Login script doesn't run - Solved
I hate being stupid. Here is the answer: This won't work: [global] logon script = %U.bat # Win9x needs this This will work: [global] # Win9x needs this logon script = %U.bat The comment has to be on it's own line. Thanks to all for trying to help. Bob Crandell (bob@assuredcomp.com) wrote*: > >Hi, >The login script has worked for our win98 computers

Login script doesn't run
Hi, The login script has worked for our win98 computers since the dawn of time (or there abouts). Then something happened or I did something and the login script doesn't run anymore. I can run it manually. This was version 2.2.3a. I started smbd with -d10 and didn't see any call for a script. Is the login script mentioned in a working system? In an effort to fix this, I deleted and

Samba and Linux users
Hi, I have 2 clients that have expressed an interest in switching some users to Linux workstations as a test to see if they can avoid paying some of the Micro$oft tax. They will be sharing Word and Excel data. I'll be installing OpenOffice to begin with. Maybe they might be interested in Gnumeric later. My question is how to tell either Linux or Samba or both to allow any user to

Net use doesn't
Hi, I have a situation that causing premature gray. All printers are connected to HP JetDirects. A test print from Linux prints. Sometimes a test print from Win98 works, usually it gets a spool32 error and I have to reboot the workstation. No NT machine can print. There are NT 4 and Win2K machines. When I setup a printer, it doesn't configure a port. In Win98, I can add a port in printer

Weird file copy
Hi, One of my clients is trying to backup a Redhat client/server accounting database to a Windows computer and one 2K file refuses to copy. I've set up a cron job that unloads the server, copies the files to another location and restarts the server. An hour later, the Windows backup starts up and runs successfully until it reaches this file, then it just hangs. No errors, it just stops.

FAX Server
Hi, Every once in awhile the subject of faxing through Samba comes up and there are some really interesting solutions offered. Here we go again. My question is more related to hardware. What modems are the successful Samba faxers using these days? Though to software works fine, the hardware leaves a something to be desired. Thanks. -- Bob Crandell Assured Computing When you need to be sure.

It turns out this all happened because of a brand new network switch. We put
the old one back in out of desperation and, BAM, all the problems went away. There were no other symtoms that pointed at that switch so we didn't suspect it all. Win98 troubles
Hi, I have a client with 2 Win98 out of 15 computers that refuse to see the server when they first turn them on in the morning. When they logon as a new user, not a reboot, it connects and they work fine for the rest of the day. They can even reboot whenever they want throughout the day and it works, but when they turn it off over night, the computers refuse to see the domain the next morning.

Win2K sp4 can't print
Hi, I just installed 2 Win2K sp4 workstations on an otherwise working Samba 2.2.8a network and 2 of the 3 printers are showing "Access denied". What's up with that? The other computers that are working just fine are Win98, XP and Win2K NOT sp4. Here is part of the global section: printing = bsd load printers = yes disable spoolss = yes printcap name

copy a large volume of data from PC to samba server
Hi there, Is there someone over there knows a method or script that can copy a large volume of data (in folders) from PCs to a samba server (suppose there is enough space there)? I know using smbclient or smbtar can backup data on PCs to samba server, but it is written in tar files.I wonder whether this method can handle a large folder, say, in 10GB size. Also, using smbclient with mget and

Win 98 loosing it.
Hi, One of my friends came to me with a problem I've heard of before but haven't found an answer yet. Her situation is a Windows network with a mixture of Win XP and Win 98 computers. There are 4 98 machines of which 2 are giving her, and now me, fits. Seems these 2 loose their drive mappings after about 5 - 10 minutes of idle time. They work fine as long as the user is actively doing

Logon scripting for W95/98
All, As some of have no doubt found out, scripting is subtly different on 95/98 machines and NT machines. I have a logon script called by: logon script = xxxx\main.bat %G %U that works great for NT boxen. However it does absolutely nothing, no execution of main.bat at all for a W98 client. If I remove the parameters so it is: logon script = xxxx\main.bat it executes on the W98 box,

Samba + Abacus Law anyone?
I'm attempting to install Abacus Law (v13) under Samba and Linux. Install completes, and I get as far as a single user successfully logged in, but the 2nd user is nothing but trouble. Samba logs show nothing unusual to my semi-trained eye, but locking code or timing is a likely suspect. Technical support is of no help as they haven't tested (and therefore don't support) the

Logon Script Doesn't
Hi, I've finally been dragged kicking and screaming into the wonderful world of XP. I've been able to join a domain and login with the help of the docs on samba.org and gleaning info from this list. Google and I don't get along. My question is How do I get the logon script to run when XP logs in? Win 98 doesn't have a problem running the logon script. Here is part of the

roaming profiles on win98
We have 20-30 computers here with win98 and a Linux/Samba Server. We have just implemented Samba PDC. The only problem I see is if we change passwords on a computer..that changes on that workstation and on Samba and Unix. Now, if the user goes to another computer they have their old password on the other computer and new one on Samba. So, would roaming profiles help me...what i want to do is
