Silly question??
Ok, so this may be silly question, but I can't find the answer anywhere I've looked. I have Samba up and running. I have manually added users and all are working great. My question is simple, whats the easiest way to add users? If they exist inthe /etc/passwd file, I suppose that running "smbpasswd -a username" is the best option to add the user... Can this be done via any

using "@group_name" in smb.conf
Hi all, I need to give a group of users access to a file share that I am sharing via samba. In smb.conf I am using something similar to; [accts] comment = Accounts Dept Share path = /usr/local/share/accounts valid users = @accounts public = no writable = yes printable = no create mask = 0765 The valid users line says who can access this share: "@accounts". IAX2 * -> * handoff
Hey All, I am setting up a network of Asterisk servers using IAX2. I am wondering if it is possible to disable the handoff feature? At the moment I have 4 asterisk machines, 3 are at SOHO offices and 1 is centrally hosted in a data centre. In addition the central machine has an IAX2 link to a VOIP provider (and might be set up with more in the future). All calls are routed through that

Problem with roaming profiles (always synced but never read)
Hi, I come to find new ideas about a problem which is blocking me since many days.... I've an AD DC on Samba 4.1.11, and a file server (on Samba 4.1.11 too) member of the domain. Festival Installation - Asterisk 1.0-RC2 && Debian Woody
Hey All, Thought I'd take a bash at trying to get Festival to work here on my lab system with the aim of using it to create our IVR menu prompts. I've spent most of the afternoon searching through the Wiki, the Festival website and Google and I've got a couple of questions. First one is that the 'Asterisk+festival+installation' page on the Wiki mentions the RedHat 9 RPMs

using smbadduser non-interactively
Hello All, Could someone please tell me if there is a was to use smbadduser in a non-interactive mode and just allow you to enter all of the particular user information on the command line? I need to set up a small script that will automate adding users to the smbpasswd file so that they can login. Cheers, Lonnie -- Lonnie Cumberland OutStep Technologies Incorporated EMAIL:

Creating Samba users?
I am a new Samba user - I just installed on Solaris 8 and (finally) got smbd and nmbd running. Now how do you create a user in Samba? The documentation provides tons of information about smbadduser and smbpasswd except *how to use it.* Any help is greatly appreciated. For example, how to I create a Samba "root" user if I am the Unix "root" user? Thanks -- JW

Adding machine names
I'm having some trouble adding machine names to Samba. I've added a user under linux for the machines that I need and they have a $ entry at the end of them. I've also added a user entry for each computer with smbadduser, all to no avail. Does anyone out there know of a good source of reference material on this subject? Thanks, James

New trick for old dogs
We have been using Samba for many years. The company has just switched from an NT domain to an Active Directory domain. The new server is running Windows Server 2003. We are having trouble configuring our Solaris 8 server so it can join the domain as a server. Just getting Samba to compile and link was interesting enough. This included downloading and compiling a new version of the BerkeleyDB,

Logwatch - malformed password entry(uid not number)
Hi All, I've the following in the logs and am wondering why they are there. I also keep getting emails from SAMBA log-deamon (or something like that). [2003/05/19 15:24:29, 0] passdb/pdb_smbpasswd.c:getsmbfilepwent(364) getsmbfilepwent: malformed password entry (uid not number) It's not really serious (at least to me) but it's a cause for concern.
