Changing ACLs dont work, clicking 'apply' restores old ACL
Hello! I'm building a samba fileserver that would share the same files for both linux and UNIX clients and ACLs should still work from windows. The UNIX clients don't have any users either, because all user information is taken from an AD. The setup is the following: Samba 3rc1 fileserver Win2k3 AD Server + Win2k clients and Linux clients Basically the win2k3 AD schema has been updated

Using windows homedirs as a linux homedirs
Hello, I would like to have linux users to have same homedirs as in windows. Now home directories are on windows 2000 server. How I can map users homedirectory from windows 2000 server to linux workstation with credentials user gives at logintime? Or even better, how I can persistently map those homedirectories to linux (without mapping them as an administrator)? -- /\_/\ ( o.o )

how to disable homedirs?
Hi, how can i disable the homedir? I have a Domain login configuration, but do not want server based profiles. After I add a workstation to the domain, the user profiles, created during the first login of a domain user, on that machine are always server based. Sure, I can change this profile to a local profile, but I think I can change this it in the samba configuration, that all profiles are

links causing dovecot endless search through user's homedirs
Hello, My user's imap folder locations are a mess. Some have them in /home/username/mail but a lot of them just have them in /home/username. So I need to have dovecot's base imapdir pointed directly at the user's homedirs. My problem now is that a lot of users have many links in their homedirs. Some even have circular links, such as: /home/username/foo/foo1/foo2/foo3/foo4 ->

not creating homedirs when using maildir format
Hi all, I'm in the process of setting up dovecot, but for some reason, it's not creating home directories if they don't already exist. I have the following line in dovecot.conf: default_mail_env = maildir:~/mail:INBOX=/var/mail/%u I have set permissions on /home to allow everyone full access, so creating directories in /home by dovecot non-root processes shouldn't be a

Sporadic Homedirs lost
Hi List, since the upgrade of a LDAP based PDC/BDC system to PDC/BDC and fileserver we have problems with users sporadic loolsing their homedirs. These events are unreproducible and only sporadic. Only the homedir not any of the other shares mounted from the fileserver are subject to this connection breakoff. The logs seem to suggest the username has been "forgotten" by the

Nis homedirs
Greetings, I'm using 2.0.0-alpha13 on Solaris (compiling with gcc 2.8.1 on Solaris 2.5, running on 2.5, 2.5.1, and 2.6). I see this in the smb.conf.5 man page: nis homedir (G) Get the home share server from a NIS (or YP) map. For unix systems that use an automounter, the user's home directory will often be mounted on a workstation on demand from a remote

Double homedirs and tilde problems in case of chroot in passwd-file / static dbs.
Recently I've made the post about "double homedir" problem, but I couldn't recreate it later. Here're the exact steps to make it happen (configuration is at the bottom): 1) set configuration as below with passwd-files 2) clean testms dir (not necessary though) 3) reload dovecot (HUP is enough) 4) access the server with any client using testms user (make sure no other

Can't create files using Mac OSX Client against Sambaserver on Debian Linux
Well, after some more poking around, I discovered that this problem was not neccessarily a simple matter of getting Samba properly configured. For the benefit of the list, I've posted the following URL which takes you to a Debian bug report which starts out with a post describing the exact problem I'm seeing. As it turns out, it may have more to do with a problem with file locking

Problem with permissions
Hi all, this may be a very stupid question but I just don't really get it. We are two consultants from two different companies working for a custom er and are having a problem that we just can't solve, the other consultant is blaming samba and I want to prove him wrong. The thing we are looking at right now is that I have a chmoded 777 directory but in NT4 it appears with: Everyone

Sambaserver slows down, too many smbd processes
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi folks, maybe my problem was discussed before, but I'm just too busy to browse the whole mailinglist at the moment. I'm running Samba 3.0.14a(sernet) on a Debian Sarge with LDAP-Backend. After some days, the users aren't able to load their profiles from the server. In fact, no datas can be transfered from/to the sambaserver. The cpu

Hello, I would really appreciate some help/guidance with this problem. First of all sorry for the long message. I would file a bug, but do not know if it is my fault, dm-cache, qemu or (probably) a combination of both. And i can imagine some of you have this setup up and running without problems (or maybe you think it works, just like i did, but it does not): PROBLEM LVM cache writeback

template homedir confusion
Hi, I have set up Samba 3.0.0 with ADS integration. It works fine, with a workaround for a small oddity. I use template homedirs like this: template homedir = /home/%D/%U On a soon-to-be-retired server running 3.0a19, I have a directory LOCAL (as in LOCAL.DOMAIN.NAME) containing the homedirs - this works as expected from the output of "getent passwd", which shows the homedirs of

windbind, 'template homedir', and macros
I am currently using Mssfu, nss_ldap, and pam_ldap to enable my linux boxes to auth against MsA.D. and get all their user info from MsA.D. I recently discovered that winbind can accomplish the same without Mssfu, as long as I'm content to be limitted by the winbind config directives 'template shell' and 'template homedir'. I'd like to drop sfu if I can. The 'template
