Failed to set socket option error in Samba 2.0.6/Solaris 7
I sent an earlier message asking for help in debugging the cause of this error. I didn't get any response. Today, I set debug level to 10, shutdown and started samba, and waited for the error to occur. The error did re-occur but I have 12460 lines of log to search through. What should I be looking for (I didn't want to send the log to the list)? > Date: Tue, 11 Jan 2000 12:37:48

Bug in rsyncd 2.5.0 while handling config file string values
I compiled and tried rsync 2.5.0 but could not get the server running. loadparm.c:string_set() now calls free() which it did not do in 2.4.6 and this free() tries to free memory that was not allocated with malloc. Here is a gdb run (done after adding return before fork() in become_daemon) which shows where it crashes and what my minimal config file for demonstrating the bug was. The config file

Manual Printer Driver Installations
Hey, I posted a few days ago about how the printer paper sizes are differ from the admin account when they are installed. People at my work are getting pissed at the moment and all they want to do is to be able to change the paper sizes themselves and not have it done at the server Is there a way to do it? I fluked it at one stage and had it working like that, I think I deleted the driver

2.2.6 and printer questions
Hi @all, I have 2 questions about printer driver installation on w2k-client for a samba served printer: 1. If I want to install a driver on w2k workstation, I choose network printer and then can browse the network. If printers are served from a Nt/w2k-server, in my opinion it is not nessesary to double click the netbios name of the Nt/w2k-server to see the shared printers. In this case under

PATCH: Performance improvement for parameterised include path names
I posted last week regarding a bug in the way that smb was re-reading our config files every 60 seconds even though the files were not changing. As a result we had 396 smbd processes trying to read three files at the same moment with the obvious load average. The reason that all the smbd's were running at the same moment is because the smbd's read the config files every 60 seconds

BUG (?) High CPU usage in samba-2.2-cvs
The setup: Downloaded from samba-2.2 branch of cvs as of 9 okt. (also tried 2.okt) installed on a redhat 7.1 2.4.7 i386 system The problem: the smbd process serving a NT 4.0sp6 workstation uses 80+ % cpu smbstatus reveals that the pid is attached as "smbguest" to the IPC$ share. The workstation has opened up another IPC connection at this point. The problem do not show up in

Hi out there again, i just installed Samba-2.2.3a as a PDC on a Solaris-Box (2.6) and encounter Problems with Windows95 Logons. log.nmbd says: [2002/02/25 15:38:52, 1] nmbd/nmbd_processlogon.c:process_logon_packet(69) process_logon_packet: Logon from 10.170.20.8: code = 0x0 And Windows95b states: Invalid parameter. %L substitution...
Quick question for the Samba team, Just wondering if there is a reason that a %L substitution changes the WHOLE string after the substitution to lowercase (in standard_sub_basic)? This was causing me a big headache as I was using a %G later in the string, and this was being translated into a %g... Here's the relevant section of code from lib/substitute.c: case 'L' :

PATCH: 'source environment' param and % token subs for 'netbios name'
Attached please find unified diffs against Samba 2.0.6. I'm hoping that others will find it useful and that it may even find its way into Samba 2.0.7 This patch does two things: - Modifies the handling of the 'netbios name' parameter so that standard_sub_basic() is run on its value when the 'netbios name' parameter is processed. This has to be done this way because

Failed to set socket option problems Samba 2.0.6/Solaris 7
I am seeing the following errors under Samba 2.0.6/Solarisy 7. I saw discussions of this on the Samba list but couldn't find any resolution. I saw the following message from Jeremy Allison > Message-ID: <387B949C.B499EC9C@valinux.com> > Date: Tue, 11 Jan 2000 12:37:48 -0800 > From: Jeremy Allison <jeremy@valinux.com> > Subject: Re: Error when

How can I make the Norwegian chars ø:Ø valid???
Hi I'm wondering if anyone could help me out with this problem that is really bugging me. I've set up samba alright, and it working perfect except for one little detail that I noticed the other day. I tried to copy a filname with the nowegian char ?, over to a samba share, then it turned into an o. I then checked out the other norwegian chars, and they're working ok. So I dont't

Configuring password expiration with SAMBA
I have been researching this for some time and have run into nothing but walls. My local LUG has basically told me this won't work or at least that no-one in the group has gotten it to work. I am trying to setup some SAMBA servers to replace some NT and Novell servers but I have been informed, by higher powers, that I must be able to do password aging with whatever I setup (like passwords

It goes out of the window, or it stays in windows
I have installed RedHat Linux 7.2 and tried to get Samba working. I have tried a lot, but I keep bouncing the fact that on the linuxserver it is not possible to lookup itself using: nmblookup linuxserver. All other machines in the network are ok. I can find them through the nmblookup easy. Broadcast is ok, subnet mask brought back to 255.255.255.0, in fact it seems that all is in place as I have

Solution: Samba-2.2.3a and Win95?
Hi out there, i got a very good hint to the solution of the problem with the error-message: 2002/02/25 15:38:52, 1] nmbd/nmbd_processlogon.c:process_logon_packet(69) process_logon_packet: Logon from 10.170.20.8: code = 0x0 The hint was from Demerson Zounar: > I faced this problem some time ago, and the solution was an absence of the > parameter netbios name in smb.conf.

Refresh Script...
Not to many days ago, somebody posted a "refresh" script that I believe allowed you to refresh samba without dropping currently connected users. If this is correct, could someone repost please? I seem to have misplaced my copy and now need it fairly bad. Thanks, Wade Winright "Build a better mantrap, and the rats will beat a path to your door..." -Neil Fallon

HSM devices and FreeBSD
I am essentially asking the same question that Eirik Overby asked a couple of years ago. Is anyone aware of PCI-X/PCIe hardware security modules that are supported on FreeBSD? I have not seen any on the FreeBSD hardware compatibility lists. Again, as Eirik noted in his question, HSMs are not simply crypto accelerators (which are supported on FreeBSD), they also are a means of storing keys
