Browsing and Mapped Drives over a VPN
Hello All:
I have a situation where I have a Samba box (RH 7.3 w/samba 2.2.4) that I
set up for a client. Another consultant came along and installed a VPN
using SonicWalls between the main site and a remote site. So now they want
the remote users to save files on my Samba box. No problem except that the
remote users can't see my local workgroup or any of the local machines.

rsync error at the end of a transfer
Hi:
I have an rsync server providing four separate areas for rsync clients
to connect to. I only have one client and it is running a backup
script. The nightly backup runs fine through the first three shares
until it gets to one called [webbackup]. This directory contains only 6
files and the first file it tries to get is about 400 meg in size. It
begins to get this file and then the

Samba 2.2 login thread
Phil:
Thanks for the reply. I hope you are enjoying your leave and that you are
doing it someplace nice like in the Greek Islands or some other similarly
sunny place!
I have successfully logged in from a Win2K computer that I had previously
joined the domain with! :)) This makes no sense, but here is what I did:

mounts from users originally only known only to Samba.
Everything fine again, but the next day they came in and told me about
people finding complete new mounts on their workstations. To describe
this:
A user normally has

Z: \\SAMBASRV\HISGROUP

Specifying Browser Computers
When you start a computer running Windows 2000, the browser service looks in
the registry for the entry MaintainServerList to determine whether a
computer will become a browser. MaintainServerList is found in the following
registry subkey:
\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Browser\Parameters

Tr: RE: Samba 2.2.5 and printers
Ok, I solved the problem by myself. The problem was that the users with wich I tried to connect to the printer where defined as admin users, and I declared root as an invalid user in the samba configuration, so it always give me an access denied because it tried to connect as root.
Anyway thanks for the time you waste trying to help me ;-)

FW: my printers are still paused in Win2k and WinNT 4.0
Jim,
Not only does the buffer scrapper code show paused if the Printer name is
something like CSQ_office_a but if the host has off in the name like -->
hp@mercylaboffice.pa-ucl.com it puts it on pause...

FIXED - Print jobs hang in Samba, don't go to UNIX spool er
OK, it's working now. I waited until the production lines
were undergoing a shift change and brought down all of Samba,
then restarted it. Printing now works just fine. I still
don't know what caused the problem, I never saw any error
messages in the [sn]mbd or client logs, even with the log
level turned turned up to 2.
Thanks very much for the time and trouble you took to think

It's not only the name, I just found out...
I have an OfficeJet 570,
and the following entry in my smb.conf would
result in a persistent Paused status:

ugh, continued ldap madness, cont'd
After a brief stint offlist (thanks Bradley), I'm closer to getting
SMB/LDAP working but now am encountering something very odd, which he
suggested I bring back to the list for "further evaluation". :-)

Race Condition cont'd
Thank you Paul for your response. Perhaps I can give a bit more info:
RS/6000 H50 w/AIX 4.3.2 running Samba 2.0.5a
PIII-450 NT4sp4 w/128MB
I indicated yesterday that a race condition appeared to be happening. I later
remembered that I turned on level2 oplocks on two read only shares as the last
tunings we did before this began to happen. I got the info from the Speed.txt
document in hopes of

tinc and routing Cont'd
Hi,
What i said above is not true, i didn't realize that the reason the
route disappeared
was caused by a script that restarts tinc (and also resets the tap
device), not by tinc itself.
I compiled and installed tinc 0.3 today. It seems to work ok, even on a
very slow
486 that caused to crash earlier tinc version.

Dolphin fails to refresh files (cont'd)
Hi,
Some time ago I reported a problem with Dolphin on bugs.centos.org. When
extracting an archive, the new files don't appear, and I have to press
F5 to refresh the current directory display.
I just found out a specificity of this bug. This only seem to happen on
those installations where I run the 4.4.x kernel (kernel-lt package from
elrepo-kernel repository).
Any idea how I could solve
