Problem in e2fsck ? read error in journal inode
Hi I'm experiencing some problems on a harddisk (it has crashed for no known reason), and in pursuit of getting some of the data out of the disk I'm learning to use the e2fs progs package. Origianlly I used version 1.38, but after experiencing segfaults in e2fsck -which now is solved, I upgraded to 1.39, but now I have hit another problem (on another partition): The partition was

How To Recover From Creating >2TB ext3 Filesystem on MSDOS Partition Table?
(I've already sent this message to Ted Ts'o directly. I should have sent it to this list first but I didn't know about it until today. My apologies to Ted.) Last Friday a system that I just inherited refused to mount a file system that had been working fine for about 6 months. This is on a Scientific Linux 4.3 system using a 2.6.9 kernel. This is another Linux distribution based on

Capturing Quicktime Files into a Samba Share
I'm hoping somebody can explain why I'm having this peculiar problem capturing quicktime video files with Final Cut Pro (running on OS X 10.3.4) and storing them on my Linux server. The Linux server has both Samba 3 and Netatalk 1.6.4. I have the server set up so that I can connect from the Mac to various Linux directories using either Samba or Netatalk. When I connect with

Netatalk Support?
Reply-To: Hi When configuring samba there is an option to turn on netatalk-support. I did this, because we need to see the shared on both windows and mac, but I couln't see any difference in sambas behaviour. Netatalk stored the ressource-fork, and some files the Mac-Finder created in Directories calles ".AppleDouble". I hoped, that with netatalk-support samba would handle those

Call for testers w/ using BackupPC (or equivalent)
For a while now, I've been receiving complaints from users who have been using BackupPC, or some other equivalent backup progam which functions by using hard links to create incremental backups. (There may be some people who are using rsync to do the same thing; if you know of other such backup programs with such properties, please let me know.) BackupPC works by creating hard link trees, so

Testing kernel and xfs/netatalk
I recently took over a x86_64 CentOS 4.0 server running an "unsupported" kernel. On examining the box it seems that perhaps it is because of the use of xfs and netatalk. I would like to update the box to 4.3. I think I can do away with the netatalk, but doing away with xfs would require a substantial amount of work. Questions: 1: In reading the archive of this list there was a post

Error copying files with extended attributes to Windows clients
I just upgraded to 4.7.1 to fix an unrelated bug with deleting directories for OS X clients, and it looks like this bug has been fixed too. I re-enabled ea support, and copies work. It does look like some attrs are lost in the process, but that's probably because they are larger than some NTFS limit? getfattr vlc-2.2.2.dmg # file: vlc-2.2.2.dmg user.com.apple.diskimages.fsck

Xen4CentOS6 project longevity
We've been using CentOS 5 with Xen on our machines for a while now and have really grown to appreciate it. The lack of Xen for Centos 6 is the reason we haven't upgraded yet, but with Xen4CentOS6 we have all the tools we need. The concern some of are having is that when CentOS7 comes out, which will be probably less than a year, is that Xen support for CentOS6 will evaporate. I know this
