What exact version of samba are you running?
Did you join the domain *before* or *after* you installed sp2?
Could you send me the netlogon

NTConfig.pol
Hi list.
I've just configured a PDC server using RedHat Enterprise Linux 4 (update
5) and Samba 3.0.25a.
Everithing is working fine. I'm not using LDAP and all my client machines
are installed with Windows XP Professional.
I used the Mike Petersen website (
http://www.pcc-services.com/custom_poledit.html) to help me creating the
NTConfig.pol file and created custom profiles

Ntconfig.pol policies not applied immediatly after been read
hi,
My NTconfig.pol file into \\netlogon share seems to be good...
in the logs the file is readed with no problem at my user logon.
The strange think I have is that the policy I've made is applied if my
user loggon onto a windows 2003 server we have for testing purpose ! (If
I loggon first onto my win2k machine, the policy is not applied ...)
logging after onto my win2k computer takes

Implementation of W2K Group Policies from a Linux Ser ver
Just a quick congrats to John for repling to this email constructivly.
Too often do people fire out the ole RTFM speel. More people within the
OpenSource community could do with taking a leaf out of his book.
On topic for a second, do not discount being able to lower the spec of the
below machine due to careful implementation and installation. You may wish
to take a look at the kernel

W2K Workstation not reading NTConfig.pol
I have recently set up an small SAMBA network(just my
server and a W2K SP4 Workstation). My Server is acting
as a PDC. Everything seems to work flawlessly, users,
roaming profiles, netlogon script, etc... But I cannot
make this machine to read my NTConfig.pol file.
I have it at my NETLOGON share [/srv/netlogon] with
rwxr-xr-x permissions. I have tried with different
filenames (NTConfig.POL,

deploy policies for win7 ?
hello,
I skipped Vista and was using WinXP on all clients until now. I deployed my policies using a file ntconfig.pol in the [netlogon]-share, but this does not work with win7 any more.
How do you deploy your policies with Vista or Win7 ?
I use recent samba 3.4.6 and hope there is some way. Every experience welcome. I think thousands of readers here might have similar problems somehow :)

Samba 3.0.0 PDC + Win2000 Client + Group Policies
We want to build a Debian's unstable samba 3.0.0beta2-1 as PDC with plenty of
Windows 2K clients.
Joining the domain, Domain Logons, Roaming Profiles, Domain Groups, are Ok.
As we thought that Samba 3 cannot handle Win2K's GPOs (isn't it?), we tried
NT4 style Group Policies to restrict a bit users posibilities (as we have
students as users). Our opinion is that Mandatory Profiles

creating NTConfig.POL
I have an NTConfig.POL I created from poledit with the Windows 2000
Administrator toolkit. It contains my WSUS configuration, and
NTConfig.POL is placed in my [netlogon] share and is being loaded fine
by the clients. Is this still the propery way to create NTConfig.POL
files, or is there a newer utility I should be using? I'm looking at
Vista and it uses .admx templates, which I guess

Windows2000 policies in a Samba PDC
I'm installing a Samba 3.0 PDC with LDAP backend in a classroom in
a Spanish school. Client workstations are Windows2000 and, in the future,
there will be Linux clients.
I'm following the Samba Project Documentation book (also known as Samba
Howto Collection). The document is wonderfull, but there is a part that
I don't fully understand, maybe because, as you can read, I'm not a

problem login W2k-sp2 and 4 to samba 3.0.2: profiles
Hi once again
Now I have almost everything working, that is, Samba 3.0.2 with Ldap
database (messages ok when reading), and I want it to be a PDC,
everything seems to work fine when registering machines or users, but
when logging, I mean, entering W2k-Sp4, my computers (two of them) reset
themselves: they begin to load the user defined stuff and then when one
expects the the navigator bar to

Any possibility to apply policies on WinXP machines u sing samba 3.2.3 ?
We make use of NT4 policies on our Samba domain. NTconfig.POL needs to be
in \\domaincontroller\netlogon. I don't believe that you can use Active
Directory GPOs (group policy objects) with a Samba domain.

Group Policies in Samba 3
Ok, I'm going kinda nuts...
I have a samba 3 + openldap domain, which works great for
authentication, etc.
I am trying to use the NTConfig.POL to enforce policies on a mix of
98/win2k and XP boxes. This is a K12 environment, so I need very
restrictive policies for students, less so for teachers and staff.
What seems to be happening, at least with the XP clients is that it gets

Connecting XP SP2 to Samba 2.0.6
Hi!
Please don't whack me too hard for even attempting this, but I need a
definitve answer for a school network: can a share from a Samba 2.0.6
be accessed from a WinXP Prof with SP2 at all? If so, I'd appreciate
a hint.
Thanks a bunch in advance,

ntconfig.pol for samba3.5.6+openldap+Win7
Hi all,
All clients are Win 7.
How can I transmit rules defined in gpedit for users (for example
forbid execution of regedit) to the Default User roaming profile?
Is it done with a ntconfig.pol ? If yes, how can I make it ?
Thanks

Win98 policies,profiles and logon scripts
I am running Samba 2.2.3a and have my users logging into the 'samba
domain'. My WinNT and WinXP users are working fine with roaming profiles
and policies. My problem is my Win98 users. The logon script doesn't seem
to be working, i.e. when I log onto a Win98 machine (logging into the
domain), the logon script doesn't run. I have opened up the permissions to
the logon script

The use of goup policies in XP and Vista
Hi all,
Can anyone point me in the right direction to apply Group Policies from a
Samba 3.0.26 PDC to my Windows XP and Vista clients. I read chapter 26 of
the Samba manual (dated April 3 2003) and I was wondering if the
NTConfig.POL file in the NETLOGON share is the way to go here?
Regards,
Joost.

Hi,
A few weeks ago I announced a rewritten PROFILES.txt on the mailing
list.
It is available on http://users.iafrica.com/p/pc/pcs/profiles.txt
The idea of it is to explain exactly how NT and 95 handles roaming
profiles and then specify how to set up samba to enable both to handle
roaming profiles.
Most of the document it finished, and I would like to contribute it, but
I have a few things to

samba 3.0.1 policies
Hi,
We are considering samba 3.0.1 as a replacement for our old-hag Windows
NT4.0 Server PDC. However, we do want some policy control, and from the
samba 3.0.0 documentation (23.3), it says the only current functional
policy is the password expirey. Is this still true in samba 3.0.1?
Can an NT4.0 server be a backup domain controller to samba 3.0.1 PDC? That
way we can keep the NT4 machine
