2.4.8
Any idea of a timeframe for a 2.4.8 ext3 patch release? I tried patching
the 2.4.8 tree from ext3 CVS, but the kernel source files didn't end up
nice enough to successfully compile.

Is anyone using Ext3 on 2.4.x and software raid 5?
Is anyone using Ext3 on a 2.4.x kernel with software raid5? Does it
work correctly? Last I checked noone had tried it yet, but that was
before I went away on vacation.

Ok, Im an idiot. Can't remount the ext3 filesystem because I deleted the /.jounral file...
Hello everyone,
Ok, I admit it - I'm an idiot. But it seemed the right thing to do at
the time.... I'm running RH 6.2 with a 2.2.19ext3 (ext3 0.0.7).
I wanted to try out the new 2.4 kernel line, so I upgraded modutils, gcc
and few other things.. Compiled the kernel (did NOT patch it to ext3)
and installed it and rebooted. Well, it didn't understand ext3 fs.. Ok...

Delete dead browse lists
I've run into this problem a few times now and still haven't figured out how to fix it without shutting down my entire network.
We get a lot of guest and transient computers belonging to different workgroups.
The gleefully add themselves to the SAMBA domain master and the SAMBA master browse never gets rid of them.
Isn't there some sort of timeout or interface where these can be

EXT3 Worries
Dear Sir or Ma'am:
I am interested to think about implementing EXT3 onto my servers here.
However, I have some concerns and am hoping someone can address them.
1) If I install ext3 what is the likelihood that the extent of damage caused
by its bugs will be limited to just the fact that the journals may not work
properly? Alternatively, do I risk real damage to files and the filesystem

To the server from the local disk 7 mins 38 seconds
Copying from and two the samba server from nt/win2k clients is okay, I
didn't get a chance to get figures for this :/
I saw a post similar to this suggesting that it was a NIC problem and
that it was in full duplex mode? Im not sure I could check this on a dos
client. any suggestions?

Daylight savings
I'm running 2.2.6
When daylight savings time changed this weekend I had to reset all samba sessions as the sessions didn't pick up the time change.
Copying file from a Windows client to the server made the filetime off by one hour.
Killing all the same sessions (also restarted smbd -- not sure if that was needed) fixed the problem.

I have a Solaris samba 2.0.0 box (zirconium) trying to join a workgroup.
But, the samba WINS server (medusa) complains:

multiple ldap servers
Hello,
I was looking at the ldap authentication code (in 2.2.5) and it looks
like there is no support for having multiple ldap servers for
authentication (ie, if one is not responding, try from a backup). Does
anyone have a patch to add this functionality? If not, I'll go ahead
and do it but I wanted to check to see if it has already been done first.
Thanks,

Difference between smbstatus and WINS (was WINS querying (Advance d))
Unfortunately, it appears smbstatus will only show the clients that have
accessed the shares since the last restart of the smb daemon (not a
guarantee that people will do this in our case). There appears to be a
timeout of this information as well.
WINS does keep all this information based on when the client's machine first
logs into the network, so it's a lot more accurate.

4.4.4-26 with XSA-226, 227, 230 in centos-virt-testing
Xen 4.4.4 along with kernel 4.9.44 containing patches for XSAs (226 -
230) from August 15th are now available in centos-virt-testing. If
possible, please test and provide feedback here so we can move these to
release soon.
XSA-228 did not affect Xen 4.4
XSA-229 only applies to the kernel
XSA-235 disclosed today only affects ARM and isn't going to be added to
these packages.
Thanks.

Check out the logs -- this is a completely different problem. Ed and I have
been working on this for some time now, and while your solution wards off
potential future problems, it doesn't fix the current problem.

I'm in the process of trying to track down the cause of frequent Delayed

Logging in taking too long with roaming profile
Hello,
I am trying to setup a network of 5 XP computers with roaming profiles.
I've got a profile set up on the server and I can log on. The problem
is that the log in time takes about 10 mins and the log out takes just
as long. Here is a link to the log file from the samba server. I
have made comments on it to show what is happening on the terminal.

possible bug with incoming mail
I've been using Dovecot for a couple months now and am very impressed.
Thanks for a great package.
However, I have noticed a problem that I haven't been able to solve.
When a new message comes into my inbox, the last message that was
received is marked as new as well as the new one.
I originally thought this was a bug in my client (mutt) but I have
verified that the same thing

Roaming Profiles - delete profile when logging off
PDC : RedHat 7.2 // Samba 2.2.4 RedHat rpm
Clients : W2K SP1
Does anybody know how to get rid of the cached
local profiles when logging off? Since we use
FAT32 every user has access to other local replicated
profiles.
Furthermore sometimes the logon to the domain
doesn?t work the first time after logon after a cold start.
W2k claims it can not replicate/copy some files from
the users profile and
