Problems with mapping drives
I submitted a request 2 days ago about having problems mapping one share out of 70. I have found the fix, but I would like to have an answer as to why the problem occurred. History: We have about 70 shares mapped with Samba, using winbindd for authentication. We had about 10 users that could not map their shares. They would get an error of: could not chdir to the appropriate directory on the

taking ownership
Hello, I have winbind set up and working with Linux 2.2.20acl, as far as I can tell everything works except for "Taking Ownership" and modification of permissions by group members. I have a user ( we'll call him "user" ) who is in the DOMAIN+Employees group ( this groups has full control over FILE.doc ). If I try to change permissions from a Windows 2k client, I get an

hiding Unix perms
Hello, Sorry if I missed this in the docs, I haven't seen an option to do this.. I have a Samba server ( Linux 2.20acl kernel ) named "fileserver" set up and working well as a fileserver to Windows clients ( I am using winbind also ). Samba has some awesome capabilities nowadays :) The current issues I am facing aren't exactly showstoppers, but I know they'll be

Samba 3.0 and RedHat Linux 7.0?
Does the latest Samba 3.0 release still work on redHat 7.0? I really would like to know because after downloading, compiling and installing it, it exits on startup with the following message: /usr/local/samba/bin/smbd: error while loading shared libraries: unexpected reloc type 0x80 Compiled with options: ./configure --sbindir=/usr/local/samba/bin --with-logfilebase=/var/log/samba

Samba for a Windows guy
Please make windows go away. I am enjoying(even the frustrations)learning linux for the first time. So many packages and features, it's crazy. I like crazy but have a request for you guys. Is it possible to provide me with some documentation as to how to configure my server to be a PDC compared to Windows 2000 Advanced Server? I am having a hard time understanding samba because of how easy it

Multicast panic caused by elasticsearch
Hi, I was experimenting with Logstash + elasticsearch on FreeBSD 9 - initially I downloaded it by hand (I forgot to check for a port) and it worked fine. I then tried the port and this forced me to use a different java version (was jdk-16.0.3p4_25 now openjdk6-b27) and it seems that the new one causes a panic. Unfortunately crashdumps aren't working properly, however I did get the panic

Possible pam_ssh bug?
I have a shell user who is able to login to his accounts via sshd on FreeBSD 8.2 using any password. The user had a .ssh/id_rsa and .ssh/id_rsa.pub key pair without a password but nullok was not specified, so I think this should be considered a bug. During diagnosis, /etc/pam.d/sshd was configured for authentication using: ------------- auth required pam_ssh.so

Successfully Using $135 Avaya sip phone
I think I am the first to use the $135 Avaya 4602 SIP phone, but I need some support from the community to fix one problem I have with it. The phone stops working after about 20-30mins if I have mailbox=context in Asterisk; when I do have mailbox=contect in asterisk the sip debug returns "481 extension does not exist." Anyone willing to help me figure out why? I.E. Is it an Asterisk

How to hide tick lines behind the "box-and-whisker" 's in a boxplot
Dear R people, I wonder how to hide tick lines behind other figures in a plot, e.g. in a boxplot. # Sample code: x<- c(rep(4,50),rep(5,20),rep(6,50),rnorm(20,5,1)) boxplot(x) axis(2,tck=1,col.ticks='grey',lty=5 ) # end of sample code The tick lines is put on top of the box-plot, but I would like to put these lines behind the box and whiskers.. Samba authentication logs
Hi all, I am running a Samba 4.2.14 Active Directory server on Debian and it is working fine. I have Windows workstations, Linux servers and some web services authenticate against the Samba AD. The only thing that I am missing is a proper logging for the authentication events on this system. Especially in case of web services, which are using LDAP authentication against Samba, from the logs I can

samba-latest and tdbsam - unable to logon to domain?
Dear list members, I am unable to logon to the domain. I have created the tdbsam using the "smbpasswd -a root" command. I also added User Administrator as unix and samba account. I also mapped groups "Domain Admins", "Domain users" and "Domain Guests" to unix groups domadmins, domusers and domguests using the "net groupmap modify" command. But is

Authoritative Documentation
I''ve been using backgroundrb for... about an hour now. I must say, I''m impressed. But I''m a bit stumped on where to find the "official" documentation. There''s an API online at backgroundrb.rubyforge.org, but I don''t see the methods available for MiddleMan, etc. Right now, I''m trying to figure out how to get a list of all

Samba help for domain user setup (samba 3.x)
How do I interpret what this mean? @"prfmstrt2+Domain Users" What is prfmstrt2? Is that a group created in /etc/group? I take it the + is a winbind seperator. What is the manner of assigning domain users to have access to a share? Do I still need to create the domain user name in /etc/passwd, assign it to a group in /etc/group? Do I need to use smbgroupedit to make the domain

SUMMARY: hiding Unix perms
Hello, I figured it out, in short, winbind rocks. For some reason, I did not see the point of specifying nss_winbind in /etc/nsswitch.conf. Now that I did that I can use the UIDs/GIDs mapped for my system by winbindd for perms. Using winbind this way eliminates the need to create local Unix accounts :) Awesome. I'm not sure why I didn't realize this before ( maybe because the other

Jarque-Bera and rnorm()
Folks, I'm a bit puzzled by the fact that if I generate 100,000 standard normal variates using rnorm() and perform the Jarque-Bera on the resulting vector, I get p-values that vary drastically from run to run. Is this expected? Surely the p-val should be close to 1 for each test? Are 100,000 variates sufficient for this test? Or is it that rnorm() is not a robust random number generator?

flac worse than shorten ON SOME FILES
had to fix the subject... was getting under my skin! yeah, could you put up the FLAC version of the worst track that is less than 20 megs compressed? (I'll have to grab it with a 56k modem). by worst I mean the one where shorten beats flac by the most. also: 1. what version of shorten are you using? 2. what command-line options for flac and shorten did you use on this track? thanks, Josh
