2. Say a session is established between a CIFS client and SAMBA server1. Is it possible for the SAMBA server1 to transfer/redirect/reestablish the connection to SAMBA server2 without the CIFS client knowing about this? The session between the CIFS

ADS, winbind and clients UIDs
Hi people! We are deploying a new scenario for out University, mostly based in Samba. The purpose is the use of a single password for every service. But we have found a little problem. The ADS are a cluster of 3 Win2003 servers. The file servers are RHAS3.0, and all the clients are dual boot pc Win/Linux, and use winbind for authentication. The idea is to export the file to the Linux clients

using winbind in pam.d/system-auth, double prompts for password
I am using samba-2.2.3a and samb-2.2.4 in my windows-2000 environment and have the my linux systems configured to use winbind in addition to standard unix for authentication. The problem I am seeing is that linux services and programs that prompt for a password will prompt first for unix authentication and then a second time for winbind authentication. Is there anyway to using winbind and unix

Winbind problem when heavy loaded ...
Hello, Sambas, Recently, I met a problem with my Samba 2.2.3a server. It is configured as a Domain Member, sometimes I couldn't get user list from PDC ( a Win2k server), but it come up again soon , say 5 seconds. I had thought it is PDC's problem, but it seems PDC is fine. Are there any other reasons will cause that? Some log messages attached. [2002/07/08 08:42:44, 0]

winbindd and /tmp/.winbind/pipe
I've seen some mention of winbindd getting into a state where it cannot connect to the pipe in /tmp/.winbind and, if the directory is removed, will not create /tmp/.winbind/pipe. I've also started seeing this behavior. I've looked at the code and I cannot figure out why this happens. Does anyone out there know why this is happening? How to work around it? If it is on the TODO list of

Authentication problems with winbind (I am so close)
Hi I have a Windows PDC and I am setting up a Redhat7.3 box with samba and winbind to have users who log onto the Redhat box get authenticated by the Windows PDC. Winbind seems to be installed correctly because I get all the correct information by using wbinfo and I can authenticate with no problem by logging into the console on the redhat box. (DOMAIN+user). But when I try to login on the RH box

winbind+samba3.0 pdc on the same machine
Hi all, I am trying to install samba 3.0 pdc alongwith winbind on the same machine, the objective is to allow Squid to use ntlm_auth for samba users existing on the same machine. If I move squid to another machine, join this machine to samba3.0 domain and then use wbinfo, everything works fine. But when I install squid on the same machine as samba and then try to use wbinfo it fails. I get the

winbind cannot run correctly
I modified /etc/nsswitch.conf, added winbind after passwd & group. Also modified /etc/samba/smb.conf same as samba HOWTO collection's example. The command "net rpc join -S DOMAIN -U Administrator" runned successfully, and I could see my Linuxbox listed in ADS user&computer management console. But when I started winbindd, some error messages appeared in /var/log/message:

Using Squid + Samba3 + Winbind
I've just setup a squid server using the above software. NTLM authentication works 90% of the time with no user intervention. I'm noticing that occasionally I'm getting a popup asking for a username and password. I've looked that the winbind logs, and the only thing I notice is: [2003/12/17 14:38:00, 1] nsswitch/winbindd_group.c:winbindd_getgroups(959) user 'root' does

winbind authentication infrequent failure
Hi, I am running a RH9.0 server, using samba 2.2.7a. I use winbind to authenticate pop3 clients (Courier IMAP through authpam, but I think that's irrelevant). Users are defined in a NT4 domain. Sometimes, I get a NT_STATUS_PIPE_NOT_AVAILABLE error from pam_winbind.so. This is not very frequent, but at about 1000 users (read: many authentication request) it becomes a problem. Could anyone help
