Whats all this Linux business anyway?
Alright lads, I'm Rick Masters and I know very little about networks, but for some mad reason I have been given the job of setting up a Linux File Server on an NT network. How the dickens does that work? Anyway I need as much help as you can be bothered to give me. And there is a free pizza in it for the guy who helps me get it working :-) You are all super and great fun (I'm sure).

Win2k disconnects mapped samba shares
Hello, I stepped through the archives of this list, but could not find a thread dealing with exactly this problem we are experiencing here. Server HP-UX 10.20 Samba 2.0.6 security = domain deadtime = 500 ... that should be enough The win2k clients map a drive and everything is working fine. after a period of inactivity (about half an hour) win2k somehow disconnects the mapped drive and marks

Preloading WINS registrations
I have a couple of Samba boxes, one of which is dedicated to WINS. The other I dole out anti-virus stuff to 3,500 odd PCs from. This second one will disappear from the WINS server from time to time which is a bit of a pain. I use nmblookup -R -U <wins_ip> <2nd_box_ip> to test for it. All clients are configured as "P" nodes so WINS is a bit essential. To bring it back I

Single File Delete/Directory Listing on Windows ME
Hi; I'm having a really odd problem with some Windows ME stations connected to a Samba server. From a command prompt on the ME stations, I do the following: dir *.* This works as expected, all the files in the directory are displayed. I then do: dir test.txt And I get: General failure reading drive G Abort, Retry, Fail. The directory contains the file, and the file shows up in a full

Using object as literal value in list vector
Hello all , This is a pretty simple question I think but cannot find an answer on the list or in my brain. I would like to iterate through a loop and use a vector of strings to name a number of list elements. For instance #Create vector of strings Et<- c("ACC","RTL","WHL") MeanValues_ <- list("ACC" = 1000, "RTL" = 2000,

Semi-OT: install python package in userspace
CentOS 7 box. As there's no package in any of the repos, we're trying to install scikit-learn in the user's space. It refuses. My late try was, after d/l a .whl from last year, hoping that would work with the numpy package in the regular repos, I did a pip install --user scikit-learn..., and it still seems to want to write to system space: OSError: [Errno 13] Permission denied:

How to reduce size of samba binaries
Hi, I'd like to reduce the size of the samba binaries. smbd for instance is about 1.5 meg, which is way to much if you ask me. Is there a way to create smaller binaries, maybe by compiling differently? thanx, Dennis ===== __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Question about ACL.
Hi, I running samba-3.0.13-1 connect to W2k3, attr-2.4.19 and acl-2.2.27-1. I've a strange problem with ACL settings, following the data structure.I would that user1 could read/write only his personal folder, user1 belongs to domain users and can reach the user folder but he can't see his personal folder. I have tried to run setfacl -b (remove all ACL entries) and setup them again, format

Semi-OT: install python package in userspace
Just had a look at scikit-learn. An issue you have with the current version of this package is that is depends on NumPy (>= 1.8.2). The version of NumPy in CentOS 7 base is 1.7.1. You may need to look at building a Python virtual environment. You can google that ;) On Tue, Apr 10, 2018 at 9:43 AM, Richard Grainger <grainger at gmail.com> wrote: > I created the epypel (Extra Extra

What's different?
Hi, I dont' know why accessing by my client W2k to samba box with ACL settings I can't see the user folders while I can see them without problems by a win98 client. What's the difference listing/browsing folders and files between these two OS? Where I have to look for a solution or What kind of tests I have to do? Thanks. Marco.
