Browsing and Mapped Drives over a VPN
Hello All: I have a situation where I have a Samba box (RH 7.3 w/samba 2.2.4) that I set up for a client. Another consultant came along and installed a VPN using SonicWalls between the main site and a remote site. So now they want the remote users to save files on my Samba box. No problem except that the remote users can't see my local workgroup or any of the local machines. Here's

causing LMB elections
I've been running samba servers with 200+ W98 machines for some time. I'm changing to W2k and everything was going fine. I've upgraded 40 boxes. One W2k box has started announcing itself as a local master browser for one of the workgroups. A samba server thinks it is master, forcing election. Samba will stop being the LMB for about 3 minutes and then will re-establish itself as

Moterboard help Please
All, I have been terribly pleased with openbsd 3.2 I was using it as a mail/samba server with postifx on a pentium pro 200 with 1 gig of memory. Well I wanted to add a larger harddrive than what I have in it now only 6.4 gig. Well the machine would not see it and for some reason after hours and hours of trying I can't get a tekram 395UW and a 18gig scsi to be the boot drive and having failed

RE: Browsing cont'd
Don't forget to add the #PRE after the host info; that way it preloads it. Create one lmhosts file for the Win boxes, and copy to either \windows (win9x) \winnt\system32\drivers\etc (NT/Win2k/XP) then open a DOS Prompt and type nbtstat -R to flush/refresh the cached info. The samba box's hosts go in /etc, /lmhosts go in /etc/samba (if you're using the current defaults. Put the

Samba joins win2k domain but can't authenticate
All I got my samba server to join my win2k domain without any problems. But if I change the config to read security=domain it prompts the user for a username and password. If I change it to security=server it does not prompt for user names. I did some searching in the list came up with a few emails and this website http://www.sugoi.org/bits/index.php?bit_id=10 but still no change. In the /etc/host

Unable to join AD (FreeBSD)
Hi, I am trying to get samba 3.0.7 working with our win2k DC. I installed samba from the ports collection, so the kerberos library looks to be the heimdel version. I can use kinit to create a ticket and it authenticates against the DC just fine. However when I attempt to use "net ads join" it fails with the following response: [2004/11/09 16:32:30, 0] utils/net_ads.c:ads_startup(183)

Virus in message
Hey this group uses exchange for the mailing list? This can't be true what is with all the virus warnings saying it came from exchange. But not only that it said it was deleted and that is not true when the mail reached me it still had the virus attached and my virus scanner deleted it. When these messages are sent to the group aren't they scanned before being sent to the list? Just

Help with Profiles Please
Good morning all and hope you all enjoyed the 4th. I have a FreeBSD box setup with Samba as a PDC for win9x win2k and winxp. Everything is working beautifully except for one thing, my win2k boxes and winxp boxes with profiles. Of course I had to have the profiles directory setup for win2k and xp clients to join the domain for some reason they were looking for that. Anyway on to the problem

Updating MacOSX Wiki Page
All advanced MacOSX users: Before I go and totally mess up the MacOSX Wiki page, I want INPUT and if you are willing to do updates, please advise so that I don't step on your work (and toes). Direct, off list and out of forum replies are requested. I've turned off the spambot so you won't get those nasty messages anymore. I have better ways of dealing with spam. Thank you. James

ia32-libs for 64 bit CentOS
Hi, I've been trying to install Zimbra Desktop 7 on CentOS 5.5 using the usual perl script provided. The issue is, I get a warning that my system does not have ia32 libs. I dug a bit on google and found out that 'there is no such package as ia32 libs for Centos'. I also tried all the suggested work arounds like glibc & stuff, can anyone shed more light on this? Oh, the zimbra

Internal DNS CNAME To Amazon Web Services Problem
Hello Samba Mailing List Well, the companies I contacted about this problem said that they could not help because it was an actual Samba code issue, and not a configuration issue. I have "got around it" for now by changing the internal CNAME to an A record which points to another in-house server running Apache and then creating a quick internal web site for the www.domain.com in

[LLVMdev] llvm-gcc and -emit-llvm
Just thought I'd mention this to keep other people from stubbing their toes on it... Using llvm-gcc/llvm-g++ and -emit-llvm, you need to make sure to pass -S as well, like so: ./llvm-g++ -S -emit-llvm hello.cpp not: /llvm-g++ -emit-llvm hello.cpp I'm sure that's old news to most of the people on the list, but I thought it couldn't hurt to mention it in case other people happen
