my printers are still paused in Win2k and WinNT 4.0
Hello, It seems that I am in printer hell once again :) I am trying to sort out some printer problems with our UNIX server. The basic problem is this. I have a test server to K.I.S.S the problem. On this server I have defined two queues which are csqlis and HPfinley. csqlis seems to work correctly and displays ready. HPfinley always reads Paused on win2k and NT40 clients. The output of the lpq

Tr: RE: Samba 2.2.5 and printers
Ok, I solved the problem by myself. The problem was that the users with wich I tried to connect to the printer where defined as admin users, and I declared root as an invalid user in the samba configuration, so it always give me an access denied because it tried to connect as root. Anyway thanks for the time you waste trying to help me ;-) ----Message r?exp?di?---- >Date: Thu, 27 Jun 2002

Why does the Win2K print monitor say Paused when prin ting?
If you're using LPRng, add :done_jobs=0 to either the .common section or each printer's entry. This will remove the (retained) last job printed, and you won't see it displayed as Paused anymore. It seems that if Samba sees a job in the lpd queue dir that has been printed, but not removed, it shows that job with a status of Paused. LPRng after 3.8.10 defaults to :done_jobs=1, and

2.2.x Printing from Win2k-more clues
I've discovered a couple of things while troubleshooting my printer setup problems. 1. print$ must be 0744. I ran a level-3 debug, and was seeing "chmod failed" errors. Upping it to level-10, I saw something that pointed to unix rights of 0744; my dir's were set to 0755 or 0777...neither worked. When I set print$ and it's subdir's to 0744, the chmod errors went away.

RE: Browsing cont'd
Don't forget to add the #PRE after the host info; that way it preloads it. Create one lmhosts file for the Win boxes, and copy to either \windows (win9x) \winnt\system32\drivers\etc (NT/Win2k/XP) then open a DOS Prompt and type nbtstat -R to flush/refresh the cached info. The samba box's hosts go in /etc, /lmhosts go in /etc/samba (if you're using the current defaults. Put the

old print jobs go away!!
Hello, My name is Shane Drinkwater. I am having some problems with samba and printing. It seems that old print jobs will not leave the printer status screen on my 2000/xp clients. It looks to me that the tdb for the offending printer is not being purged when a print job completes. info Fedora Core 5 X86 Samba 3.0.24 smb.conf [global] #================== remote Annouce Settings

[Shane Drinkwater] Daniel, I have the same probelm. These are the steps I did in a previous thread... Jim, I think I found another bug... I really seem to be in printer hell :(.... I found that windows 2k doesn't update its status "ready" or "paused" when used with samba. Here is what I did... 1.) enable all of the lpr/lpd queues. check em' with lpq... 2.)

Problems with slow printing
Hello, My name is Shane Drinkwater. I have had a problem since samba-3.0.25 with printing being very, very slow. It takes about 15- 30 seconds for the print dialog box to appear. After selecting OK the print happens in a reasonable time. File serving performance seems to be similar to previous revs of samba. I did read the "Problems with slow printing (and name resolving?)" thread. I do

How to set up spooling for a HP JetDirect interface?
I've set up Samba and LPRng for HP printers with JetDirect cards. It works for one user at a time. But if the printer is off-line or busy, the samba client does not get an error message, but the job gets lost. :( I would like the print jobs to be spooled on Linux even when there is an active print job or when the printer is off-line. Unfortunately I'm not familiar with lpd. The

Printing with CUPS & Samba...
I am trying to print from both a Win98 PC via Samba and a Red Hat 8.0 workstation to an HP 4 Plus printer that is connected to a Red Hat 8.0 server. I have managed to get the Win98 PC working OK, but am having difficulty with the RH8 workstation. I set the printer up using a browser with <Server>:631, calling it HP4Plus, and I can send a test print from the browser on the RH8 box via

FIXED - Print jobs hang in Samba, don't go to UNIX spool er
OK, it's working now. I waited until the production lines were undergoing a shift change and brought down all of Samba, then restarted it. Printing now works just fine. I still don't know what caused the problem, I never saw any error messages in the [sn]mbd or client logs, even with the log level turned turned up to 2. Thanks very much for the time and trouble you took to think about

Can tdbtool be installed on it's own?
Hi guys, I have a Netgear ReadyNas that has Samba v3.4.5 installed on it. I'm having trouble accessing some tdb files and I'm wondering whether the app tdbtool can be installed on its own as it seems that Netgear have pulled it out. I have windows domain users who get denied access for no reason and the events aren't being caught my the standard logs. Plus Netgear force the smb.conf
