FW: my printers are still paused in Win2k and WinNT 4.0
Jim, Not only does the buffer scrapper code show paused if the Printer name is something like CSQ_office_a but if the host has off in the name like --> hp@mercylaboffice.pa-ucl.com it puts it on pause... my printers are still paused in Win2k and WinNT 4.0
Hello, It seems that I am in printer hell once again :) I am trying to sort out some printer problems with our UNIX server. The basic problem is this. I have a test server to K.I.S.S the problem. On this server I have defined two queues which are csqlis and HPfinley. csqlis seems to work correctly and displays ready. HPfinley always reads Paused on win2k and NT40 clients. The output of the lpq

2.2.x Printing from Win2k-more clues
I've discovered a couple of things while troubleshooting my printer setup problems. 1. print$ must be 0744. I ran a level-3 debug, and was seeing "chmod failed" errors. Upping it to level-10, I saw something that pointed to unix rights of 0744; my dir's were set to 0755 or 0777...neither worked. When I set print$ and it's subdir's to 0744, the chmod errors went away.

It's not only the name, I just found out... I have an OfficeJet 570, and the following entry in my smb.conf would result in a persistent Paused status: [HP570] comment = OfficeJet 570 by HP450C Plotter path = /var/spool/samba/hp570 writeable = no printable = yes printer name = hp570 use client driver = no Changing the comment to "HP570

2cent note-- RE: Access denied, unable to connect to prin ter
We had a similar problem here, different but perhaps not entirely unique if someone else happens to make the same mistake. We give kudos to the samba logging. =) We have a linux samba print server with cups as a member server of an nt4 domain. The win98 users could print fine, win 2k could not - but that wasn't the problem, though only these systems had an "access denied" error

Tr: RE: Samba 2.2.5 and printers
Ok, I solved the problem by myself. The problem was that the users with wich I tried to connect to the printer where defined as admin users, and I declared root as an invalid user in the samba configuration, so it always give me an access denied because it tried to connect as root. Anyway thanks for the time you waste trying to help me ;-) ----Message r?exp?di?---- >Date: Thu, 27 Jun 2002

Printers Always Paused - A Solution
I had a problem with Samba 2.2.5 with the printers being permanantly paused to Windows machines. They could print OK - it was only the status that was wrong. The reason for this was because I had used the word office in the printer name / comment. This was causing the parser which recognises the printer status to find 'off' pausing the printer. A quick fix for this is to replace the

2.2.7 and printer status
Hallo Samba-Team, thank you for 2.2.7. The only problem I found is an old one: status of printers served from samba on Windows 2000 I'll try to explain this so clear as possible: If I have a Windows user "Administrator", which is in Windows administrative group "Administratoren" and this user is on Samba-side *mapped* to "root" --> printer status is *ok*.

Annoying Printer problem...Samba 2.2.7a on Debian 3.0 with lprng
Hi all, Have got Winbind working again successfully on another box, but this time the printer won't work, it worked fine last time. The printer installs fine, and it lets me print to it, but nothing comes out on the printer, no sign of anything being sent to it. I think it's a permissions problem or something...but I've not much clue when it comes to printing on *nix how it actually

Printing in w2k. Access denied, unable to connect & F ailed to open retrying
add :done_jobs=0 to your /etc/printcap printer entries to get rid of the Paused jobs. search back through the archives of the last month or so; look for disable_spoolss, guest ok=, printing=lprng, access denied, retrying, [print$], map to guest= read through printer_driver2.html a couple of times A couple of the posts spell out most of what you're looking for-good luck finding them.

Unable to join samba server to a NT4 style domain
Hello, I have installed Samba version 3.0.13 on a Solaris 9 machine and am trying to add it to an existing NT domain as a member server. I have followed the instructions in Chapter 2 of the Samba HOW-TO collection for adding a samba server as a Domain member. The problem is that when i use the net rpc join command to join the domain, I get the following error: # ./net rpc join -U

Print queue doesn't clear
I suppose this is a basic linux question as much as it is a Samba related question. I have configured my 2.2.5 redhat 7.3 server to *not* supply the drivers (too many problems). Everything is fine now, but one exception: the print job remains in the queue after it prints. The job shows up as "Paused". This leaves the printer icon in the tray on the client. The reason I mentioned it is a

Print jobs hang in Samba, don't go to UNIX spooler
I have encountered a strange printing problem with Samba 2.2.4 running under HP-UX 11i. In the process of investigating a printing problem, I have found that Samba has stopped passing jobs along to the UNIX lp spooler as of yesterday afternoon. When NT/W2K clients print to printers on my server, the jobs are accepted, Samba spool files are created in the spool directory defined for the printer

Samba 2.2.5 and printers
I'm currently having a problem with the new released Samba 2.2.5: I cannot print anymore on my shared printer. What is strange is that It worked fine with samba 2.2.4, but now I got an access denied whenever I try to access the printer... /var/spool/lpd/samba is chmod 777 and the username is in the group lp Here is part of my smb.conf: [global] workgroup = HOME netbios name =
