I will show here some commands output to secure that all configuration is

smblib/auth
I need to do an smb auth in an application I'm writing.
I've looked at the source in smblib/*.c but I'm unsure
which library and which function call I should link against.
I'm looking for something like this
$result = smb_auth($user,$pass,$pdc);
so that I can check if a user/pass combination is a valid
username/password on the windows network.
What library, and what function

I am really not sure if this is a samba problem or what, but is starting
to annoy me. Here is what is happening.
Server 1: Squid,squidguard,dansguardian,iptables (This is firewall/filter)
Server2: Samba (used for file storage and squid authentification)
Clients are Windows 98. A few XP's.
Everything has run fine for almost 2 years. The other day when trying

I'm still having problems with winbind:
wbinfo -u --> Error looking up domain users
So I read a post about wbinfo -a, I tried it but I still can't get the domain's user list because the pdc doesn't allow plaintext passwords:
wbinfo -a user%passwd
plaintext password authentication failed
error code was NT_STATUS_INVALID_PARAMETER (0xc000000d)

Hiding some stuff
Hi,
Is there a way i could hide "netlogon", "profiles", "homes", etc., from my
windows 2000 users ?
Will "hide files" solves the issue, or is there another way ?
Any help would be appreciated.
Warm Regards,

cannot change user password with CTRL-ALT-DEL
I've been running samba (currently 2.2.3a-13 for Debian) as a PDC with W2k
clients for over two years. The system was up and running quite well for a
long time. A couple of days ago, I installed the following MS-patches:
MS04-011
MS04-012
MS04-013
MS04-014
MS02-011
Now when users try to change their password from the w2k clients using
CTRL-ALT-DEL, a popup window appears saying:

failed creating protocol instance to play queued url
I run thunderbird (both 3.x and 5.x) against dovecot 2.x and frequently
see delays "loading message". I admit to having a very large mailbox and
running multiple imap clients.
I've turned on thunderbird debugging, and at least one pattern I see in
the log during the delays (maybe a minute long) is the failed protocol
message above. These are no the only delays, but are the ones

memdisk - grub2
I've been trying to use memdisk with grub2 to boot some iso images -( I've done this without any
problem with pxe )
There is a memdisk.mod in /boot/grub/ and I've seen some material talking about this, but no example
of a menu.
After trying countless permutations - Right now I have :

Problems resolving most users with winbind and AD/SFU (Resolved?)
Problem solved. Sort-of. I just don't know why the solution works.
Here's what I found...
First, I tried updating SFU 3.5 with the following hotfixes: 913030,
886655, 887531, 932143, 883520, 894186, 931930, 892561, 896428,
888993, 932143, and 939778. No change.
Second, I used ADSI Edit from the Win2k support tools to compare

the field ttl in struct referral doesn't work
In samba source code, the file "source\include\msdfs.h" defines a struct named referral. In this struct, there is a field named ttl which is used to decide how long should client cache referral, and this field uses constant REFERRAL_TTL(#define REFERRAL_TTL 600) as default. My problem is when i set REFERRAL_TTL to be 10, it doesn't work.
