SAMBA doesn't like me anymore :(
Hi All, Okay, SAMBA officially doesn't like me or something. Here's the poop: - Brand-new FreeBSD 4.7 box - SAMBA 2.2.6pre2 (built from the ports tree) - I have dual NICs, one on 192.168.1 (students) the other on 192.168.2 (staff) - I need two operational workgroups "STUDENTS" & "STAFF" each tied to their own interface. - This machine needs to do all the

load balancing CIFS/Samba
Hi Folks, I'm trying out some ideas for loadbalancing Samba servers with some replication underneath. Right now, we're trying to use DNS round robin, just to see if it works, but it isn't. Our basic config is that we have the same share and NMB server name on every node. Each node has a different IP hostname, which are all round-robin'ed to a single hostname. When we try to

samba multiple instances
Hi ! I want to run 2 samba instances on my linux server. the server has 2 ip adresses and i made 2 different smb.conf`s (2 different netbios-names/workgroups bound to specific interfaces - params "interfaces" , "bind interfaces only" and "socket address") furthermore i cloned the start/stopscripts (cp smb/nmb to smb2/nmb2) to use that different smb.conf`s. but that

DNS Proxy - WINS problem - please help
Here is my scenario when a client wants to resolve a name on my local network: CLIENT --> VPN --> SAMBA --> DNS The client is set up like so: DNS1 = ISP DNS1 (204.26.64.1) DNS2 = ISP DNS2 (204.26.80.3) WINS1 = my samba1 (10.10.1.5) WINS2 = my samba2 (10.10.1.8) This all _seemed_ to have worked 3 days ago for roughly 6 months but stopped suddenly without me doing anything. After upgrade to 4.9.4, internal DNS no longer working
The two systems I'm referring to are on different domains, different locations. No connection whatsoever except me being the one administering both. According to oEMInformation the server was provisioned by 4.3.3. I just checked the Samba log file and it seems that version 4.7.4 was running before the update. I'm now looking at the logs right before the upgrade and indeed, there have

Samba 4.1.6 huge security flaw
Hi all, I've been running Samba 4.1.6 in production for 2 weeks now and it's been great. However I noticed a huge security flaw today that I hit only once. I access Samba4 shares over the VPN that is irrelevant since the security access is user-based, not IP based. What happens right after the connection, Windows tries to read the shares and some are empty, but they are not supposed to

After upgrade to 4.9.4, internal DNS no longer working
I was too quick to send my previous email. It can't really be a problem of the package since I have, as mentioned, another system with the exact same setup and the exact same package versions and it all works there... Samba pid in uninterruptible state
Greetings, I recently upgraded Samba on an Ubuntu 14.04.2 server from version 4.1.9 to 4.2.3. Upon rebooting Samba process goes into a running state then after a short time it will go into an uninterruptible state. If I check the log.samba, it appears that it is attempting to start, then hangs at the following: [2016/06/23 15:16:00.329503, 3] ../source4/param/share.c:124(share_register)

Distribution: Debian 8.5 Samba-Distribution: sernet-samba 4.3.11-14 The replication on dc2 working fine without any failures. But the synchronization on dc1 gives the failure "WERR_BAD_NETPATH". Because the message "BAD_NETPATH" I checked the DNS-resolution:

intermitent domain logon failures
I have an issue where at odd times, maybe after 3 days, maybe after a week, people suddenly cant do domain logons. Unfortunately the machine is 50km away so i'm sure theres more details I can glean once I can interogate the users a bit more. Things I have noticed: Anyone currently logged in can still work fine. A restart of samba fixes the issue (till it hapens next). ps ax shows smbd and

How do I permit NT Administrator to manage ACL's on s amba file server
It has been my experience that only the owner of the file and root change change ACLS on that file. Since you've stated that Administrator IS the owner, maybe there's something else. Are you getting any errors ? Who is the owner of the diretory that the folder resides in. Is the Administrator given write permissions at the share level? My work-around for modifying ACL's was to
