winXP sp1 seems to break roaming profiles on samba3
I applied sp1 and get a message saying that the
"a server copy of the profile exists that does not have the correct
security. Either the current user or the Administrator's group must be
the owner of the folder."
the owner of the profile is correct...
It works again when I re-image back to pre sp1
there is an event in the security log saying...

Hi,
I'm trying to run samba 2.2.6 + OpenLDAP as user/group
database ( not /etc/passwd). nss_ldap+pam_ldap is installed and
working OK, as I can login using ssh, or trough

But trying to connect to samba, when samba is ran as

Samba4 - WinXP rpc server unavailable
Hi,
I have a test environment with Samba4 on Ubuntu 11.04 (alpha15 package),
and a little problem around the joining to the domain from my WinXP SP3
machine.
I followed the official Samba4 Howto, then my configuration steps was these:
- Install smb4 from ubuntu package
- setup provisioning, created a testdom.mycorp.local
- setup bind9 with gssapi (everything working fine)
- test

RPC Server Unavailable Message
Try to give your samba server another NetBIOS hostname than localhost and comment out the lines with server services and dcerpc endpoint servers.
Check your DNS back end. For now it seems due to your smb.conf that you are not using the samba internal DNS server. It's not a must have, but samba does not provide dns. NetBIOS name should be equal to your DNS hostname.
After that restart samba

RPC Server Unavailable Message
From what I thought I did, I named the domain avalon.local. That's
what the computers will join to. What does the netbios name have to do
with the DC?
With folder redirection I end up getting a name like
\\localhost.avalon.local\Users\blahblah
How much chance of messing up things is there if I run the rename script?

'RPC Server is Unavailable' when updating GPO
I failed to mention this morning I restarted the samba server and that error
did not come up once I ran 'Group Policy Update..'. But after a few minutes
the RPC error returned. Figure this could be a samba issue as it was working
on restart. The client is part to the Domain and able communicate with samba
via ping. And i am still able to add additional machines to the Domain
regardless of

RPC server unavailable?
I have a Samba 4.1.6 up and running(?)
When I try to join the AD, I get 'RPC server is unabailable.'
This also happens when I try the Microsoft Remote Administration tools,
I get the same issue.
The samba, smbd, and auth logs don't seem to provide the answer I need,
but that may only mean I can't see it.
The workgroup server works fine.
I have spent hours online and in the samba

The RPC server is unavailable
I added a new test user and it worked until I added the user to the
"domain admins" group. Once there, it also started getting the
NT_STATUS_INVALID_SID error message.
It seems like the group is corrupted somehow.
Any ideas on how to fix this? Can I reset or recreate a system group
like Domain Admins?
Kind regards,
