Asking for Password
Please forgive me but I am pretty new to Linux. I have Samba set up on a
Server and when I go to access it from a windows workstation one, a box pops
up with the resourse as \\servername\IPC$ <file://\\servername\IPC$> asking
for a password. I have the right domain and my username is the same as my
windows password?
Why would I be getting these messages? What am I doing wrong?

Selecting Samba Printer Port
I have a strange problem here. I have a network of Windows NT and XP clients that print to printers shared by Samba.
When I double click on the printer icon, the queue opens and it says in the title bar, "Initializing", then "Failed to connect, Retrying".
I was able to resolve this on Windows NT by created "Samba Printer Port" as a local port. Unfortunatly in

Where is info about printer drivers stored?
I mean that driver is installed for this printer?
I played with 2.2.0 configuration- remake srpm with

Problems since upgrading 2.2 to 3
Hello,
I am running Debian on an i386 machine. I recently upgraded to Debian
Testing, which upgraded Samba from 2.2 to 3.0.2. Since then, I have been
having several problems. The Samba server is used as a PDC for Windows
XP Pro. clients. Sometimes (often) when users log on, they get an error
about a single file in their profile not being able to be copied to
their local profile, and then a

rsync problem
Hi all,
I've installed rsync-2.5.6 on a sun box (solaris 8). When I run rsync using the
command
rsync -a ssh /opt/local/pkgs/httpd/htdocs/ root@remotemachine:/mnt/
I get the error
rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (0 bytes read so far)
rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(165)
What could be the reason? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Rajesh.

protocol version mismatch
Hi,
I am pretty new to rsync so this question might have a very trivial
answer. Sorry for that then. (using google didn't work though)
I want to synchronise the files from my laptop to my machine at work and
back from time to time. Both machines have linux (the laptop has fedora
core 2 with a 2.6.6 kernel and the remote machine redhat 9 with a
2.6.3 kernel)
On the laptop I use rsync

$> cat ravi.ex
#!/usr/bin/expect --

How do I get the username in channel_input_port_open
Hello,
Does anyone know how to get the username of the user (already authenticated
and logged in) who is sending data to a forwarded tunnel from the
channel_input_port_open function in channels.c??
I've tried numerous things, and all I can get is the IP address that is
sending the data and where it is going to be sent to. All I want is the
username or the UID

Unable to join samba server to a NT4 style domain
Hello,
I have installed Samba version 3.0.13 on a Solaris 9 machine and am trying to add it to an existing NT domain as a member server. I have followed the instructions in Chapter 2 of the Samba HOW-TO collection for adding a samba server as a Domain member. The problem is that when i use the net rpc join command to join the domain, I get the following error:
# ./net rpc join -U

2.2.x Printing from Win2k-more clues
I've discovered a couple of things while
troubleshooting my printer setup problems.
1. print$ must be 0744. I ran a level-3
debug, and was seeing "chmod failed" errors.
Upping it to level-10, I saw something that
pointed to unix rights of 0744; my dir's were
set to 0755 or 0777...neither worked. When I
set print$ and it's subdir's to 0744,
the chmod errors went away.

Print jobs hang in Samba, don't go to UNIX spooler
I have encountered a strange printing problem with Samba 2.2.4 running under
HP-UX 11i.
In the process of investigating a printing problem, I have found that Samba
has stopped passing jobs along to the UNIX lp spooler as of yesterday
afternoon.
When NT/W2K clients print to printers on my server, the jobs are accepted,
Samba
spool files are created in the spool directory defined for the printer

Feature suggestion: sftp over ssh client in a single connection
It has always bugged me that if I want to use a shell and perform some
file transfers in a single host I have to take two SSH connections:
one for the shell via ssh(1) and one for the file transfer via
sftp(1). Some graphical SSH clients can perform sftp operations and
ssh shell access in a single connection by using SSH2 protocol's
support for multiple channels.
So I hacked my openssh client

Unable to join samba server to a NT4 style domain/Sam ba-Guide feedback
John,
The restrictanonymous setting was the primary culprit
in Ash's issue. I think he's using basically the same
setup as I am; no winbind/LDAP involved. I'm thinking
there's some initial handshaking that requires an
anonymous connection to PDC, and it's being blocked
if the restrictanonymous setting is too high.
I sent a note to Ash (& the list) asking for the

'last' command doesn't include ssh connections made by this perl script?
My home machine has IP 50.54.225.130. I have (for the purposes of this
experiment) one remote machine at www.peacefire.org (69.72.177.140) and
another at www.junkwhale.com.
When I'm logged in to peacefire, I run this perl script to open an ssh
connection to junkwhale and run a command:

my $server_password = "[redacted!]";

print job not deleting
Has anyone seen this?
When we print using Samba, the printjob stays in the queue after prints
Also in the LPD.conf is set to :
save_when_done@
done_jobs=0
done_jobs_max_age=1
We're using Redhat 7.3.

Win2K sp4 can't print
Hi,
I just installed 2 Win2K sp4 workstations on an otherwise working Samba 2.2.8a
network and 2 of the 3 printers are showing "Access denied". What's up with that?
The other computers that are working just fine are Win98, XP and Win2K NOT sp4.
Here is part of the global section:
printing = bsd
load printers = yes
disable spoolss = yes
