force user (S) This specifies a UNIX user name that will be assigned as the default user for all users connecting to this service. This is useful for sharing files. You should also use it carefully as using it incorrectly can cause security problems. This user name only gets used once a connection is established. Thus clients still need to connect as a valid user and supply a valid password. Once

Printing problem, CUPS
Hi, I have a wierd problem regarding printing. I use the CUPS-backend on a debian-box to share printers with samba. Sometimes for no apperently reason, a win-box (XP-home) just can't print after a reboot... and no matter how many reboots the win-box makes it just stops working, and dosen't work until samba is restartet.... and its not a samba crash, because other win-boxes prints

Cups printers. Won't print first page! sometimes not atall.
Hi, I use Samba and cups on my debian-box to share printers, but sometimes, for no apperently reason, windows machines (XP-pro and XP-home), sudently won't print after reboot and this is only solved by a samba restart. Other times the first print after win-reboot, just gets lost, and never apper in the cups-printing log. It's not domain controled, but everyone is mounting their

How do I create a globally accessible directory [partly solved] (XP works/98 doesn't)
I just want a simple, globally accessible directory for anyone on my LAN. I don't care who they are, who they're logged in as on their windows machine, I don't care about security (it's my own private LAN!!!). Why is this so difficult to do? I've looked through the archives (which by the way, could someone spend a few minutes and put a SEARCH feature there. Following threads

Samba 2.2.5-1 BDC
Hi I'm using a Samba 2.2.5-1 PDC on a RH 7.2 everything works fine !! Now I'd like to set up a BDC so, following the Samba-BDC-Howto I've: - synced /etc/passwd /etc/shadow /etc/group /etc/samba/smbpasswd - imported the SID with the -S option of the smbpasswd from PDC - duplicated the shares between PDC and BDC - modified the master domain parameter on the BDC to NO But if I shut down

find_domain_master_name_query_fail(362)
Hi, we have an NT domain that spans multiple subnets so we use WINS. On one of the subnets we are using a linux box (redhat 6.0 with samba 2.0.6). I would like this Linux box to act as a Local Browse Master (LBM) but it just won't work. I get the following entries in the nmb log file: [1999/11/19 15:19:08, 0] nmbd/nmbd_browsesync.c:find_domain_master_name_query_fail(362)

nmbd Hogging CPU on Mac OSX (10.5.4)
Hi All, Firstly, I know this is a MacOS X issue and not sure if you guys can help, but I'm really hoping you can since I don't appear to be getting any joy elsewhere. Running OSX 10.5.4 and recently (last week) nmbd is hogging the CPU. I know this is a part of the Samba server on OSX, hence the post to this mail-list. When I disconnect from the network, nmbd goes away and doesn't

Samba doesn't work after upgrading
I just upgraded my system to Fedora Core 7 from Core 6 and I find that now Samba doesn't seem to be working for me anymore. If I try to connect from my laptop computer running Windows XP I just get one shared folder that has only a few subfolders (probably because offline files is turned on). If I try to connect by using the IP address (\\192.168.0.5) it tells me that it's not accessible

Samba is version 3.0.10 The PC appears in XP OK but it isn't accessible and doesn't show any shares. I've posted the smb.conf and var/log/nbnd.log Thanks Bryan # Samba config file

Why this error? Unable to find Domain Master Browser
Hi. Can someone tell me why I'm getting this error (see below) in my daemon error log every hour? In my smb.conf section, I have my Linux box set to: wins support = yes os level = 65 This message occurs even when all Windows workstations are shut off, so it must be something with my samba configuration on the Linux box. Help appreciated. Regards, Andy Liebman Jul 21 06:54:34

Help troubleshooting "find_domain_master_name_query_fail" on SMB v4?
I'm running smbd -V Version 4.1.0rc2-3.1-3075-SUSE-oS12.3-x86_64 This is a standalone server, and the only SMB/CIFS instance on my LAN. On launch, I see the following "find_domain_master_name_query_fail" error in logs. I can't track down what I've managed to do wrong; pointers appreciated. ==> log.nmbd <== [2013/09/07 16:21:41, 2]

Hello there, From digging the archive - it looks as if this was discussed here earlier however I could not find a decent solution to my problem. samba synchronization of browse lists.
Hello, I just installed samba 2.2.3a on my FreeBSD 4.4 box and am trying to connect to it using my win2ksp2 machine. I've got it set up to be the local master browser in my workgroup for my internal network. However it's not working. I checked the logs and in log.nmbd it's trying to bind to a domain master browser for the browse lists, which i obviously don't have. Is this a new

Accessing Samba share with Win2k
I'm running Samba version 2.07 on Redhat Linux 7.0. After some minor issues with file creation permissions (needed to be 0664) on the Public share, everything works well when accessing the share from my Win98 and WinME computers. Files can created, deleted, etc. at will from these computers. I've recently added a Win2k machine to my network, and from this computer, I have read-only
