FW: Accessing Samba share with Win2k
Since I haven't had a response to my earlier post, I'm reposting this with some more info. I'm running Samba version 2.07 on Redhat Linux 7.0. Here is my smb.conf file: # Samba config file created using SWAT # from greyowl.swamp.ca (192.168.0.5) # Date: 2002/06/26 00:29:59 # Global parameters [global] workgroup = SWAMP netbios name = BALDEAGLE server

force user (S) This specifies a UNIX user name that will be assigned as the default user for all users connecting to this service. This is useful for sharing files. You should also use it carefully as using it incorrectly can cause security problems. This user name only gets used once a connection is established. Thus clients still need to connect as a valid user and supply a valid password. Once

NMBD cannot find Domain Master
I'm running version: 2.0.7 on RH 7.0 on a small LAN at home with Win98, WinME and Win2K computers. Samba seems to be working well, except that my nmbd.logs are filled with the following messages: [2002/07/23 05:14:19, 0] nmbd/nmbd_browsesync.c:find_domain_master_name_query_fail(360) find_domain_master_name_query_fail: Unable to find the Domain Master Browser name SWAMP<1b> for

access samba 3.0 shares from Win2K, Win3K, WinXPProf. using netbios name
Hi: I have a Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Ed. as Domain controller, an its current domain functional level is 'Windows Server 2003'. Also, I have a RedHat Linux 7.3 server with SaMBa (tested with rpm samba-3.0.0-2, and compiling the samba source code). I'd joined the linux server to the AD tree without problems, access from it to the Win2003 shared resources too, but I have

Win2K and multiple Samba servers and Samba 2.07
Hello to all, This is my first ever use of a mailing list so bear with my ramblings and illiterate prose. I have been using samba from 2.03 to 2.07 for over a year now. We run DHCP, WINS on the samba (acting as domain) box running Mandrake 6.0. Windows machines are running everything from Win95 up to Win2K. With Win2K I have problems with slow read/write, particularly for one application

James Nord's reply to Win2K and multiple Samba 2.07 servers
Hello again, Thanks James for your replies. In regards to the slow read/write, the software vendor is aware of the problem, at some stage they will buffer the read/write, but it won't happen overnight, the binary file is quite complicated. So there are no updates available for this particular issue and I don't expect any for a couple of months. The software in question can generate

Problems with Samba as a PDC for Win2K
I am having difficulties running Samba as a PDC for WIN2K Clients. I'm running version 2.2.5 on a RH7.3 box. Win98 is able to access shares just fine, as is win2k if it is just a member of a workgroup, and not a domain. I have tried both the automated process of setting up a machine account, and the manual method. In the automated case, the machine account is automatically created, but the

Data Corruption with Win2K clients & ACT 2000 database
Greetings, I read with interest the few posts in the archives discussing problems I have recently encountered with data corruption of an ACT 2000 database residing on a Samba 2.07 share, SuSE Linux 7.1 (2.2.28 kernel), with about 25 Win2K clients. I did not, however, see any apparent resolution to this major problem - I either am going to have to rebuild from scratch my current Win2K Server, or

Insuffecient Quota with Win2k and Samba 2.0.7
I have a Redhat Linux 7 machine running Samba 2.07 for file server access only. Samba is setup to use our NT server (4 w/sp6) as the primary domain controller to validate accounts on. Fine, this is all working dandy. Except that for some odd reason, when some of our Win2k clients are accessing the file server, they will occasionally get an "Insufficient Quota" error. Now,

more inter-subnet browsing wierdness
We are seeing some strange inter-subnet browsing issues here, our setup is as follows: .129 subnet [ samba box ] | | [ router ] ^ _.1 subnet _/ \_ .9 subnet_ The .129 subnet contains only the samba server configured to the letter from the browsing.txt file. The .1 subnet conists of win98 and winME boxes all configured from DHCP to use the samba box for WINS lookups.

Our network is using a mix of Win2k server, Win2k Pro, Win98, Win95 and WinMe machines, where the Win2k server is the domain controller and terminal service applications server and the Samba is a member fileserver of the domain. All workstations logon and mount the samba file services. We'd like to check if the problem could be solved by

OK, need some help with Win2K clients real bad
Hi everyone, OK, this is driving me nuts, and I'd really appreciate some help from those who are intimately familiar with the way the Locks, etc work with Win2K clients... We have an ACT database that is shared among about 25 Users, all Win2K clients. I have tried and tried and tried again to move this database over to my Linux (Redhat 7.0 with almost all 7.1 patches) server running SAMBA,

samba - linux RedHat and win2k
I have a PC running RedHat 7.2 with 2 network interfaces (eth0 and eth1). eth1 uses static IP (192.168.0.1) and is used to connect to internal network. eth0 uses dhcp and get IP address from cable provider. It is also setup with IP Masquerade. I have SAMBA configured on the PC but from win2k is still not able to see the share. My win2k is a standalone machine that doesn't logon to any

Windows XP machine cannot be accessed
I have a small peer to peer network of 4 machines, WinME, Win2K Pro SP4, Win XP Pro SP2 and Linux Mandrake 10.1 Samba 3.0.10.1. I am pretty new at Linux but have been around computers for a very long time. The Linux installation went smoothly, MDK and KDE3 utilities make it simple for newbies to get things running, so Samba went together quite easily but I now have a problem I have been

Spaces in WinME Directory Names
Hello! I've finally gotten Samba and WinME to connect and see each other. On my WinME box I've got the usual My Documents folder which I'd like my Linux box to be able to use. I think there's a problem with the space in the directory name. smbmount //WinME/My Documents ~/mountpoint 2854: tree connect failed: ERRSRV - ERRinvnetname (Invalid network name in tree connect.) SMB
