samba4 anonymous ldap search
Hi, I found some discussion here in 2010 about allowing/disallowing anonymous ldap access in samba4, however, nothing much recent comes up. I see that my samba4 does not allow anonymous access. Is there a way to enable it in samba4, like the way we had it with samba3/openldap? (we restricted access to sensitive info, but allowed anon search access to many user details like mail addresses,

Samba & (anonymous) LDAP Authentication
I am trying to things up to allow a *few* select users on a small number of MS-Windows boxes to write to a couple of directories on a Linux server. Most of the users on the MS-Windows boxes will only have anonymous (guest) read-only access to one directory and anonymous (guest) access to the printers. The Linux server primarily is a PXEBoot and NFS server for a group of diskless Linux

smbpasswd + ldap questions
I would like to have sync'd Unix and Samba passwords. My Unix passwords are stored in OpenLDAP for uniformity across machines and services. I have some problems with the standard solutions to this problem though: * if I have Samba authenticate from OpenLDAP directly (using the smbPassword attribute), then I get sync'ing problems when the password is changed via normal Unix means. Any way to use Samba 2.2 with OpenLDAP directory using Samba 3 schema?
I'm in the process of upgrading OpenLDAP from 2.0 to 2.2 and many Samba servers from 2.2 to 3.0 over the course of several weeks. I have a test setup using Samba 3 against OpenLDAP 2.2 with the Samba 3 schema. I would like to be able to point all my existing Samba 2.2 servers at the new directory while they wait their turn to be upgraded. I see that Samba 2.2 allows me to specify an

"Temporary authentication failure" ? Cant connect with ldap user
Is there a good, foolproof dovecot-openldap tutorial that walks you through the steps and works with the newest version of both softwares? Samba unable to bind to LDAP server
I've spent the last several days trying to get Samba to bind to our OpenDirectory server for user authentication with no success. Whenever I try start Samba, it complains that the connection to the LDAP server failed with invalid credentials. I am authenticating other services against the LDAP server through NSS, so I am a bit at a loss as to why Samba won't run. I'm also a bit at a

Samba4 as a "plain LDAP" server?
This is probably an insane question, but I'm going to ask it anyway... Does Samba4's embedded LDAP server also support being used as an ordinary (*nix-style) LDAP authentication server, at least for simple, basic use cases? Or is it necessary to have the OpenLDAP backend running to handle normal LDAP authentication?

I've been using Samba 2.x authenticating UNIX and Samba users to OpenLDAP 2.0.x fro quite some time. Now I need to upgrade OpenLDAP to 2.2.x and Samba to 3.0.x. Although I've been using OpenLDAP with the old samba schema to authenticate Samba users, I did not have a PDC set up. Now when I try to use the convertSambaAccount script to move to the new Samba schema it says "You

samba4 anonymous ldap search
I'm using Version 4.1.0pre1-GIT-e4218e4 samba4 server. It allows nicely anonymous ldap searches, latest versions does not allow that. I have followed Microsofts kb326690 and kb320528 guides, but it seems not helpful. Is the anonymous ldap possible anymore? regards Hannu
