Hi again, I just wanted to add this to make my information more complete: The id primary group id of user "eddie" in the ldap tree is 500:201. 201 is the group "Domain Users" But you have to know that user "eddie" also excists with id and gid 500:500 in the /etc/passwd and /etc/group files. Samba 3.0-alpha 18 with ldapsam backend and primary gid of user?
Hello list, Can someone tell me why I keep getting these kind of errors in the samba log files? I just went over from 2.2.5 to 3.0-alpha 18, I never had these errors in the 2.2.5 version. Especially the rid [0] is a complete mistery to me since I have no account defined in my ldap service that has rid 0. Thank you very much for your help. Re: Windows NT PDC and Samba PDC cross subnet browsing? (solved)
Hi everyone, I think I solved it: - I installed WINS on both sides on the PDC's (Samba on the one end, NT on the other). - On both subnets the clients are configured by dhcp to use their own PDC's WINS as their primairy WINS server and the WINS on the remote PDC as their "secondairy" WINS server. - TCPIP configuration on the Windows NT PDC configured to use it's own WINS

Migration NT4 PDC to Smb3/LDAP/TOOLS: A Success Procedure
Greetings, After a few weeks trying, I figured out how to migrate from NT4 PDC to Samba-3/LDAP/SMBLDAP-TOOLS, at least in my case. I will just explain my setup and my understanding why it works and why it fails. I hope it is helpful to others who are in the same situation as I was. Basic Setup: OS: Fedora-2 (FC2) samba-3.0.3 that comes with FC2. openldap-2.1.29 that comes

Changing ACLs as administrator
One work-around would be to create a hidden share that only Domain Admins can access. The use "force user=root" on that share. Then you'll be able to change ACL's and not be root. samba security updates broke NT4 DC setup
I've been running a NT4-style domain with a samba 3.x PDC using a LDAP back end and it's mostly worked very will for a long time. However since yesterday, clients are having problems with the domain. I saw that updates came out on all my systems - my PDC and BDC are ubuntu 12.04 LTS. The samba version there still seems to be 3.6x. A client with a problem that was working is Ubuntu

the unusual way ldap -> AD
Hi, (this will be a long post) currently we got a working setup of one PDC in our HQ and five BDC in our branch offices, all backed by LDAP. PDC is LDAP master and all branch offices are configured as syncrepl. This setup was more a playfield for me, which 'suddenly' went into production by business needs, you know the deal... The setup does a fine job, but there is no failover of any

Migrating from NT4 causes profiles not to load
I'm migrating from an NT4 Domain Controller to Samba 3.0.5 And it's mostly working. Users can log on but their desktop profiles don't load. On the NT Server there profile location was just left blank and people had their profiles locally saved. With the new samba server I want to leave it the same for now. The howto says >>A question often asked is: "How may I enforce

ODP: ODP: Joining BDC (Samba) to PDC (Samba)
Normal PDC/BDC isn't possible now. It will be in Samba 3.0 (look in documentation). But you can create substitute solution. For example two idendicaly servers with autocopy of password database, but it isn't PDC/BDC relations. It is two identicaly domains. I have two servers with samba, with two indenticaly password databases and smb.conf. When I have problem with one, I can fastly change
