Problems with samba 2.2.4
Dear Sirs. I have here running samba 2.2.4 compiled on Redhat 7.2 with kernel 2.4.17 with ACL support on EXT3 (http://acl.bestbits.at) and winbindd. Winbind works. I can ssh as a NT4 user and use samba network shares as a NT user without username mapping. (no German special characters, no spaces in user name). 1. In smb.conf veto files = /quota.*/lost+found/.*/ doesn't work 2. In

Multi-user databases (DOS application) in WIndows XP and Windows 2k file locking problem
Hello all! I discover a strange thing. We use and develop DOS financial accounting application, written on Xbase (formerly known as Clipper). This application agressively uses of file sharing and locking (byte-range and all possible for DOS combinations), creates and uses huge amount of index (NTX) and Dbase III (DBF) files on network shared resource. Network clients are Windows 98se,

win2k client slow with samba 2.2.3.a - maybe a bug?
This sure looks like a bug but maybe a configuration error on my part. I am trying to migrate out current OS/2 Warp 4 based file server to Samba. We have OS/2, Win98, WinNT4, and Win2k clients. I set Samba 2.2.3a up to use security = SHARE as this appears to be the closest to what the OS/2 Warp4 based system supports. All clients are able to access the files on the Samba service but loading

Win2k, Domain logon, permissions
I first asked this question at the end of October, got a response which didn't solve the problem, and have finally got back to the issue now. I'm running 2.2.7a, recently upgraded from 2.2.0 as Domain Logons for Win2K were suspected to be part of my problem. Anyway, the issue relates to AutoCAD (actually a vertical product called Land3) and a command which works with winXX boxes, but

Quotas and Win98 clients
Dear all, I've successfully setup a Samba 2.2.3a file server with quota support on a RedHat Linux 7.1 with Kernel 2.4.18-ac2. Win NT clients (NT, 2K, XP) works fine, and samba report the quota per user as disk capacity. But Win98/ME clients don't. Samba report the filesystem capacity, and even worse, users can bypass their quotas ! I solved the problem using a dfree script written in

Lingering IPC$ connections
I'm running the latest samba release (2.2.8a), and everything seems to be running fine. Except for something that does not look quite right. Connections to the IPC$ share are being left behind by samba once the user has logged off. And what's even more troubling is that the pid associated with the lingering IPC$ connection is picked up by the next smbd process, and then you have one pid

Can't initialise locking module - exiting
Afternoon, I'm running OpenBSD 3.1, and since being informed that since 2.2.3a contains a bug I should upgrade to 2.3.4 - which I've done. I've installed this from source, and havn't seen any reason to believe the build process didn't work properly (Other than having duplicated binaries in /usr/local/samba/bin/ and in /usr/source_distributions/samba-2.2.4/source/bin/smbd

testparm is telling me something but i dont know what.
Hi all I try to get Samba running on the recent Debian stable release. All upgrades have been done and Samba was included in the OS Installation. I use the Samba version 2.2.3a-12.3 for Debian. smbd and nmbd are starting automaticly when the System is running. The smb.conf is still the one from the installation, nothing edited yet. Here are the errormessages that i get if i try testparm and

smbstatus & connections.tdb
Greetings, After recently upgrading Samba from 2.0.7 to 2.2.2 on my Solaris Unix servers, I have problems running command 'smbstatus'. When I run smbstatus as root, it correctly displays connection information for users who've mapped network drives to server shares. However, when I run smbstatus as non-root, instead of displaying connection information, it issues the message

smbstatus issue in v4.1
Sorry I should have said in my original post, this server is a NT4 style domain server. Looking in /var/log/samba I see log files with the machine names in the file names, so samba definitely knows the machine names. Problem with winbind in Win2k domain
I've been trying to setup a Samba file server on our Win2k domain that will use the users/groups from Win2k using Winbind. I have been quite successful so far but have come up against a problem. This is what I've done so far: - Download 2.2.4, compiled and installed fine - Setup winbind & added the server to the domain. All works fine (I ca list users, groups etc) - Setup samba

IPC connections and utmp
Hi, I am running Samba version 2.2.5 with utmp turned on. I have a problem with utmp and not displaying who is currently logged in. The basic idea is that even though a user has logged off the computer (win2k pro) a connection to IPC$ remains. It gives this. samba 2.2.3a "Connection reset by peer" problem
Hi!! I have 4 boxes with RH7.3 and Samba 2.2.3a, and since we put them in a production enviroment we are having a lot of problems, 90% of the clients are win2k sp2. Sometimes when I try to copy a little file (20k) it lasts abot 30 seconds, and if I try to copy multiple files (about 200) or a bigger file (about 100Mb) start copying but in a few seconds it freezes and after about 2 minutes, ends

smbd hung processes - Samba 3.0.7
I have the very same problem with samba 3.0.14a running on Debian Sarge and have found no solution yet. Has anyone found a solution in the meanwhile? smbstatus -b shows bogus connections
Hi, I have samba 3 (samba-3.0.10-1.4E) on RHEL4.1. I have updated from RH9 and samba 2.x The 'smbstatus -b' command shows connections that does not exists. For example, a user connects to their windows XP session and then disconnects. But smbstatus -b shows that the user still connected even if that user have used only 10 minutes the cliente PC. I think it should be a problem with .tdb
