2.2.x Printing from Win2k-more clues
I've discovered a couple of things while troubleshooting my printer setup problems. 1. print$ must be 0744. I ran a level-3 debug, and was seeing "chmod failed" errors. Upping it to level-10, I saw something that pointed to unix rights of 0744; my dir's were set to 0755 or 0777...neither worked. When I set print$ and it's subdir's to 0744, the chmod errors went away.

my printers are still paused in Win2k and WinNT 4.0
Hello, It seems that I am in printer hell once again :) I am trying to sort out some printer problems with our UNIX server. The basic problem is this. I have a test server to K.I.S.S the problem. On this server I have defined two queues which are csqlis and HPfinley. csqlis seems to work correctly and displays ready. HPfinley always reads Paused on win2k and NT40 clients. The output of the lpq

HP Jetdirect, Intel Netport, Samba, And Windows XP
Hello, I have a bunch of Windows XP Pro machines, Samba 2.2.4, and several plotters on Jetdirect cards, and several printers on Netport 10/100 Muli-port network print servers. I have successfully configured Samba 2.2.4 to allow Windows XP to join the domain controlled by Samba and automaticaly create its own computer account on Samba. I would now like to setup Samba to share all the printers

Win2k Printing Problems
I just joined this list, If this has been answered before I apologize: I have a Redhat 7.2 box running Samba 2.2.4 I have a few printers running on JetDirect boxes that I am attempting to print to. I used printconf in Redhat to set them up within the linux box. Everything works fine from the linux box. I set them up within samba (see [printers] below), but when I print I get "Failed to

How to set up spooling for a HP JetDirect interface?
I've set up Samba and LPRng for HP printers with JetDirect cards. It works for one user at a time. But if the printer is off-line or busy, the samba client does not get an error message, but the job gets lost. :( I would like the print jobs to be spooled on Linux even when there is an active print job or when the printer is off-line. Unfortunately I'm not familiar with lpd. The

printer permissions
A stupid question. With new printing system (spoolss) how people restrict access to the printers ? It was clear with the old system when each printer was in a separate share. I could assign a list of valid users for each printer share. TIA. -- Yuri Pismerov, Sr. System Administrator, TUCOWS.COM INC. (416) 535-0123 ext. 1352

Windows XP Pro cannot access Samba
My WXPP PC cannot login to the Samba server although the Win2K and W9x PC's can. The XPP system has joined the domain, but when I rebooted the PC and tried logging in via the domain it complained about not having permission or an account which I've verified and have redone several times, but still I cannot login. Anyone have any information on how to fix this. --

re; Startup
Being new to Linux (RH62) and Samba, I have a simple question and that is does Samba load automatically when the server is rebooted or do I have to write a script or configure a setting to have Samba load at bootup? Print Job Notification
Can anyone suggest a way to have a notification after a print job has completed. I currently have this as my print command: lpr -r -P%p %s; csh -c 'echo \"%J has started printing on %S\" | /usr/bin/smbclient -U %L -M %m -I %I' & It kind of does what I want, but notice that the message says that "Job has STARTED printing on Printer". This is because with this

Printing...
Can anyone give me a hand with printing. Does hosts.lpr need the ips of the windows machines that I want to print from? I am running Mandrake 6.0 on a P-166. The P-166 has the printer attached to it. It can print just fine and another linux box can also print just fine over the network. My Windows box sees the printer and installs it just fine. The test page however never prints. No error

Problem printing from NT to printer attached to LInux box
I installed Samba 2.2.2 on my Linux box. The smb.conf file is as shown below. The permission on /var/spool/lpd/lp is set to 755; ie, it is writable only by the owner, which is lp. With the setup as is, when I try to print from the NT machine, the smb log on the Linux box indicates the following error: " print_job_start: insufficient permissions to open spool file /var/spool/lpd/lp". FW: my printers are still paused in Win2k and WinNT 4.0
Jim, Not only does the buffer scrapper code show paused if the Printer name is something like CSQ_office_a but if the host has off in the name like --> hp@mercylaboffice.pa-ucl.com it puts it on pause... Best Printer Setup
Hi, I've been toying with the idea of using the Linux machine as a print server. I'm using RedHat 5.2 and Samba 2.0.3. I already have one remote printer share working... but I can't figure out where the PrintTool in RedHat is storing the remote printers IP address. Anyone know where? :) (not important just bugging me - I hate when OS's hide stuff) I have the Samba book

OT - LPD for Windows ...
Greetings ... Sorry to be a little off topic, but I was wondering if anybody knows of a free lpd for Windows? I hate sharing printers using the M$ way. See all them computers on my network is just not pleasing, I like the way Novell does it. I was thinking of lpd, LPRng or CUPS with cygwin, but can't seem to find any binaries. Thanks. Printing woes
Hi, I've been using Samba for a while, and I'm now running all network printing here from Samba. However, while printing itself works fine, my users can neither view the print queue, nor delete jobs from it, and this is beginning to get annoying. I'm using LPRng to do all the printing. All the clients are NT4 workstations. Here's some selected bits of /etc/smb.conf and

Can't print to win client
I've connected a BSD machine to a WinME machine in the office to begin experimenting with samba. I've been messing about with it but I can't get a print of samba files to the WinME printer. My /var/spool/lpd/canon directory contains .config, .seq, status and lock files and a whole bunch of files that aren't getting printed to the remote printer. my .config file has: server=ICE1
