I recently performed a SuSE online update to my system, and since then
Samba has refused to work properly. After the update, nmbd produces the
infamous message:

Unable to see linux files on windows using Samba
Hi,
I installed Samba on the only linux server that
we have on our network.
On the Linux server, I was able to mount various shared
directories from various windows machines ( we use windows 2000 )
So, seeing windows files on linux is not a problem.
We also wanted to go the other way( seeing linux files on windows )
I searched on google but to no avail. I set the lmhosts file and
still nothing

I have installed RedHat Linux 7.2 and tried to get Samba working.
I have tried a lot, but I keep bouncing the fact that on the linuxserver it
is not possible to lookup itself using: nmblookup linuxserver.
All other machines in the network are ok. I can find them through the
nmblookup easy.
Broadcast is ok, subnet mask brought back to 255.255.255.0, in fact it seems
that all is in place as I have

Hi,
I've just updated (using yum under fedora 5) to the latest version of
samba and am now encountering a major problem with samba. Whenever I
attempt to access shares (don't have printers or other such non disk
shares) the access fails (after prompting for password, and performing
some level of authentication, it notes if no password is entered that
Anonymous login successful).

read/write problem - access denied - Red Hat 7.3 - XP connection
Hi there,
I successfully connected a windows XP machine with my samba server (red
Hat 7.3, samba version 2.2.3a) using SWAT.
Problem is that the files on the share aren't writeable as I would
expect. Instead, they're only visible as read only. What am I
overlooking.
Underneath my config file.

error message in smbd.log file: bind failed on port 139 socket_addr = 0.0.0.0.
I can run nmbd successfully, but smbd dies almost immediately when I run
it, the smbd.log file has the message "bind failed on port 139
socket_addr = 0.0.0.0.". When I do a netstat -an | grep 139, it shows
that tcp is listening on port 139. How do I resolve this conflict
between tcp and smbd?

deployment of software
I have Samba and about 40 WinXP Clientes running.
Now I?m trying to find a way to deploy software (for example
updates of E-Mail Client, Windows Patches) to my Clients.
I was playing around with AutoIt and some "switch-user-tools" for
windows, which really works but also is kind of complicated and time
consuming.
In my environment, every user got his own Logonscript on the Linuxserver
