Cross Subnet Browsing.
hi,
I need a hand setting up cross subnet browsing. Does anyone have some
good news group postings, or a HOWTO?
I have 2 samba servers, and 2 subnets. Each servers sits on it's own
domain/workgroup. I think this should be much simpler than it is,
and perhaps I am just missing one or two settings.
Of the 2 servers: A, B I would like 'A' to do any serving or

Print Server
Ok, here's my setup: I've had a samba file server going for about a year
now. It's Samba v2.05a on a RH6.0 sys. Currently we have a printer
server running on a Winblows NT box. This NT box has the following
printers: HP5si, (4) HP4000, and a few HP4s. All of those printers have
Jet Direct ports on them. What I want to do is, move all the printers
over to the Samba box and KILL the NT

Samba and Medisoft
I am looking at putting the medisoft application on a samba share. I was
wondering if there is currently anyone using this configuration and if so
then what are some of the problems that I might encounter. The app is
currently being hosted on a Winxp pro machine and I need to move it to a
server. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

background process
Hi all
I am working on a heavy engineering project. And the requirement is that
I needto do a lot of process before I store the data to the db.
Now the question is that I want to do the process that I am doing but I
want to do it in the background. What I actually mean to say is that..I
just want the user to get a msg that Records Saved. But in real I want
the process to go on in background.

Samba PDC + Winbind
Hello all.
First, a little background...
I recently downloaded samba-*-ldap-2.2.5-2mdk , installed on Mandrake
8.2 and got everything working fine.
I have LDAP installed for "single sign-on" support. I can use LDAP to
authenticate other Linux boxes, and have Samba as a PDC for some Win2000
boxes - all working fine. Linux users are the same as PDC users, except
for their passwords

Samba3 PDC + LDAP + winbindd?
Hi,
I'm trying to set up a single sign-on system across both linux and windows
with a Samba3 PDC and OpenLDAP backend. I've been trying to follow the
documentation included with Samba3 but I don't seem to be having much
success.
So I have few questions.
#1: What services are necessary for this to work? I know smbd, nmbd and
slapd are for sure required. But I can't figure

samba pdc and winbindd on same server?
If this question has been asked and answered, I am sorry but I searched and
could not find it.
Is it possible to have a samba PDC on the same server as a winbindd pointing
to that samba PDC. The reason I want to do this is that I want the
capability winbindd provides for a single sign on for things UNIX and the
samba PDC for all things Windows. I don't want to have to run two boxes (if

Making winbindd and pam_mount play nice together (2nd try)
We're trying to set up linux based workstations that use a win2k AD/DC for
authentication, and pam_mount to mount a share as the user's home directory.
It looks like winbind isn't passing on the credentials (although it is
getting us logged in). If anyone has made this work, I'd love the details.
It looks like winbind isn't passing the auth information

Samba 3.0 and Active Directory Replication
I have been following the development ot Samba 3.0 with great interest.
There is something that still confuses me.
Can Samba 3.0 join a Windows 2000 network as a domain controller and
replicate Active Directory information with existing Windows 2000 domain
controllers?
If Samba 3.0 is the only domain controller on a network with Windows 2000/XP
clients, will the clients see it as a domain

Samba 3.0.0rc1 and 2 servers - PDC and homes
I have Samba 3.0.0rc1 installed on a linux server DC-01 and it's configured as
a PDC. The only share it has is netlogon. Users are stored in an LDAP passdb.
All our users' home directories are on a second linux server, FS-01. It's
been joined to the domain (command "sudo net join -U Administrator", which is
the name of the "root" account). And here's a

PAM Module for SMB-LDAP
Hi Everybody,
maybe we are just too stupid, but for me it seems that
there is some problem with holding passwords completely
sync between *NIX-world and WIN-world when I use LDAP
& Samba.
If a user changes a password under Windows, with "passwd chat"
the *NIX-Password (attribute: userPassword) can be changend
very well besides the both Samba-LDAP-attributes lmPassword

Fun with Samba Panics
Well, after some other pretty horrible issues with sessionid.tdb (which
I think are fixed by upgrading the version of Samba on the client to
2.2.2 as well), I have some other fun. I am now getting these messages

How do you guys protect Samba shares from Win32 based viruses?
That's pretty much the question. I've got Symantec
NAVCE running on my NT server protecting itself, the
Windows clients and the Exchange server, but what do i
do about my Linux based Samba server?
Will a linux based AV app search for Win32 based
viruses?
Thanks,

Comments / suggestions wanted - Winbind, 2K, and user Homes
I have a single AD domain with 4 domain controllers (win2k-not native mode). I want all
users to login to AD (clients from 98 to XP - no linux clients yet).
This is a school network with 4 campuses connected by wireless links (hence the 4 domain
controllers) and I would like to put a samba server at each location for student home
directories (basically a NAS setup to start with). There will

Samba password changes?
hi,
i've setup a LDAP server with account information,
and compiled samba with ldap support.
everything works great, except for the password changes
i still have to run two seprate commands ( passwd, smbpasswd )
to change a users password.
i've tried to put the pam_smbpasswd.so module into
system-auth, but that does work?
any pointers?
thanks

Samba LDAP user adding
I just installed samba 2.2.7 on Mandrake 9 with OpenLDAP support. I have set
up OpenLDAP and everything is cool. When I try to add a user I get:

samba 3 mandrake rpms...where is net tool?
I installed the RPMS from samba web site for Mandrake 9.1.
Configuration is weird as things are labeled smbd3 or winbind3...
Testparm runs against /etc/samba/smb.conf yet swat configures the
smb.conf in a different location...hmm....
But really my problem is joining the AD domain as a member server. I
can't locate the net tool.
How is this done?
How does testparm know to test against

Custom bios image for qemu
Hello all,
So I am trying to get a qemu guest to use a custom patched seabios image
rather than the default /usr/share/qemu/bios.bin
I have tried changing the domain config file to include either:
<os>
--SNIP--
<loader readonly='yes'
type='rom'>/home/telemin/qemu/seabios_patched.bin</loader>
</os>
OR
domain type='kvm'
