ExcludeProfileDirs and broken roaming profiles
Hi, since rolling out roaming profiles, some user profiles are growing very fast. I like to keep the profiles small and think about changing ExcludeProfileDirs default settings in Software\Microsoft\Windows NT \CurrentVersion\Winlogon by System Policies to remove caches, cookies, recent and other "useless" stuff. Which paths could be excluded without "killing" the benefits

Windows 10 with Samba PDC and Roaming profiles
Hello, I'm using an openSUSE server with Samba Version 4.1.18-3.33.2-3407 and Windows 7 Professional clients for years without problems. Now I have 5 PC with a freshly installed Windows 10 Professional on it. On the Windows 10 machines I only changed the two registry keys[1] and set up the switch "max protocol = nt1" in "/etc/samba/smb.conf" on the server side. I could

trouble saving files to network shares in win2k
I am having some trouble saving some files to a network share after they have been opened for a few minutes. My case in point is I have samba 2.2.4 setup on redhat 7.3 as a PDC and win2k clients. I have the users saving their outlook.pst to their home directory (H:) and not in their profile. The outlook files are all over 150 meg so trying to save some bandwidth. The users can open outlook,

Outlook and roaming profiles?
Hi list, I'm trying to migrate from a workgroup based Samba server to a domain based Samba server. I need the following features - Roaming profiles - LDAP based user administration / authentication I think the LDAP part is mostly doable, though I do foresee some hair tearing, but my main concern is with the roaming profiles. Users do not have a fixed workstation and log-on to whichever

XP load roaming profile only after reboot
Hello, I have a problem with Samba 2.2.5 and Win XP roaming profiles. All works fine. XP load the profile from the server at login and stores them on the server at log out. But if the user logs in twice, XP does not load the profile from the server, it uses its local profile also if the profile on the server is newer. After a reboot XP loads the server profile once again. If I disable local

Microsoft outlook or outlook express and roaming profiles
Hi all, we are using samba 2.2.6 with windows xp SP1, and roaming profiles. We would like to have email settings (servers/usernames etc) with the roaming profiles, but outlook (either microsoft, or express) store their settings in a path that is not included in the profiles we do not care about the actual emails, since the mailserver is IMAP, we only care about settings Has anybody

Outlook XP/2002 with Samba
Please help, We've searched high and low for a solution, but nothing. We're upgrading our Office 2000 to Office XP on Metaframe 1.8/NT TSE. We use a Samba 2.0.7 and 2.2.2 on Solaris 2.6 and 2.8 respectively. Both are disallowing the user to write to their outlook.pst file. What's more, we can compact the PST file, but ONLY OUTSIDE of outlook (example, right clicking on properties

AW: Big problem with roaming profiles
I had the same problem. We used samba 3.0.14 and upgraded to 3.0.20 After that profile were not loaded anymore. Th problen you are discribing looks like Windows is loading the local copy of your profile and after you deleted it it tries to load the profile from samba and fails. I found out that we had problems with "profile acls = Yes" wich was needed by the earlier samba releases.

Besides: Roaming profiles on a small network
Hi all, I don't know if it's of interest... when we were using home or profile shares with outlook.pst files, we had massive trouble with either shares breaking away or *.pst files getting corrupted. I can't tell the difference between shares of the [home]/[profile] sections and standard shares [<...>] but we fixed the problem by setting up individual user shares (one user ==

Slow logoff with roaming profiles (Answers!)
I've found that with roaming profiles enabled, some users experience extremely slow logoffs when using NT/XP/2000. I've discovered that this is usually due to very large email folders in the user's profile. OUTLOOK: As Outlook saves ALL messages in a single .pst file, any activity in Outlook will result in the .pst file being changed and therefore needing to be synchronized with the

Outlook .pst files on Samba PDC
Occasional problems arise where the .pst file just will not copy from the users profile on the server. Doesn't seem to be related to the file size. Has anyone had issues with outlook and Samba PDC - (win2k clients). Solutions that have worked have ranged from complete loss of the .pst file to restarting users profile from scratch. thanks Alex Genna

Roaming profiles not being loaded
I tried to build a setup to model and hence learn how to configure samba servers for the setup that I described below. However, a user login in which the profile is defined to be on a samba server that is not the PDC never gets a roaming profile -- instead the user always gets a temporary profile. Looking at the Windows logs, it is complaining about a permissions issue. However, once logged in

Roaming Profiles - the next step
Thanks to the enthuiastic help of Mr. Dan Shearer and the excellent writings of John H. Terpstra (Samba-3 by Example) I have migrated an NT4 PDC to Samba 3.0.14a-2 on Fedora Core 4 (Cries of amazement) The clients (XP, NT4WS, Win2K, 98 and 95) didn't notice the switch (once I had made all the correct folders!) My questions now are fine tuning and filling in gaps in my Windows knowledge.

FW: Outlook .pst on a samba share; do or don't?
I'm running a new (6 months old) fast server, with an ultra-scsi RAID array . . . some of my workstations, however, are getting elderly: some are 5 year old 350Mhz machines, and my users are finding it faster to put their .pst files on their Samba-shared Linux home directories. (50 users, .pst files from 100mb to 1.5Gb). (yes, yes, I know, 1.5GB is WAY too big for a .pst file; its a constant

Fwd: RE: Outlook.pst corrupt (Rashkae)
My problem is not the the restore or re-creataion of outlook.pst but is to understand why outlook.pst is corrupted when I open OUTLOOK-2000 or 98 ecc. I have this problem only when I use samba (2.2.5) on HP-UX 11. In other company I have server linux (RH 7.3) with samba and 20 PC that have all your files and mail-files (outlook ecc.) saved in share-directory in linux-server but in this
