Samba hanging from time to time
I am having some trouble with Samba. It was working fine on an old server with 3.0.21. Now I have updated to 3.0.28 (via 3.0.25) and a bigger fatter faster server. There are two problems. Firstly the new server seems slower than the old one, and some users are experiencing intermittent data loss via MS apps such as Word or Excell crashing. The system runs on Arch Linux, with a slightly

Folder Redirection broken if access is from ACL only
I have an issue with W2K/XP using Folder Redirection to a Samba homes share (or any share for that matter). This is only a problem when access for a user is via an ACE (ACL) and not the traditional file system permissions. So for example (user is cath in this example): [root@gandalf users]# ll -d cath drwxrwx---+ 5 root root 4096 Apr 15 20:40 cath [root@gandalf users]# getfacl cath # file: cath

Strange file permissions
Hi I have a samba server with tdbsam passwords, and a share, PROJECTS, which is accessed by various XP home clients, the usenames and passwords being manually synced to the samba ones (less than 10 users, and only 4 workstations). There is one win2K machine, which is a domain member. Subdirectories on PROJECTS have g+s set, so only users, who are members of specific Linux groups, have access to

issues with cifs mount
I have a samba 3.0.14a PDC on FreeBSD 6.0-RELEASE. With pam_mount on Ubuntu 5.10 users have their home mounted with mount.cifs. I have 2 issues with this setting. First with the evolution email client, when I pop my mails I have the following error: Cannot append message to mbox file: /home/profs/user1/.evolution/mail/local/Inbox: Permission denied The log.smbd shows: [2006/06/10 08:25:33, 2]

FlashMX creates BAD .swf file on Samba
Hi peoples, I have a Samba Server that has had the same config for over 10 months now (read: never had a problem). Just today, I thought, let's Play with Flash MX, so download I did. Start playing around, and went to test my first movie and it came up blank. Not a flash GURU that I am, I was stumped. Anyway. Saved the flash file to my local C:\ (Oh did I mention the WS is Win2k ;) .. and

Samba logging behavior on new files
Hi list, I have home made program, which uses File Alteration Monitor library to watch samba log files for new file creation in samba share directory. This technique works fine when I use GNU/Linux machine as client and it fails when I use Windows machine as client. The cause of failure is, samba server creates different pattern of logs and sometimes it does not create log entries on new file

Virus checker leaving "chmod of" files in samba log
Hi all, I am running a Samba 3.0.0-14.3E server on a RedHat Enterprise WS3. Here's the problem: When I am connected from my PC (Windows 2000) and run the MacAffee v4.5.1 virus scanner on the connected share, I see the following in the Samba log file (debug level=2) for what appears to be each file in the share: [2004/07/20 13:02:51, 2] smbd/open.c:open_file(250) sullivan opened file

Roaming Profiles won't save
Hello! I am migrating an old Red Hat Samba 3.0.9 server to a new Debian Etch Samba 3.0.23d with an OpenLDAP backend. I've got almost everything working with the new server except the roaming profiles. When a user logs off, Windows complains that the permissions are not correct and the profile can't be saved. I would LOVE to get rid of roaming profiles but that isn't an option

Tracking down random server drops...
I've been fighting with a samba install on top of a amd64 Ubuntu 10.4 system for a couple months now. I have a small flotilla of Windows systems running anything from Win 2000 up through Windows Server 2008. All save for the 2008 systems are setup with nightly NTBackup jobs with my samba server as the destination. The 2008 systems are running MS SQL and use the samba server as the

File locking issue
I have a client with an older server that is running into a weird file locking problem. The server is running FC2, samba 3.0.7 and kernel 2.6.10. They have recently installed AutoDesk Revit, which is apparently some sort of collaborative design software. Revit keeps a central repository and then allows different clients to access it. What is happening is that only the person who created the

Changing ACLs as administrator
One work-around would be to create a hidden share that only Domain Admins can access. The use "force user=root" on that share. Then you'll be able to change ACL's and not be root. Samba corrupting files
Hi all, We use samba here at our site as an interop solution for use with ClearCase. I'm afraid I'm just a lowly ClearCase administrator not a Unix administrator. All our solaris servers are running Solaris 8 and we're using Samba version 2.2.2 First Question : Our Unix Admin guy has said that we can't upgrade our version of Samba as 2.2.2 is the latest version that Sun have

Problem with large files corrupting during transfer
I'm very new to Samba, and I'm supporting my team's migration to a new server. We are running v3.0.23b, ML3 and AIX v5.3, and we're pulling data from NT servers. V2.2.2 (what we are using on the old server) would not compile on the new box, so we have to upgrade. Files >2.8gb are corrupting during the transfer. That 2.8gb file is the largest we've gotten to go through

weird loop selecting print driver from w2k client w/ samba 2.2.5 w/ patches
After uploading the print drivers from w2k and pressing OK or Apply... or selecting this printer from the uploaded drivers and pressing OK and Apply, the printer properties window hourglasses and my machine logs fill up with the messages below. The general idea is, it opens the 15 files that were uploaded for the drivers. Then reopens and closes each one, then closes them all. This process
