UNIX -> WinNT Username/Password Synchronization Revisited!
Hello all! Brief Scenario: We use a home grown "Accounts Registration Server" (ARS) to create, track, modify and delete required accounts (via a secure TCP connection) on various host computers (currently only OpenVMS and Digital UNIX servers). We currently use a DUNIX box as the primary student POP3 mailserver (which also runs SAMBA). Account registrations (approx 30,000) are

Keeping local Profiles in WinNT and W2K
Yesterday I moved my LAN domain from a W2K server to Samba and I have problems logging on to my WinNT 4 machine using local profiles. My boss's computer is a freshly installed W2K and it had no problem at all with the change. My computer is a WinNT4 SP 6 and when I tried to log on with my user it said it couldnt find the profile and logged me off immediately. I used to have a roaming

error compiling R-1.3.1 from source on WinNT
Dear R-help, I have encountered some errors when trying to compile R-1.3.1 from source on my WinNT4SP6 laptop (PII w/128MB RAM). I have installed all the tools following the instruction in src/gnuwin32/INSTALL, with the exception that the mingw compiler I have might be a bit older (they are the ones recommended for R-1.3.0, I believe). I have also compiled the ATLAS libraries from source using

Wine and WinNT wine.conf dumb question
Hi, I've just installed Wine 20010305 on a box with SuSE 7.1 (kernel 2.4.2) and Win NT4.0. I previously ran wine with no problems under SuSE 7.0. Now when I try to start wine I get the error: Invalid path 'C:\winnt' for windows directory: does not exist. This is using the same wine.conf file as before. Here are the relevant lines from the wine.conf file: [Drive C]

Urgent - Password Migration from WINNT 4.0 to Samba-LDAP
Hi, I am working on migrating WINNT 4.0 Domain to Samba. User information is being stored in LDAP. I have done test migration and works fine. I can migrate users, groups and machine accounts. But, after migrating I have seen that it does migrate sambaLMPassword,sambaNTPassword fields but it does not migrate userPassword(unix password) field. For all my users, in the user password field, it has

Win 9x and WinNT Clients connecting to Samba-Server
Hello, I know I should get rid of the problem by my own, but unfortunally I failed. So I ask: I`ve a subnet of win9x and WinNT clients connecting to our Linux file server (no more servers in this subnet) via samba 2.02. All win95 can see and mount services of the Samba server. But win98 and WinNT can only see the server but can not connect to a service. I`ve no encryption and security= user in

Call for help with Samba Printing and WinNT
Hi [Samba]s This is a call for some generous people to try out the process of installation of a Samba printer on WinNT and WinNT Terminal Server Edition. I am working through Kurt Pfeifle's HOWTO on Printing and CUPS printing in Samba 3.0, and finding some issues with NT/TSE. It would be good if we had some confirmation or otherwise of these problems so that Kurt can update his HOWTO (this is

Howdy, I'm trying to see my Samba shares from my Linux box on my WinNT machine. I can see the Linux box in the Network Neighborhod, but clicking on it just gets the old "remote computer not available". I've got RedHat 6.0 on the Linux box. I can ping the Linux box, I can FTP/Telnet to it, and it's my email server and I have no probl Content-Type: multipart/alternative;

Cannot access Samba through Win2000 or WinNT Server but can from WinNT Workstation?
Hi all, I have Samba 2.2.2 running on a Linux 7.1 box. 4 machines connected to a WinNT Server via a hub. The 4 machines are WinNT Server, WinNT Workstation, Win2000 and Linux running Samba Server. With Samba running (see testparm for samba configuration details) I can logon and access files on the Linux machine using the WinNT Workstation but cannot access the Samba server using the WinNT Server

Lotus Notes under WinNT 4.0
Hello! I'm trying to run Lotus Notes (installed on another partition, Win NT 4.0) under SuSE Linux 7.2. So far I got Wine release 20011108. If I run wine --winver nt40 --debugmsg +loaddll \\ /windows/c/Programme/Lotus/Notes/notes.exe a Lotus opening window shows shortly and then on a mouseclick it does nothing or produce a memory error. It seems to have problems with ole32.dll:

NetBIOS name resolution question [WinNT]
Hi all, This isn't exactly a Samba question, but it relates closely to NetBIOS over TCP and I figure a lot of people on this list would be clued up on this topic. Any help would be most gratefully received! I have two WinNT machines sitting on a network (they're the only ones on the network in this instance). They are configured with a basic hosts file (as in "/etc/hosts")

samba3 with ldap: connections from WinXP and smbclient 3 are OK, but not from WinNT and smbclient 2
Hello, please excuse if this question was asked before, but I wasn't able to find an answer for my problem in the list archive nor (with google) on a website. Here is my problem: I use Samba 3 from Debian/unstable together with ldap. The ldap-server is a NDS Server (Novell directory service/eDirectory). Authentication works well - with the smbclient of samba 3.x - from Windows2000 with

smbd timed out kills WinNT application
Hi, Probably this problem is known and has already been discussed in this group, but I did not find any hints in the archive nor in the package description. On a PII/400/256MB RAM I am running SuSE 5.3 with smbd 2.0.2. Unfortunately, sometimes the WinNT client seems to loose its connection which crashes a WinNT application (SolidWorks) if the latter wants to save a project. (This happened 8

security=server, port 445 and winnt
Hi folks, I'm running several samba servers that use "security= server" and "password server" to point authentications to a WinNT pdc. Snooping at the network traffic, I find that the samba server initially tries to connect to the WinNT server through port 445 (which fails), then reverts to 139 (which succeeds). I know it's possible to use the "samba
