time server = yes
I want my XP clients to update their clocks from my samba server. I have time server = yes in smb.conf, and running ntpd on the server, but my clients aren't updating their clocks. I tried running the command manually logged in as a domain user: net time /setsntp:10.8.2.3 but it just says "System error 5 has occurred. Access is denied". Any ideas?

WINS querying (Advanced)
Hi all... I need to make a few queries to WINS, but am unsure how to do so. 'nmblookup' will allow me to enter an IP address and get information about the machine name, domain, and username. I want to do the opposite...I would like to have a tool that will take a username and return the IP address. I know this information is stored in WINS somehow, and I am capable of writing some Perl

IPFW and SAMBA
What rule would I add to my firewall script in order to keep external requests for 137,138, and 139, but allow the samba server on the same machine, to allow requests from the internal network? I am using FreeBSD 4.4-RELEASE with ipfw and natd. -- === Sincerely, David Comeau

A question about [homes]
Hello everyone. I have a question concerning the [homes] directive. I've set it up and everything's working fine but there's just a slight little detail that bothers me, and that is that when I browse my samba server off a w2k/wXP client I have two shares (I only have [homes] in my config file as far as shares are concerned) in the root view. That is \\sambaserver\homes and

basic LDAP authentication to Samba share from existin g directory
We use pGINA (www.pgina.org) to authenticate windows user logins via ldaps:// against the university directory. NTP doesnt work for Win2000 clients + Samba 4.0.4 (see tcpdump)
Hi all, I am using Samba 4.0.4 as AD DC on my test environment and realized that all my W2k clients (default installation, no special setups made on the clients) cannot receive the correct time of my samba 4.0.4 AD domain controller. Windows XP and 7 work fine though. The problem occurs at three W2k test clients I tried with. The default behavior of Windows clients is to use the update type

Samba 3.0.24 + OpenLDAP
I'm using the above version of Samba with OpenLDAP. I also use the smbldap-useradd script to add users, like below. I'm finding that I also have to have an account in /etc/passwd for the user to get in otherwise I get the message below. I thought that the ldapsam:ldap://localhost/ would not require the /etc/passwd entry. What did I miss? # Adding a User (doesn't work)

push, pull confusion.
I've been using rsync to back-up user files on samba shares. The idea was to capture the file changes from day to day work, back all changes and new files to a server with limited access. If someone wanted to delete the files, there would be a back-up of their work. While checking logs the other day, I noticed that on the files on the "backup server" where only a partial list
