Unable to get proper ext3 functionality in recompiled 2.4.18-18.7.x kernel
I am trying to find out where to go in regards to problem mentioned in subject line. Maybe you can offer some advice or, if not, then maybe redirect to another organization or web site. I have been installing just about every new release of the kernel that has come out for RH 7.2. I have always recompiled these to a customized version for my Tyan s1598/K6-III system. I do this so that only

port usage
Our Client software used samba protocol,If there is no firewall case , this protocol work properly from remote site. All of firwall configuration open ( this mean is all of port open ). Samba work very well, but if some constrain put in, it doesn't work. 1)I would like to know about port usage of samba protocol. I think snmpd, nmpd daemon used some port number. i can see /etc/service file.

Module.symvers
I am going into: /usr/src/kernels/2.6.18-92.1.10.el5-x86_64 and doing a "make mrproper" attempting to rebuild the Modules.symvers file. As I added ALSA 1.0.17 to the current kernel. I am getting an error: make mrproper scripts/Makefile.clean:17: /usr/src/kernels/2.6.18-92.1.10.el5-x86_64/drivers/infiniband/hw/amso1100/Makefile: No such file or directory make[3]: *** No rule to

Xen 3.1.0 initrd and kernel building
Hi, had a few problems with using xen: First: built a xen from source (tgz) and make dist ... then made initrd with mkinitrd and modules=all in the mkinitrd.conf -> initrd.img was 14mb and set it up in the grub with module /initrd.... on boot it loads the initrd like: Loading ramdisk into ram .... done but then NO MODULES in the initrd are being loaded by the kernel, though initrd

btrfs: sdb1 checksum verify failed
Hi, I've created an test enviroment for btrfs 0.11. The aim of the test is to compare speed of btrfs to ext3, reiserfs, jfs, xfs, etc. I've created an 70 GB partition for btrfs, created btrfs filesystem on it, which is currently mounted under /data. I put the kernel source tree of Linux 2.6.24 to the btrfs, make allyesconfig, and i've created the following script: while true; do

kbuild: clean a bit better
kbuild: better cleaning Let make clean delete generated dot-files and .o files. Introduce distclean/mrproper that deletes .config, linux symlink and all files left behind by editors and patch. Signed-off-by: Sam Ravnborg <sam@ravnborg.org> --- Hi Peter In following patch I did not make a difference between mrproper and distclean. I only added mrproper because I'm used to it from the

Problem at compiling zaptel
Hi all! Can anybody please give me some advice, what is wrong at my first try to compile Asterisk. I have successfully downloaded the sources from CVS, but now the next step at zaptel " clean; make install" fails. Please have a look at the error-log below. There must be a fundamental mis-configuration I suppose, but I am unfortunately not an expert in this area. Franz ------ error

Trying to find all the kernel modules needed for my machine using shell script
Hi, I'm developing kernel modules right now, and the build times are starting to get under my skin. As a side effect i'm taking way too many "coffee" breaks during builds. So i was looking for a way to build only the stuffs i need for my platform. Chapter 7 and 8 of "linux kernel in a nutshell" gave a good detail of how to do that by hand. Its a good read :

ext3 mount problem after upgrading kernel
Hi, I use RH 7.2 (the download version) with kernel 2.4.9-13 (upgraded by using the Up2date program). Today i used Up2date (version 2.7.11) to upgrade to 2.4.9-21 (kernel, headers and source). I get the following error while the new kernel is booting: EXT3-fs: unable to read superblock mount: error 22 mounting ext3 pivotroot: pivot_root (/sysroot, /sysroot/initrd) failed: 2 Of course this

[PATCH] Never clean files in quilt status directory
The top-level "distclean" and "mrproper" targets delete zero-size files in the source, perhaps assumed to be stamp files. This is fine for actual source direcgtories, but disastrous for a quilt status directory. For each patch, quilt stores the previous versions of the modified files in a subdirectory of .pc. If the patch creates a file, this file will be empty. Removing it

[patch 00/12] ipconfig and nfsmount compatibility with glibc
Hi, The following set of patches is intended mostly to improve ipconfig and nfsmount compatibility with glibc. The context: I'm working on yaird, an alternative to mkinitrd, and currently implementing nfs root file systems. This is based on ipconfig and nfsmount from klibc, with a rewritten version of kinit. Users should be able to build the package with vanilla glibc, since klibc is not

xeno-1.2.bk compilation question?
The system is Mandrake-9.1 Linux wih gcc-3.2.2. I am trying to compile xenolinux-2.4.24 (with vanilla sources from ftp.kernel.org for linux-2.4.24). The steps of mkbuildtree ARCH=xeno make menuconfig ARCH=xeno make dep produce no errors, but ARCH=xeno make bzImage results in following error messages. Any pointers will be appreciated. -ishwar --- gcc -D__KERNEL__
